Season 11 is much more interesting than I'd have first guessed going in. I'd say it has the biggest status quo changes of any of the seasons I've seen so far. Apu has his kids, Maude dies, Barney gets sober.

Well. I've finished season 10 and can say for sure the Golden times are behind me. The show is still way more hit than miss, but I have noticed the times I've just busted out laughing hard are getting less and less frequent. I just started season 11, the first episode guest starring Mel Gibson and it is kind of crazy to see people just fawning all over him considering what his career is like today. EDIT: To be totally fair, Mel Gibson is actually pretty funny in this episode. His delivery is really good and he fits into the show really well. He does a lot better than Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger did in their episode. Fun fact, Gibson asked them how they knew he’d take a leak in the alley at movies. They didn’t. He explained at movie premieres he didn’t like going into the washroom, because then he’d be trapped in a room, if someone wanted to approach him. So he really would duck out into the alley to take a leak.

I think 22-23 is the low point. I really enjoyed seasons 24-28. Thought 29 was down. Enjoyed last season and 32 so far. Character voices are getting rough though I catch it here and there and knew Julie Kavner's voice had been suffering for awhile but caught the season premiere a few weeks back and Yeardley Smith is starting to go as well. Well It not that shocking that Julie Kavner’s voice is struggling given that she in her late sixties and that voice for Marge, patty, and Selma which she does is a harsh sounding voice and she’s been doing it for over 30 years. Even the best singers in the world lose some of their power never mind voice actors. I’m surprised to hear about yeardley smith though as there’s little to no difference between her speaking voice and Lisa’s voice. Im rewatching the series and I’m up to series 7 and even though I’ve not seen many of these episodes in years it a testament to the genius of the show that I still laugh at the jokes.

Finished season 11 last night and yeah, Beyond the Laughter would have absolutely been the perfect ending for the show. While the season was a dip in quality, there were still some good episodes there as well as good character moments, for Homer especially. The genuine compassion he has for Ned after Maude dies is wonderful to see as is him stopping Barney from falling off the wagon when he got sober.
It is wild to think that I've watched 11 seasons of this show and I'm not even halfway through the series' run!

Ok, so the 8th episode of season 15, Marge versus Singles, Seniors, Childless Couples, And Teens and Gays has a Raffi spoof called Roofi and his songs just cause Maggie incredible happiness and Marge lets her listen to his songs day and night and seeing Bart, Lisa, and Homer go insane from hearing these ridiculous songs over and over was genuinely hilarious and made me crack up more than this show has for the last few seasons.
BTW, I was shocked to find out Raffi is still alive. Happy, because he seems to be a really good guy and does a lot of good things for kids, but I totally thought he died years and years and years ago.

I never really 'episodically' watched the Simpsons, being British it always seemed growing up that BBC2 (and later Channel 4) played pretty fast and loose with the episode order and/or had a pretty limited rotation of eps available. And didn't get Sky TV until about 2011, and by then, my appetite for new episodes was long gone.
Rewatching from the start on Disney+ has been a joy. That Season 3 run where you have Flaming Moe's, Burns Verkaufen der Kraftwerk and Homer at the Bat all within a few weeks really feels like the original step up into greatness.

There’s a Rudy Giulani joke in that episode that has not aged well at all, given what Rudy’s been up to these days.

I enjoyed the Simpsons up through even the seasons on the mid-20’s.
The wife and I watched a few episodes of the most recent season during quarantine and, yeah... All the joy was gone.

I've seen every episode, and I genuinely still enjoy the series. Not every single episode, and I can definitely see the flaws in later eps like everything reverting to status quo and the stories being cut back on. But there's still plenty of later episodes I enjoy. Though, tbh, my idea of earlier vs later is dependent on the intro/animation quality, so I have no idea what season is what number, outside of specific favourite episodes.

Ok, so I'm into season 19, I've watched just over 400 episodes plus the movie. I am currently watching E Pluribus Wiggum and it is giving me serious panic attacks. Springfield has a presidential primary coming up, and they reject the nominees and instead nominate Ralph Wiggum because he is a change from the status quo that they are so tired of. Despite being unqualified and obviously not a serious option, the media gives him tons of attention and thus credibility. So both parities try and get him over to their side, Lisa begs him to reject them, but Ralph says he's using them so he can, and I am dead seriously quoting this, "make this country great again." Ralph being Ralph means this as everyone being nice and using their words, but my God hearing those words blew my mind. This episode came out in 2007!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Simpsons's writers are either geniuses or they legit know something about our futures!!!!

So I am nearing the end of my journey here, I'm at season 25 right now and honestly, I am still enjoying the show more than I am not enjoying it. I think the character I am enjoying the most is Maggie amazingly enough. She's really funny and the show gets so much out of her with just expressions and gestures. I've started watching Marx Bros. movies the last few years and have a great appreciation for Harpo so maybe that's a factor, but I really enjoy Maggie.

I'm a huge fan of the golden era of the Simpsons, and while I've never done a marathon rewatch like this, but I have revisited a lot of episodes time and time again. And I loved how some got better with every view and I really started to flesh out what they were about. My favourite episode, Homer at the Bat went from being a funny story about a game of softball to a biting satire of the role of money in professional sports over the past three decades, and a story not just about the romance of a game like baseball, but about the unrealised dream almost every grown man in the world has to be a superstar athlete.
It sort of upsets me to see it descend into self-parody like I think it began to in the early 2000s, because the golden era was the cleverest, funniest, most relatable thing on television and worked on so many levels.

I've had a thing for the season 20 episode "Lost Verizon" for a while now. At first, it was because when I was very young, I used to fantasize about taking the family car and driving from home in the U.S. to the southern-most tip of South America. The in-episode accidental road-trip to Machu Picchu brought back that sense of wonder and fantasy. But recently, my dad, who used to always be home come afternoon, started a new romance and now doesn't come home until close to midnight. Between him being out, and my boyfriend often working closing shift, I'm alone at home a lot in the late evenings. I know it sounds silly for a grown adult to say, but, being alone so much, I get nervous and jumpy. Especially in the late evening. In other words, "Day is AWESOME! Night is scary"
