According to Brandon Thurston, the Abadon match & Shida angle maintained over 1 mil viewers the whole time.

The problem with Baker as champ is that she's mediocre (at best) in the ring. With the roster/available guests there's a very limited number of face challengers who could carry her to a decent long PPV championship match. She knocks the character stuff out of the park, but I can see a 20 minute Baker/Swole match being (insert baseball metaphor for something bad here). I think Baker can at least be carried to a good match with the right opponent. Plus, it's easy to work around someone being limited in the ring. Britt being a heel who dodges challengers or cheats to win fits her perfectly. AEW's agents would need to work with what they have. Not EVERY match has to be a 20 minute sprint if you tell the story right. If you tell a great story and you can do it in 5 minutes, then you're doing a good job. I meam, that's what I'm saying. she can be carried, but you're looking at Shida, Serena and Thunder Rosa who can manage it on the face side... and that's it. Hirsch maybe. I can just imagine the reaction on this thread if Baker's first PPV defence goes 5 minutes, though.

My point is that it's best to tell the best story you can as efficiently as you can. If you're booking things and you say, "ok this needs to go 20 minutes", but you only have about 10 minutes worth of material, your story is going to suffer. The reverse is the same. But the point still stands, if those 5 minutes are really good, they will be more memorable than a 20 minute match that drags on too long.

I know she was just wearing a shirt and some workout pants. But Shida looked damn incredible this Wednesday.

I don't think she's as bad of an in-ring wrestler as some. She's shown a lot more I think since that match with Shida where she broke her nose. Not amazing by any stretch but not she wouldn't be the worst women's champ imo. I'd say she's about Alexa's skill level, more or less and her character stuff makes up for the rest. I think Baker's weaker performances had a number of contributing factors. Having a crisis of confidence like she did after the Bea Priestly-inflicted concussion can do a lot to make you look worse than you really are. I don't think it's coincidence that her in-ring performances since her heel turn have been far better.
Like she isn't going to be the equal of Shida or Riho in terms of in-ring work, but she can hold her own enough in the ring and especially on the mic to be a good champion. Far worse in-ring talent than her, both male and female, has held championship gold in other major promotions.

That's my thoughts as well. Booked well I think she could put on some decent championship matches.

Shida will be on DARK this week facing KiLynn King, one of five women's matches on the DARK Card
That should be really good. King's one of the most improved Young Lions of AEW, should be fun watching Shida work someone her size

I’ve never understood why Princesa Sugeiht and Faby Apache are the only Luchadoras to make the jump to the states so far, but that gotta change.
Hiedra, Shani, Big Miami, and Hades would make the women’s division way more fun.

If we manage to get impact and AAA talent in AEW that would be great.
Another 5 matches on Dark this week. 5 matches a week is the new normal now it seems since that's what we've been getting the last few weeks now. Things are definitely improving at a fast rate.
The only thing I would say is that I wish we got more midcard v midcard matches on Dark. Shida v King and Anna v Dani should be very good matches but the outcome is very predictable.

I'd say they're trying to make more roster depth before they start midcard vs midcard matchups. Also building up some of the girls records isn't a terrible idea either. So when a Dani Jordyn and a KiLynn King get more wins and don't have a bunch of losses, their matches will matter all the more.

I really think they're waiting for the second show to come so they can shine more of a light on the women. This is not, and has never been, good enough. I don't care if that second show was already signed for before AEW premiered. This is the kind of thing women have always been told, if they've been told anything at all, as to why they aren't being represented.

A second show wouldn't just be good for the women, it'd be good for everyone on he card. The women simply need more depth to even be showcased period, and thankfully they've been actively pushing towards it since Full Gear ended. I'm glad Khan has openly regretted the initial booking before then and has made it a point to get multiple storylines going and Shida on TV every week

They are doing better. I just don't want that shit going too easily excused.

I watched the most recent Dynamite, and while I thought the show was good, I didn't see how in two hours they couldn't fit more than a 5 minute squash and a couple backstage segments for the women. Meanwhile on the other channel(I skipped Dynamite's main event) I see an awesome women's main event going on on NXT. I'm not expecting AEW to just suddenly be able to have the women's division main eventing the shows like NXT does, but they could at least do a little more to invest in the division imo. Waiting for a second show to premiere feels like a copout.

I can’t believe this thread is almost 6 months old, then again I feel like time just floats randomly now.
Seriously though, they have some great talent but they need to actually DO the work. It’s so frustrating because it just feels like this whole time they only have a women’s division because they’re worried they’ll be labeled as sexist kinda like how it feels with ROH.
