Mountain Dew Is Apparently Releasing a Watermelon Flavor as a Permanent Soda

It seems like every season Mountain Dew is releasing a new flavor to match the time of year. Just look at the VooDew flavor for Halloween and Snap’d flavor for Christmas! This latest one doesn’t really go with the season it’s being unveiled in, but we’d drink Mountain Dew Major Melon any time.

As detailed in leaked materials on Reddit, the new Mountain Dew soda tastes like watermelon. It is expected to launch in January 2021 and will be a permanent flavor. Mountain Dew Major Melon has Super Bowl launch support, so there’s a chance that we’ll be seeing a commercial featuring the new soda during the Big Game.

Over Labor Day weekend, someone posted a picture on Reddit showing the watermelon-flavored Mountain Dew in a marketing survey. Is that confirmation that Major Melon is really happening? Well, maybe those survey results will help decide, but it’s certainly a step in the right direction.

As long as all goes according to plan, we won’t have to wait long to get the soda in our hands. Plus, it appears that it’ll also be coming in a Zero Sugar flavor, just like the original Zero Sugar that came out earlier this year. You’ll be able to get Major Melon in all core packs, including cans and bottles.

While we weren’t expecting to crack open a watermelon-flavored soda in the winter, there’s no stopping us from getting this Mountain Dew once it’s officially out.

PepsiCo’s Mountain Dew gave us plenty of summer-inspired sips this season, like Spark, Atomic Blue, and Southern Shock, so it’s only fair that they keep it going for fall, right? Last year, the brand came out with a VooDew soda that had a mystery flavor. If you guessed candy corn, you were right. Now you get to put your taste buds to the test again, because a new VooDew is on its way.

Rumors began circulating a few months back that Mountain Dew had a new VooDew coming out. We should have realized it ourselves, since the original had “2019” printed on the cans and bottles, so perhaps this is a yearly tradition in the making.

While last year’s VooDew was purple with yellow and orange detail, the 2020 version is red with yellow and green detail, as seen in Reddit/u/swagemp’s side-by-side photo. Just like last time, the soda has a milky white color, so it doesn’t give any clues to what the flavor could be.



Reddit/u/swagemp tried the 2020 VooDew and puts their guess in as marshmallow. Honestly, we wouldn’t be surprised, since there have been a seemingly endless about of marshmallow- and s’mores-flavored goodies out this year. But soda? We don’t know if that would be more of a trick or a treat.

As shown on the packaging, the spooky flavor is limited-edition, so it should be available before Halloween and last near the end of the year. Best Products has reached out to Mountain Dew on VooDew, so we’ll let you know when we know more. However, since the flavor wasn’t store-exclusive last year, we’re hoping that’ll be the case again, because we’re all going to need to get this easily.

I came into the thread thinking the same thing. That it was a Mountain Dew flavored watermelon instead of vice versa. Which, I'm not gonna lie, I'd try at least once.

Maui Blast (the pineapple one) is one of my fav soda flavors of all-time, so I'm excited for this one. We have Diet Code Red and Livewire locally, and from my understanding that is an uncommon thing, but since coronavirus I haven't seen either. I'm worried this will be hard to find, too. Still haven't found Voodoo...like, ever. Not even last year's.
