For a long time I've wanted to watch the entire trilogy in one sitting and tomorrow is the day.
Nine straight hours off Middle Earth fun.
I've only seen the two first twice and the final film once so it's not like I'm one one the nerds who practically live for this.
I'm really looking forward to it.
Anyone else done this?
Now if only I could come up with some nice snacks for this little event (cutting out candy and eating healthy sucks) I was thinking some vegetarian taco, we'll see.
I'm watching the cinema version of the films. I'm saving the extended cuts for another time.

How about the first two movies...and not bother with the third movie?
Seriously, the major league problems and suckness of KING KING, damn we were warned about it! Just watch RETURN OF THE KING.
Still, the marathon idea rocks. Hope you have good fun and snacks for it.
FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING (2001) - **** THE TWO TOWERS (2002) - ***1/2 RETURN OF THE KING (2003) - ***

Try this: Watch all the Extended Editions and then watch them all again four times with the commentary on (4 separate tracks for each film). And then watch all the documentaries that come with the extended editions.
Do that and you will finish around late 2008.

I've done the extended versions with a friend. I swear it went from dark to light to dark again.

Yeah, and by the end of that epic marathon, you'll want nothing more to do with hairy midgets!

I have the special edition trilogy, and tried to set up a day with my friends to watch the whole thing. They had said that they wanted to, but they dragged their heels and we couldn't get a day set.
So I sat through them one day myself. Sure, it was a long day, but it was enjoyable.

OK quick Question.
Who does HHH look like more; Boromir? or that Mud Covered Orc in the first film?

LOTR marathon? Wax me. Each individual movie feels like a marathon in and of itself. Somewhere into hour two of solid movie watching I begin to get a little ancy. The films are well done but I couldn't sit through one without a break if my very life depended on it.

I did it with a couple of friends about a year ago.
Good Lord, it was hard going.

I did the extended version marathon once when I had one of those "so sick I'm hallucinating" flus...it was very disorienting.

So noone wanted to watch "Grindhouse" cause it was 3 hours, but will watch Lord Of The Rings, which was long enough by itself, but all of them together? I knew that was a bullshit excuse that theater goers made up

Good luck, man! I really enjoyed the Fellowship of the Ring (at the theater), the Two Towers was dragging a bit at times but was ok, the Return of the King left me a bit "meh", but maybe it was just because it took two years to finally watch the end of the saga (not a smart decision IMO). I don't think I'd ever make it through a LotR marathon... or to any marathon for that matter. I tend to get bored and distracted rather easily, so long sessions (of whatever entertaining form) aren't my cup of tea.

I've been to a Lord of the Rings marathon before. People from school hosted such an event two years ago. Only the extended editions. Very fun, especially with a group of friends. Started around 10-11 in the morning, ended around 10 at night.
We had snacks in between the movies. Pizza works wonders, but your tastes may vary.
