I thought the Rumble was a decent showcase for Ali if only for the moment when he was directing traffic in everyone beating the shit out of Edge. That's a hell of a lot more of a spotlight than most midcarders get. Hell, it's more than guys like Jeff Hardy and Rey Mysterio got. Hardy being such an afterthought in this Rumble was so weird. Like he reportedly signed an extension and WWE went "Well he's not going to AEW, so now we can go right back to not giving a single f*** about him!"

See, I think what might have hindered Ali’s Rumble was Yim’s COVID diagnosis because from the build I was seeing, if that didn’t happen, I was pretty sure Retribution was going to run in, beat everyone up and dump out Xavier Woods and Big E to continue that stuff.

You say that like Ali wasn’t with them at TV. I mean, if the rest of the group had to self-isolate, he’d have had to as well and he’d have not have even been in the match to start with. And he’s in the most danger because he’s the only one in the group that doesn’t wear a mask.

Oh sure, but then I could just say he probably got a negative test on the day of the show and it was fine. I mean, that’s not praise of anything WWE’s doing, more just how this virus seems to work and how it seems like stuff can change on a dime.

So the Royal Rumble followup for Retribution is Mustafa Ali vs Xavier Woods
How does the great leader of Retribution follow up his Rumble? Losing clean as a sheet to Woods, DESPITE the fact his goons interfered, he basically lost TWICE, T-Bar stopped the initial pin and Ali got pinned anyway.
This group is the drizzling shits, I just feel bad for Ali at this point, pouring his soul into making this try and work and finding cool aethetics for backstage promos, but the onscreen gimmick and how they are booked, is straight up ass.
I can't believe this group is even still a thing at this point, I just don't get it, it feels like a punishment. Good on Mercedes Martinez for straight up bailing.

So for those wondering where MACE was tonight: but he was in the promo with the others on that high ledge screaming while Ali was doing his promo

I swear to god Dijakovic has lost not only 100 In Ring Skill Points but 100 IQ Points since becoming T-Bar and it's as sad as it can be hilarious sometimes...

Safe to say we can finally judge the book by the cover? Guy looks like the guy who’s works at the travelling fair and aspires to be the guy who keeps the helium balloons from flying away, but he just can’t get there.

Incidentally tomorrow will mark six months since Retribution's debut (the infamous power generator night) and other some decent Ali promos its maintained a status of being one of the lamest stables in WWE history. No titles won, virtually no PPV appearances (with no wins in the ones they did get) and possessing so little threat that two people (one of whom is injured) are in virtually no danger from them.
I want to retroactively apologize to every criticism I had of Aces & Eights because they're the Four Horsemen compared to these people.

Retribution is just the JOB Squad 2021 without the charm, fun or Al Snow.
They are just walking talking human buttplugs that are used as filler for a 3 hour TV show.
They are that extra slice of bread in the Big Mac that nobody really quite understands why they keep it there.

This faction feels forced doesn't it? Like am I the only one who feels like this? The concept is there but the direction is not---so you got this little group trying to make "change" and Ali is great but he comes off as some clueless leader with everything they try to do and I get it they want to make something from them but it just doesn't work.

Retribution has felt phony since day 1. From having its existence and intentions announced on WWE.com, to them getting contracts (and even drafted to Raw) to the pitiful disruptions of the show; its an anarchic faction as designed by clueless corporate execs. They're the heel wrestling stable equivalent to the chaotic teenager rebelling against his parents.. via moving into the family guest house.

Which is shown going back to the beginning of this thread. Ali being the leader could have salvaged it... but they need to let Retribution win literally anything instead of just being a pack of goobers. Literally everyone involved in this stable deserves better.

"Anarchic Faction designed by clueless corporate execs" is the perfect way to describe this and I'm sort of mad I didn't come up with it.

Ali: I'm going to win the Royal Rumble Match, and then I'm off to accept my Nobel Peace Prize. As for you, Slapjack, don't forget to come out and help me.
Slapjack: *sitting in the back watching Ali get eliminated* I'm the biggest idiot ever.
