AEW Games Thread (AEW:FF on Playstation Plus in June)

Part of me wonders if they are waiting to see when 2k23 is coming out before announcing a release date. Granted there is always going to be competition with game releases. Still it would be nice to get an idea of when it'll come out.

do they become unplayable in new patches? I doubt you can keep someones likeness in for perpetuity like that... it's one thing when it's a new game every year but licensing fees were one of the big drawing points for getting into the games...

If it was an issue, Cody wouldn't be in the game at all.

Though I wonder how they handle his music since IIRC he outright owns the rights to it. Does he license it out or give permission to AEW to use it? Or does he get a generic song instead? Or maybe John Silver singing "Something Something Cody Rhodes."

Though I could see the new Dynamite set being dlc because otherwise it's an even further delay with having to not just create the stage but incorporating the videos into it.

I'd imagine like the core roster is there for good, and if you're DLC and eventually are either released or part ways with the company then like you just won't be offered as DLC anymore.

Nothing stops contract from saying " hey we have the right to keep you as dicas in this game forever".

I don't think wwe needs to stop selling dlcs of released people

Yeah, they're not going to edit Punk, etc out of old shows so they don't need to be out of the game either. It feels weird because of how long games are in development and that they can come out months after the wrestler has left but it's the same basic principle. The wrestler was there when the contract was signed and it still stands unless there is a clause saying it doesn't.

I haven't heard of a talent asked themselves to be removed or removed by WWE for DLC. The talent makes a very small residual from that so its beneficial for all. The only thing I can think of is if the talent does something Benoit-esque or super confirmed #MeToo offense. The biggest reason they removed folks like DB and Cole from this years 2K game was so they don't make residuals since they're main event level talents.

I never said it was a talent thing. It's a licensing thing. Your likeness just wouldn't be sold again in whatever Item Shop they would use. Kinda like how Fortnite cycles through items daily. Like there are skins, emotes, etc. that are still in the game, but due to licensing are not long available to purchase, but if you have them you're in the clear.

If that were the hangup they probably would've already announced something since according to 2K's financial reports it's coming out in late March.

AEW Fight Forever was internally expected to be released in September 2022 before the date was shifted to November. Despite Kenny Omega’s hopes for the game to see a release date in 2022, the game eventually was moved into 2023 with a February release window. Unfortunately, February no longer looks to be on the table either.

So what exactly has been happening as of late behind the scenes to cause this game’s release date announcement to be continuously delayed?

Back in November, THQ Nordic and All Elite Wrestling released a new trailer for the video game the weekend of AEW Full Gear, which pegged the game with a Teen rating. The only problem with that is that the game wasn’t officially rated Teen at the time of this announcement.

The ESRB website has yet to list an official rating for AEW Fight Forever; this is due to the fact that previous versions of the game submitted to the ESRB did not get the desired result that All Elite Wrestling and THQ Nordic were hoping for.

A source close to the situation has confirmed that there have been some issues regarding the rating for AEW Fight Forever, which has delayed an announcement of a release date for the game. Other sources have told me in recent weeks the amount of blood and gore in AEW Fight Forever prevented the game from achieving a Teen rating on multiple occasions.

On the bright side, those close to the game are confident with where things are now, as the game has once again been resubmitted to the ESRB recently after multiple back-and-forths on it. As for what the specific issues were with the ESRB, the source didn’t detail what needed to be addressed. Despite that, they did say that everyone is feeling pretty confident that the issues are resolved, but they won’t know for sure until it officially comes back.

With WWE 2K23 now announced for March 17 and Fight Forever likely losing its February release window, it appears the game will fall even further into 2023 than the company originally intended.

If you look at the recent history of planned release date windows for this game, they have all fallen around the time to coincide with one of All Elite Wrestling’s pay-per-view events. A new potential release window that could coincide with Double or Nothing in May is now seemingly on the table.

Really weird. Wonder if it has anything to do with the amount of blood with the women in the game seeing how that isn't something you see in other wrestling games for the most part. I know one of the big selling points was an image of Britt with a red mask of blood. Or maybe they just had to reduce the blood in general a bit I guess?

It probably is the blood on women. The ESRB pulls arbitrary bullshit like this all the time, a similar example I can think of is how Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies is the only game in the series with an M rating and it seems to be entirely because of a shot of Athena as a kid with blood on her when 1), it isn't really any more graphic than anything else in the series, and 2), it isn't even her blood.

It probably is the blood. WWE and UFC games have blood and manage to get Teen ratings but it's just a little red on wrestler's heads. Some of the Fight Forever clips have blood absolutely everywhere with the ring mat soaked in it. It looks like the aftermath of a massacre in Call of Duty or something. They'll probably just have to clean that up a bit to get the T rating.

The ESRB can be really arbitrary about the way it handles ratings. Especially when it comes to T and M ratings.

That said, I didn't realize Wrestlezone (already kind of a shoddy source for wrestling news) can get inside scoops from gaming studios. So I'm pretty skeptical about the accuracy of this article.
