Anthrax. The drummer is the main song writer Does writing most of the songs make you the leader though? Scott Ian has always seemed to be the public face (as opposed to the Public Enemy-zing!) of Anthrax. Charlie and Scott share the roles. Charlie does at least as many interviews as Scott does but I guess because he looks more nondescript than Scott does, people don't pay as much attention to his. I'd argue that the guy who writes more of the music and makes al major song writing decisions and has the biggest hand in promoting things is unquestionaby the band leader, even if everyone remembers the other guy's funny beard more. X-Japan are another band where the drummer makes most of the musical decisions.

Lars ulrich thinks he’s the leader Yeah. Though I would argue that Lars is definitely the 'business leader' of Metallica. James comes across as a more down-to-earth person who couldn't care less about the business side of everything. I don't think he's that fond of interviews, either. But yeah, James is definitely the leader, no matter what Lars thinks. It may be the fanboy in me talking, but Metallica isn't where they are now without James Hetfield. A good example of that is St. Anger. He let the other band members get more involved with the writing process and we all heard the results.
