So much for Arizona turning a corner in thinking.
On what planet is throwing all the money at an injury-prone JJ Watt somehow the magical answer to fixing a shitty defense?

Watt is one of the best defensive players in the sport, sure he's on the back 9 of his career but he's still a smart player who will help take pressure off of Jones and he's a great locker room guy he's a natural leader. Like look at his career imagine the #s if he didn't have that stretch of injuries, he's like the Griffy of the NFL an all time great who should have been one of the best there was at what they do but injuries slowed down the production.

Watt played an entire season last year and was sub mediocre. It’s likely he’s done. If dropping $21 mil guaranteed is worth a good locker room guy and a smart guy with no motor any longer than some guys who can actually still perform are going to make bank.

He graded as the number 9 edge rusher via PFF. Just because he didn’t put up counting stats and isn’t the one man wrecking crew he was in his prime doesn’t mean he’s washed.

Yeah, Watt is not the All-Pro, one-man tackling machine he was in his prime, but he's still very good. Calling him "sub-mediocre" is objectively wrong.

He had fewer QB hits this year (16 games) than he did last season (8 games) He’s 51st in sacks, 28th in QB hits, had 2 forced fumbles. I don’t know what metric they used to determine #7 edge rusher but $21 mil guaranteed to a guy with those numbers is silly.

Rapidly declining, has had one good season in the past five, oft injured and overpaid ? Dude was putting up LT numbers early on, was amazing.

I don’t know what metric they used to determine #7 edge rusher but $21 mil guaranteed to a guy with those numbers is silly. PFF individually grades every player on every play, making their grading - especially for DLinemen - much more predictive than standard box score stats. Sacks, for example, only tells you the end result of, at most, twenty plays in a season. And they don’t tell you the extent to which that player actually “earned” the sack (did they immediately blow up a play and get to the QB right away, or was there great coverage and the QB tried running away from another defender and end up in the arms of the guy who got the sack?). And on the other side, there are going to be plays where a lineman does everything right, but gets nothing from it. Maybe they’re double teamed, or immediately get penetration, but the QB gets the ball away quickly. The lineman may have done everything right, but it doesn’t show up anywhere. PFF’s grading is meant to isolate each individual player and say, “What did this guy actually do on this play?”

I think that Watt wIll be reinvigorated out of Houston. I don’t expect him to dominate or anything but I fully expect him to be a solid addition to the Cards defense and make some plays.
Getting away from the burning trash barrel that is the Texans can only be good for him.

what are they smoking and drinking? Jerry had plenty to throw around after his energy company had mega profit taking advantage of Texans during the that crazy cold snap. He can easily find a way to slip Dak something under the table, not like Goodell will stand up to him. Yeah, I was wondering if any Cowboys fans were going to turn on Jerry for that colossal dick move.

Big Ben signs new deal to stay with Pittsburgh Tho it isn't a surprise, they should probably still try to get a QB Darnold fits there to sit for a year and they could put him in to see what he can do on his 5th year option if anything or they can draft one Doubt they stick with Mason Rudolph as the future behind Ben

It’d certainly make sense for them to still take a shot on someone in the mid-rounds of the draft, but Darnold seems unlikely this year.

Big Ben is done, but I'm really glad he isn't wearing another uniform. Colts fan here, and its funny cause im not a BIG BEN fan, but dude had 33 TDS and what 10 picks last year? He is nowhere worth what he was gonna make originally, but itll be interesting to see the terms. I see maybe 22-25 million a year. maybe a 2 year deal. If 33TDS is done, then about 15 NFL teams would kill to have a QB with his numbers

He deferred $15 mill which he will get paid over 2 years if I read it correctly

Todd McShay is also having us taking Justin Fields. If we trade up for this (as McShay has us doing) and take an Ohio State QB (because when have those EVER worked out in the pros), I'm going to be extremely furious

Problem is with that is that Haskins pretty much sucks and has zero work ethic.
