I saw that. So weird. How did the Rock thwart em.

At a certain level I do feel for Levi. First I love his passion for the job. Second…if you go back to the start of this he’s told they got mega star The Rock to play his nemesis…and then he watches Rock politic his way out of being the villain of his franchise which fundamentally changes, and lessons, his own franchise. Then the guy won’t even throw a stinger on his vanity project to promote and create synergy with the damn thing. There’s another video of Levi going off about Rock’s not wanting to lose movie fights or look weak…just repeating “ it’s fake! What is wrong with you! It’s not real!”
Feels like a guy who really appreciated the thing he had…and watches someone undermine it at every turn and now both of them are dead in the water.

Dwayne Johnson's weird-ass tonal shift regarding Black Adam and its success (lack thereof) kinda leads credence to those saying he's become a difficult ass to work with.
Why a guy who built his career off winning and sometimes losing fake fights is such a mark for himself, I'll never understand.
If he wants to play Black Adam as a cool badass anti-hero, that's fine. You still have to lose sometimes. The Punisher is arguably THE cool badass anti-hero, and Captain America beats his ass like he owes him money any time they interact.

He only wanted to lose to Superman... Which great maybe play braniac or someone then and not someone else's arch nemesis Like, Black Adam only started to really work as an anti-hero in the comics after decades of being the Marvels' arch-nemesis and personal character development. Dwayne wanted to speed run that shit instead of building it up. And the studio let him because they've done it for like, literally everything else in this DCEU because of how insecure they were about "catching up" to Marvel instead of going at their own pace.
Because of that, now they end up needing to reboot and start up all over again. Their wanting to catch up to the MCU ironically put them far further behind Disney and Marvel. Even at a time where the MCU cash factory seems to be cooling off a bit.

Lost in amongst all of this is Rock agreeing to let whichever characters that were going to show up in Shazam 2 happen wasn’t going to make a huge impact on the box office anyway.

I still don't get how or why they gave the Rock the clout on who could cameo where anyway.

I still don't get how or why they gave the Rock the clout on who could cameo where anyway. Exactly. Levi and WB can throw all the shade at the Rock that they want but he didn't give himself this power. It's still just another dumb decision by the studio. Don't give an actor/his production studio the power to keep the characters you own out of other movies.

Right?
"You can't use the JSA here."
"Yeah we can, you aren't even in this movie" haha

Right? "You can't use the JSA here." "Yeah we can, you aren't even in this movie" haha To be fair WB is infamous for tripping over their own dick when it comes to letting their own damn properties using certain characters. Like the totally headass thing of being extra strict on using certain Batman characters in the cartoons because they were “saving” them for the live action movies. Edit: And it is/was even worse for the live action shows because at the time they basically couldn’t use *anyone* tied to Batman. Even remotely tertiary characters to the Bat-World like Deathstroke(he’s fought Batman directly before and is Robin’s main foe via the Teen Titans, so he’s in the Bat-Orbit) managing to pry themselves free to be used in the CW shows was seen as a huge deal during this era.

Zack Snyder is told no by the studio? Shoots the cameo in his damn driveway.
Studio is told no by one (1) actor? "Will Harcourt and Economos do?"
I really can't express enough how NO ONE looks good in this. The studio looks chump, Rock looks like a prima donna, and Zachary Levi is just going out sad.

I love checking on this thread cause it always gets worse somehow. Shazam himself having a breakdown on IG Live is so f***ing absurd.

Shazam 2 is making Black Adam look like a success.

Shazam 2 is making Black Adam look like a success. Black Adam honestly got saved by mere weeks. Had it come out after Gunn’s Gods and Monsters slate roll out and people realized it also wasn’t going to go anywhere, it would have likely done similarly bad.

Black Adam might end up a bigger flop if only because of how much bigger a budget it had than either Shazam movie.

Black Adam might end up a bigger flop if only because of how much bigger a budget it had than either Shazam movie. And they were hoping Black Adam would kickstart the DCEU after some misses. That didn't happen. I liked Fury of the Gods, I thought it was fun. The box office was definitely not helped by WB basically saying "This movie means nothing going forward, Shazam doesn't factor into any plans."
