Existential crisis when turning 30.

Why is this such an issue for some people? For some reason, I saw a meme on Facebook (I question why I sometimes still go on there when people are too damn political on there, but I also want to check in on people at times) that talks about how the age of 30 is creeping up on 1990s babies. I understand that people don't like the idea of getting older, but because I am turning 34 very soon, like in two days, I remember four years ago when I turned 30 and not feeling like it was anything bad.

Some people say that the teens and 20s are the times when you're "young and full of energy" and "the time to make mistakes in life." Is it this perception that when you turn 30, you're supposed to settle down and all that? I didn't go through anything like that. Granted, I tell myself sometimes that I need to grow up at times, but you have seen people in their 30s go and party at bars, because partying isn't just for people in their 20s.

Did anybody go through this existential crisis when turning 30? Because I personally didn't, though that isn't to say that I don't ponder that other people in my age group are in much different places in life than I am.

27-33 was a f***ing blast. Old enough to know what I was after and established enough career wise to have some money to enjoy life.

34 now and 2020 being 2020 things have obviously taken a downturn, but im optimistic good days will be here again eventually.

Which is to say no, people should not have an existential crisis at 30.

I'm turning 30 in November and I honestly don't know how I'm going to feel about it when it happens. I would not call it a crisis, but It's not really something I'm looking forward to.

Not me. I feel my personal life has only gotten better and better since I turned 30. Started a career, started dating a lot (had maybe 4 dates throughout my 20s if that), got my forever home, adopted 2 precious cats, relationships with my mom and sister have never been better, made friends I actually identify with and was able to cut all my old toxic-ass high school friends for good. Yup, life has been pretty great for me since I turned 30.

30 didn't bother me much. I just turned 33 and at one point I forgot how old I was and thought I was about to turn 34 and that freaked me out a bit, though.

Not me. Hell, I usually don't even realize that I am 45. I've never given a crap about my age. Why should I? Does it really matter for most things? I never thought so.

Milestone ages didn't give me an existential crisis. It was the realization my son is turning the same age as I was when I became a teenaged father that freaked me the hell out. I'm glad to have him, but I don't want him going through what I did at his age, he's still my little boy damnit!

I had an existential crisis about it, but I have one about every aspect of my life, in perpetuity.

My best "fun" year was when I was 31, so you never know.

In all fairness, who isn't having a crisis right now? Im afraid to be any age the way things are going. You go on facebook for 5 minutes and it feels like the world is ending.

I felt like a total failure at 29 , no degree, career completely stalled , no money . But then at age 31 things turned for the better, I got my dream job and am significantly more content now at age 34. Not everyone peaks in their 20’s , and thats the issue most people have with turning 30- they think they should have accomplished certain by that age.

I was okay with it - I’d have liked to have done a few more things by the time I hit it (I’m 45 now) but I had no problem with it, or 40 either. To be honest, I’d have been more concerned if I was still doing the same things at thirty as I was at 18. You can still dick about at thirty, but maybe just more responsibly!

I'll admit that when I was in my 20's I was worried about turning 30.

Oddly enough now that I'm in my 30's and quickly approaching the side that's closer to 40.. It's not really bothering quite as much.

I'm 32 now, and I'll be honest, I dreaded 30. It was that reminder that I'm no longer "young" in the most traditional sense of the word and that my body is going to start slowing down a bit.

People have a tendency to feel invincible in their 20s, and their reality comes to a screeching halt in their 30s when they realize they can't be immune to bad lifestyle or diet choices forever. For example, for a lot of people, that I've noticed anyway, you could pig out on all the shitty, greasy, fatty, unhealthy foods you wanted in your 20s and you'd barely gain a pound. When you hit your early 30s, your metabolism starts to slow down, and you're going to start racking up the pounds if you continue that lifestyle. I've probably put on somewhere in the ballpark of about 50 pounds in recent years. Primarily because the eating habits I had in my early-to-mid-20s don't work as well with a 30+-year-old body.

Wait until 40! I was freshly divorced, and fresh off a mental breakdown when I hit the big 4-0. THAT was a crisis!

Didn't bother me. Even the idea of turning 40 next year doesn't really bother me, since most people don't believe I'm any older than mid-to-late 20s.

I do feel like the clock is ticking somewhat since I'm not really any closer to being in a career I want and those opportunities tend to be harder to come by the older you get.
