The game came out 20 years ago and it's not like the director has done a whole lot since. I'm not all that excited either. I want to see actual game play and see how it looks and feels first. Yeah exactly. No slander to No Mercy, it was great for it's time but that was 20 years ago. A lot of games from that era just don't play well in today's era (Mario 64, Goldeneye) so they gotta evolve the format. If they take the blueprints and say "alright, let's turn it up x10 and make it more modern" then I'm sure it'll be good. It's just a matter of if it'll be modern, like a real modern game or if it'll just be "No Mercy with AEW characters and better graphics." If it's the latter nah, I might be outty lol. I'm optimistic cause I can't imagine the devs feeling good about just making a No Mercy clone with the amount of offers/inquires I imagine they've turned down over the years. Like, I can't think of a single non-WWE wrestling game in the last 20 years that wasn't going for No Mercy in some regard (including the ones that didn't get made), so I feel like their mail boxes have been hell.

They have a great shot of being the benchmark so if it doesn't happen here it won't happen. With all of the wrestling games we've seen over the past 20 years surely they have enough material to take the best things from each, including No Mercy, and then create their own unique game. We'll see. Given they're taking this game seriously they might as well go for it.

Obviously, these will change but considering how early these images are, They really aren't that bad.

The graphics are pretty bad but you have me interested at No Mercy.
The GM game looks decent but makes me think they won't have a similar mode in the console game.

The graphics are more than likely placeholder. I don't think it'll look one for one like WWE 2k19, but I am sure those won't be the graphics we'll end up with.

Their tv show is a mix of the best things from all eras of wrestling, so hopefully the game would kinda follow that same logic.

I'm finally watching the whole thing now, and for a shitty reskinned mobile game, that AEW Casino game had a great commercial.

Somebody mentioned that as much as we think it looks like Battlegrounds graphics, the models look like they could be modern, HD versions of the AKI graphics, and I can get behind that if that was the plan. It was a little jarring because we were all expecting 2K19 level style, but if Kenny and Yukes truly want to make a state of the art VPW/Revenge/2000/NM, I'm here for it. As long as they can pull it off and the creation suite is strong, I'm hopeful. Bringing in one of the producers that worked on that series to oversee and advise is definitely a step in the right direction.
Plus, the models actually look like Jericho and Kenny and Shida, and not like whatever the hell they were going with in Battlegrounds.

Willing to wait and see
I'm not interested in nostalgia in the "OMG It's No Mercy" you should be jumping for joy hype
FPW isn't a graphical game but it is a technical wonderland. If you can balance the two then i'm Al In on the game
Also I did say in the PPV thread their would be a mobile game lmao

I absolutely loved the presentation.
While you could argue that they should tone down all the mentions of No Mercy, it doesn't change the fact that they are gonna put a lot of love and work into this. I doubt we'll see them in the working process saying "it resembles no mercy. I guess we're done now. Hyuk hyuk."

I don’t know if this has been pointed out but AKI did do an updated version of stuff on the No Mercy engine with the first two Death Jam games so I wouldn’t have thought they’d pay the dude who directed it and a developer with a tonne of wrestling experience to try and make it act like it’s 2000 or something.

I brought it up. Yeah, the game people should be basing his skills on is Def Jam Vendetta/Fight 4 NY, not (just) No Mercy. We’ll skip over the pseudonym games. All three games have stood the test of time more than any wrestling game except Fire Pro.

I don't need or want any AEW game to play just like No Mercy. If the depth in grappling is there, and have versatility with movement (running and jumping off the apron to name one example), then there's all sorts of ways you can build on top of that system far beyond what the N64 games were capable of.
Its like classic Sonic games; if the physics and balanced level design are there then you've got a solid base that you can expand into anything.
Moreover, having the No Mercy director along with Yukes feels like a solid balance between the experience of older titles and the expertise of more recent games.

Graphics look like BAD PS3 graphics. The game is still in development, so the models can still be changed. Its also not trying to emulate reality, it's just a stylized art direction.
