I just realized his entire AEW run was during quarantine. He never got to see what a full arena of AEW fans was like. That's a massive bummer, because he would have seen just how much people appreciated him.

I also lost my father at a young age and things like this go a long way: This really puts into perspective how we had a 12 page thread about how and why JR was wrong about a take he had. Makes things feel so insignificant now, in the grand scheme. And it also shows JR's true character. Do we disagree or get annoyed by him sometimes? Yeah... but this stuff here shows he's a good man, with a good heart, that's important to me.

This was the one I dreaded to see. Those two were inseparable. Isn’t the story that they started off absolutely hating each other for awhile, before growing incredibly close over time? More or less. They were teamed without any input from them, with Brodie wanting to work solo. They didn't know each other, really, but would essentially have to be travel buddies for practicality reasons, with them listening to different types of music and Erick being a world-class snorer, but they eventually clicked over something, and with that, it all fell into place.

He's also doing this while grieving Brodie and Hodge, the latter of which was a significant figure in his life. He has his faults but I believe he's a good person and I'm sure this means the world to Brodie to have that distraction for a day.

He's a good man, at the end of the day, but the things that come out his mouth can make you want to strangle him sometimes, and he's at that age where he officially doesn't understand "the kids" anymore and would rather complain than try to keep up. In the end, though, he does care, and I think JR cares, too. It's sad, but sometimes traumatic events like this remind us of the humanity within some of the people we frequently have clashing views with.

Its really weird. This is hard to process for me, and I keep coming back to it. I was watching when Brian Pillman was found dead, when Owen died, and I was still following the news when Eddie and Benoit died. But for some reason, this one is hard for me. I think it's because Jon is only a few years older than me and is such a huge family man, and with three kids of my own it really hurts to think about his children right now. This is just such a huge tragedy all around. I was a big fan of Luke Harper, actively sought out his old Brodie stuff, and that carried over to the Exalted One. But I never thought a wrestler death would ever affect me the way this is. I'm 4 years younger than Jon and feel completely the same as you. I looked at my 2 boys today and started crying. I can only hope I'm half the man Jon was.

I just saw the news in the WWE threads. This is freaking insane. I really started paying attention to him during his first solo run as Luke Harper and thought it was a damn shame more wasn't done with him in either of his solo runs. I didn't get to see his AEW work but it sounds like they knew what they had with him and ran with it so I'm glad to see that. It's insane, the dude is only 4 years older than me, his kid not much younger than I was when my dad died. It's a damn shame, especially with all accounts of him being that he was a great guy. There's precious few of those in wrestling.

This hit me right out of nowhere. I logged out of the pro wrestling bubble over Christmas and now I see this. This is beyond f***ed. Probably the most shocking thing since Benoit.

Imagine him winning the TNT belt in that gear with fans in the arena. Hell, I’d love the climax of the Hangman storyline to include a team win with that gear on.

That's a massive bummer, because he would have seen just how much people appreciated him. True. The irony is, and I don't think I'm alone, is that this run is the most I appreciated him as a talent ever. His work in WWE was fine, but he was never allowed to show much of his personality, or talk at all. While I would have loved to have seen all the sides of his personality, especially as a face, I didn't even know he had any mic skills at all before his AEW run. It really added to his presence.
