In its last season Roseannes transitioned into a more slap-sticky show and it didn’t feel right.

LOST
Yes the entire series was ment to be weird but God damned.
Also that final episode I remember saying out loud "WHAT THE F*** WAS THAT?" when it was over.

Okay, this is kind of weird for a number of reasons, but I'll say that when New York Undercover went in a different direction in season 4, it took away what made the first three seasons great. Now I don't hate season 4. I remember when TV One and Si TV aired the show, I actually enjoyed some episodes from the fourth season. But the overall feel with the hip-hop soundtrack and the inner city stuff just felt missing. Not to mention that one of the leads was killed off at the end of season 3 (I know another major character was killed off, too, but the other guy was there from day one).
Then came season four when only two of the mainstays were still around and transferred to another precinct, which had a team of only a few cops, led by Tommy from Martin. It just felt different. But like I said, I gave the episodes a chance and I didn't mind them.

The last season of the A*Team had them working for a mysterious American General played by Robert Vaughn (In exchange for a pardon for their crimes) and becoming more like a Mission Impossible styled show with the team going on globe trotting adventures almost every week.

I definitely agree about the Office. I think season 8 was strong so it's not just that Michael has gone but something about season 9 just feels "off" to me. The Jim/Pam marriage trouble and the flip-flopping with Andy probably don't help. Nor are Clark and Plop in it long enough for us to care about them. I hardly ever watch season 9 and usually just skip to the finale.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch
Hilda and Zelda just sort of disappear completely with only brief explanation, ditto for Josh leaving the show. No explanation at all as to what happened to Miles. And now Sabrina is living in her aunt's house with Roxy and Morgan, working at a magazine called 'Scorch'....which gets dropped half-way through the season. Oh and Harvey is around for some reason.
Just a totally bizarre set-up.

Boy Meets World was a rollercoaster of a final season. Start with Cory and Topanga, as well as Shawn and Angela, breaking up. The wrestling episode, with guest star Mankind. Both couples reunite by episode 4. A bizarre wedding planning episode, that is actually Cory and Topanga announcing the wedding is the following week. The wedding and honeymoon episodes. The wedding should have been a series finale, but instead it was less than halfway through the final season. And the honeymoon episode was just weird. Cory and Topanga deal with being a young, newlywed couple still in college. The Casablanca episode. The episode where Eric got struck by lightning and gained the ability to see the future. The episode with Eric and Jack in drag. The episode where the gang nearly split up, with the bad future time skip. Like, the season wasn't exactly bad, but it was very uneven and often odd. They made Eric even more ridiculous in this season, too. You mean Plays With Squirrels.

My wife and daughter binge watch shows like nobody's business, and while they made it through to the start of Season 9 their first time around, now they don't even bother to continue past Michael's departure. Once he heads off to the plane, it's back to S01:E01 we go.

For a long time, season 8 of Red Dwarf was the final season of that show and it completely changed everything about the show...and not for the better. And the drastic change was likely because of the negative reaction to season 7 becoming more of a dramedy.

Angel season 5 was bizzare. They somehow inherited Wolfram and Heart, there was a puppet episode and Spike is now a main character. I liked the final season...but yeah, it was a bit bizarre.

Fresh Prince season 6 still had good stuff, but it was very silly & cartoon-y, almost too silly at times. I almost wonder if S5 was supposed to be it with Will and Lisa getting married but then it was renewed. Because as much as I love Fresh Prince, you can tell they were completely out of ideas going into s6

Regular Show
While it was always over the top with craziness and continuity actually being a thing with how Rigby and Mordecai always f***ing shit up but the park being normal the next episode, them going to space was a big huh
All in all it ended nicely. Found a way to tie everything all together and changing Pops whole backstory but it worked

And the drastic change was likely because of the negative reaction to season 7 becoming more of a dramedy. Came here to post this. The slapstick tone, the gross-out visual humour, and resurrecting the rest of the crew - previously portrayed largely as the straight roles - only now they're even wackier than the main cast, isn't that crrraaaaazy? It was a real kick in the balls after what was - for me - a really enjoyable and promising step forward the previous season.

Gotta throw The Wire in here as well. The fake serial killer thing turned McNulty into something out a bad Law & Order episode and no one outside of the writer's room gave a shit about the newspaper.

Recently watched Banshee and the last series basically changed genres and many of the sets. It was weird, still good but not the same.
Great show btw, if you like good fights and can stomach ridiculously OTT gore then I recommend it.

Not the final season, but I'm still wondering why they took that detour with the corrupt union in Season 2.

Not the final season, but I'm still wondering why they took that detour with the corrupt union in Season 2. The docks storyline did show how futile the war on drugs was with the introduction of The Greek's organization; no matter how many dealers the cops busted, the criminals bringing the drugs in and supplying them to the corners was far beyond their ability to take down. It was also the first look into how the rot that infected an institution affected the city as a whole, which would then expand to politics and education in seasons 3 and 4. The newspaper story was just a self-contained critique on that industry that let Simon air his old grudges, it never really tied into the whole picture.
