The drummer in Jellyfish, Andy Sturmer, was one of their two songwriters and the lead vocalist.
And while not the leader strictly speaking, Tommy Ramone produced quite a lot of the Ramones' mid/late seventies output.

You could argue that Neal Peart was... he was the guy who wrote most of the lyrics.

More metal guys (most of whom are also the lead or co-lead vocalist): King Fowley from Deceased Chris Reifert from Autopsy Nicke Andersson when he was in Entombed (aka the only good ones) John Haughm from Agalloch (first 2 albums only, though, and he always played rhythm guitars live from the beginning) Dave Gold from Woods of Ypres (mostly just the early albums though he did play drums on their last album as well) Flo Mournier from Cryptopsy Steve Asheim from Deicide (Glen Benton is the front man but Steve was always the main songwriter) James Read from Revenge Mike Browning from Nocturnus Hellhammer from Mayhem (mostly on account of being the only original member who is neither dead nor imprisoned) Jami Morgan from Code Orange (though he no longer plays drums live) Dude from Defeated Sanity Negu from Negru Bunget

Lars ulrich thinks he’s the leader You saying he thinks he’s the master of puppets? Fun fact, that song is about Dave Mustaine being an obnoxious cokehead.

God I love that band. m.youtube.com/watch?v=wqnvmlGeCKkI just think this performance here is amazing Grant looks like mentally he's psssed out but physically he just can't stop. Incredible that this is all from 1981.

Husker Du. Grant Hart did alot of writing. And singing too. It was a 50/50 creative split between Bob & Grant for sure.

Proscriptor McGovern is the drummer, and singer, and primary creative force behind Absu. Francis Mark also wrote a lot of the lyrics and was the co-vocalist in From Autumn To Ashes, then continued to record the drum tracks even after becoming the frontman. It seems that I completely forget about From Awesome to Average like once a decade, and then I get reminded of their existence. You, my friend, just reminded me of their existence.

ET: Never checked but I bet he played the drums on the Twilight albums.

Even though he left the band A LONG time ago and was only a member for a small portion of their almost forty years I can’t help but think that Mitch Harris was the leader of Napalm Death while he was in the band.

Anthrax. The drummer is the main song writer Does writing most of the songs make you the leader though? Scott Ian has always seemed to be the public face (as opposed to the Public Enemy-zing!) of Anthrax.
