'I, a wrestling announcer, dislike that my boss, a wrestling promoter, is getting live, in-the-moment feedback about something from the audience. I thought our industry was about more than that.' I know I'm supposed to think the "tagging your boss" stuff is lame, but in practice, is it really that different from live audience fans chanting "Fire Russo"? We know who that message is for, and it ain't the guys in the ring.

I know I'm supposed to think the "tagging your boss" stuff is lame, but in practice, is it really that different from live audience fans chanting "Fire Russo"? We know who that message is for, and it ain't the guys in the ring. I once met Dixie Carter at a show and she was very nice, and then chanted Fire Russo and she spotted me in the crowd and she looked upset, and I felt bad. I will say this, Vince Russo is 50 times worse then Jim Ross' occasional bad comments. I think it is a douchey move to tag Tony Khan. Just say it to Jim Ross, or you can even compain to Khan about him, but to tag both of them just feels like a d$&k move. But then again, that's the internrt in a nutshell.

I'll say it before and I'll say it again:
When JR is on, he's ON. When he feels like caring, he's still the best in the business. For example, I think he added a lot to the Best Friends/PnP parking lot brawl.
The problem is that he's either incapable, or flat out won't, play nice with things that are beyond his scope of what he sees wrestling as. If something isn't his cup of tea, he'll passive-aggressively mock the whole thing and it really makes the product look bad.
Perhaps it's just where JR can't keep up with the modern and fast-paced style of AEW, but that's when you shut up, lay back, and let Excalibur take the call.

To be honest, if I was Tony Khan, I wouldn't pay any attention to Twitter feedback, anyway. I mean, it's the hottest of hot-takes, trolls, Anti-AEW guys and one handsome stranger who tweets "Fire Lance Archer!" at him 150 times a day. (That one guy though, he's pretty neat.)

It’s a consumer letting the person in charge of the product he’s watching that he is unhappy with an aspect of it
I always feel that these bits from grillin JR come off worse in writing than they do when I listen to them but at the same time JR, unless the guy is out and out being a troll you need to be less thin skinned
And also less of a horn dog

After listening to it, he was pretty calm during his rant. The lack of passion comment is what really got to him; he talked about how wrestling is his life now ever since Jan passed. He also talked about a three-to-four man booth having to find a good rhythm and how it’s difficult but he feels like they’re doing a good job.

Maybe I'm soft or something but having listened to the podcast and understanding the importance of this AEW gig to JR I really can't abide this kind of behaviour from the twitter troll, it lacks any kind of empathy or understanding on a human level to me.
It wasn't constructive criticism which is absolutely fine and which JR is not and should not be above, particularly as it relates to some of the women's wrestling commentary. That's not what this was, it was yet another example of the worst of twitter which I personally have no time for.
If I had worked hard at something I deeply care about only to have some random person tell my boss durectly that I need to be fired I'd find ot hard not to be at least a little upset to be honest.

- "By gawd King, s/he's broken in half!"
- "****ing him/her like a government mule"
- "Thank you for inviting us into your home"
- "What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander"
- "Bowling shoe ugly"
- "It would appear a foreign object has entered the ring"

I can't excuse a lot of the perviness (Seriously, Jim, I know you're lonely, but chill), but I do think a lot of it is just due to JR trying to take on more than he can handle as a PbP. I'm not saying to rest on your laurels, or anything, but your Jim f'n Ross. Your voice alone adds something to the product. It's okay that you don't know the name of every move - that's what Excalibur is for. It's like Jim still wants to prove that he has it, when I honestly don't think ever lost it. Maybe he's slowed down a bit, and yes, the product has changed, but he's still able to bring so much to the table, especially when you need that big, emotional call to sell the drama. In short, things would be a lot better if he would take the main call in things that are his wheel house, and let Excalibur handle the more Frankly, if there's anyone who I wish would chime in more on commentary, it's Schiavone.

While the "you should be dead" thing is uncalled for, you know those wrestling fans with 40 followers on Twitter, Jim? They're you're audience. Much as it might pain you, your job is to entertain them and not give them reason to complain.

He was awful on dynamite this week, constantly tripping the other announcers over and making references that only made sense to him.
Just make him a backstage interviewer already, he has tremendous value in that roll more so than as an announcer.

I don't hate JR, but at this point I really wonder how a Tony, Excalibur, and Veda Scott team would sound together.

I still think JR adds a lot to the commentary team. No reason to get rid of him or demote him just yet.

I don't hate JR, but at this point I really wonder how a Tony, Excalibur, and Veda Scott team would sound together. It would be excellent. My ideal booth would be Excalibur on PBP, Jericho on color and Tony playing the role he does now, but until Jericho stops being an active in-ring competitor it should be Excalibur, Veda & Tony. J.R is just not right for this role and for what the company is trying to present. Yeah he can still turn it 'on' now and again but quite frankly that isn't good enough- the bad calls outweigh the good calls about 4 to 1

She was getting it on DARK before they went with Ricky Starks getting the commentary nod the last month. Which is not what I was expecting, but the dudes surprisingly good at wrestling a match and then going right to commentary to talk.

Veda and Taz bickering each other will be worse than whatever JR does, judging by the average fan reaction on the internet.

Don't mess with the Excalibur and Taz team for Dark, I love their "two friends calling the action and busting each others balls" dynamic. I think Veda is too earnest to fit in with that, she needed to give Taz shit back, she didn't and it was very awkward. It came off as Taz bullying Veda, which I'm sure Taz wasn't intending.
