I hope they don’t go all Family Guy/Seltzerberg and fill the show with overused pop culture references. I mean, the original show had a lot of pop culture references so it’d be weird if it wasn’t.

Yes, but just don't Flanderise that element of the show. As for the other matter...it's like SNL and other variety shows. It feels like they're doubling down NOW, but they always did that. EDIT: yep, aside from vague sketches, it's all Warners/P&TB.

It's very odd to see just Yakko, Wakko, Dot, Pinky and the Brain getting the focus. Makes you wonder how much of the old cast of characters will even be back. Even that group shot (with Yogi Bear and a few of the HB gang) didn't feature any established Animaniacs alum. I hope they don’t go all Family Guy/Seltzerberg and fill the show with overused pop culture references. I feel like the premise (or presumed premise) that "they have a lot of catch up on" could work in their favor for that. Lets them get away with a lot of first, and hopefully as the 13 go on it calms down (heh, the Warners "calming down", lol).

Rita and Runt, Buttons and Mindy, Goodfeathers, Katie Kaboom, Hip Hippos, Hello Nurse, Slappy and Skippy (I believe) are not returning. Seems like Chicken Boo won't be back either.

But it’d also be like saying “I hope new Looney Tunes shorts don’t have modern references” when it’s like...they had a whole short of Hollywood caricatures of the time so, well, too late?

Oh lordy, Yakko's gonna say HELLOOOOOOOOOOOO NURSE and then get admonished for it, isn't he? It's very odd to see just Yakko, Wakko, Dot, Pinky and the Brain getting the focus. I knew a few of them weren't coming back, and looking at the list I get why (kids put in harm, '90s things that are too antiquated, fat shaming, ditzy hot chick not a good sterotype for women) but none of those folks? Very surprised and disappointed by no Slappy and Skippy. Then again Slappy was voiced by Sherri Stoner, a writer/producer who evidently did not return so I guess I get that. Ralph the security guard is mentioned in the Hulu synopses linked above, which I presume means Frank Welker is onboard......which hopefully means Thaddeus Plotz (prolly not WB CEO anymore) is back somehow too.

The mime's returning at least (he's briefly in the trailer)

Say what you will about the absence of several prominent characters, but going by the trailer, the show's humor hasn't lost a step. Really looking forward to this.

I feel like we’re jumping the gun a bit about whose retuning and who isn’t. The show’s not out for another month so they probably want to have a few more promos here and there.
Not to say it will but it’s weird to make conclusions from it.

What's the silver lining? No Hip Hippos.

Yeah it was definitely said (earlier in this thread?) that Mindy/Buttons was gone because she was always in harms way and Katie Kaboom was gone because of the "overreacting girl" stereotype. Hello Nurse was a hot chick Yakko & Wacko cat-called......can't have that no more. And the Hippos were pretty much sketches full of fat jokes. *sigh* I still want this to work. Maybe just focusing on those 5 (and some new folks) catching up and finding humor in the changing times/trends (but not actual people) is the safest idea.

I fixed part of your reply ;-) Well at least Kaboom wasn't cancelled because explosions = TERRORISTS.

Maybe the 2 recurring bits I remembered least were Katie Kaboom (had to look her up to even remember) and the hippos (never cared, never liked those sketches, not sad they're not returning).

Only things I remember about Katie Kaboom were... 1) Her appearance in Animaniacs Stew. 2) Her parents asking if she was going out with Mike or Joel.
