#214 - Space Jam: A New Legacy
*HBOMax
I've seen a lot of bad reviews for this and early on, I understood it. The first 10-15 minutes are terrible and they try way too hard to force drama with a LeBron who is too "all business" for his son. However, once the Looney Tunes show up, this becomes a lot of fun. It's not anything great but I had a really good time with most of it. [***]
#215 - Fear Street Part Three: 1666
*Netflix
I really enjoyed this series and I think it stuck the landing. The scenes in 1666 were rough to get through at times because it's so hard to relate to and get invested in. However, once it flips the script and delivers a pretty awesome twist, it races to a really well done finish. [***]

187. Bite* *DVD* This movie literally started almost EXACTLY the same as the one I watched last night called “Contracted”: a bunch of annoying ass people you immediately have no sympathy for PAAAAAARRRRRRTTAAAAAAAAYing, except this time it’s three annoying girls at one of their batchlorette party and they’re even worse actresses. One gets bitten while swimming in a grotto they really shouldn’t be in and hilarity ensues. It was almost the same movie really. There’s more slime in this one. And the girl in this one takes what’s happening to her a lot more seriously than the girl in Contracted did. Sadly the writing is way worse and the movie ends up a lot cheesier. I liked both but Contracted did leave a bit stronger an impression. It had a wicked score, which I never mentioned in my review of that one. This one was definitely nastier and more graphic. But like I said it got too cheesy. One thing for certain, if you like caviar you’re never going to be able to eat it again after watching this.

87. Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021)I am so bored tonight that I decided to do something I never wanted to do, I signed up for HBO Max to watch this. I feel so dirty, like somewhere out there's some Snyder cultist gaining some sort of sustenance from my $15. Oh well, at least I can finally watch TMNT and old-school Planet of the Apes (and Steel too if I'm so inclined). So I see a lot of people on these boards defending this movie. Those people are wrong. This movie sucked. It had a few inspired moments that I won't go into details on for spoiler purposes, but for the most part this was total garbage. LeBron James is a better actor then Michael Jordan, but has none of his likability or charisma. The villain was just obnoxious and I hated every second he was on screen. The attempts to add emotion and depth to the story were laughably bad and I was never for one second able to build up enough interest to care about LeBron and his relationship with his kid. The whole thing was just rapid fire pop culture references and cameos with the hope that enough would hit you to provoke a nostalgic response in you, and it really failed at that. I could honestly see this becoming a "so bad it's entertaining"/RiffTrax fodder classic in like a decade, but as of right now it is just a really bad movie.

72. Die Hard 2
The wife got a boxed set from the library so one of the boys can watch all the Die Hard movies. He watched the first one yesterday and I sat down to watch number two with him today. It is a fun, high-speed action movie loaded with good acting and exciting stunts. It is also a movie chock full of goofs and plot holes and just all around stupid crap. It’s one of those movies that I feel like I should hate more but it is just too enjoyable.

#216 - Saw VII
*Blu-Ray
I remember liking this more the first time around but I think that was just because of Gordon. Watching it again, the movie should've focused more on his story or the plot involving him, Jill, and Hoffman, no matter how goofy it is. The entire subplot with all of the traps and the guy who lied about being a survivor was hot garbage. [*½]

Although I see that you didn't like the film, which is totally fine, this part of your argument doesn't sit well with me. It's almost as if you believe that those who liked the film are in the wrong. Then again, I'm usually one of those people who sees things from other perspectives. For example, I can see why someone might not like something, and taste is entirely subjective. But to say that someone is wrong for their opinion, that's a different story.

Of course everybody is entitled to their own opinion and I apologize if I offended anybody.

87. Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021) 88. *batteries not included (1987)Latest arrival from Netflix. I've actually been waiting on this from Netflix for awhile now and it finally arrived last week. Then I sign up on HBO Max and discover it's on that. Whatever. I remember me and my sister watching this a lot when we were kids, it would show up often on the local stations on the weekend. Just a cute, fun movie from back in the day.

73. Space Jam: A New Legacy
Lebron plays a jerk through three quarters of the movie. Everybody says “Al G Rhythm” about 500 times too many. The Goon Squad was much more creative and yet managed to be less interesting than the originals. Overall it was just okay.

87. Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021) 88. *batteries not included (1987) 89. TMNT (2007)So here's something I've been wanting to re-watch for awhile now but just could never find it anywhere, at least anywhere I didn't have to pay extra for. But now I can get some mileage out of my HBO Max subscription. This is supposed to be a continuation of the original TMNT live-action 90's movie trilogy, but I always found it an awkward fit at best. None of the character personalities feel quite right, April being the worst. How does she go from being a relatively grounded news reporter in the trilogy to the shipping business owner/relic hunter/junior ninja apparently capable of holding her own against Karai in this? That aside, it's actually a pretty fun outing. Maybe not completely worthy of a theatrical release, but I have no regrets watching it. 90. Daredevil (2003)Saw this on Peacock and figured I'd give it a re-watch. Not entirely sure why though. I remember I didn't hate it when I first saw it in theaters back in college, but I don't remember particularly thinking that highly of it either. In hindsight I may have been too kind to it back in the day. Tonally inconsistent and dotted with spotty performances (notably Jennifer Garner). One moment it's a dour movie straight out of Zack Snyder's DCEU, the next two grown adults are having a martial arts duel on a playground. This was just a total mis-step.

188. The Boss Baby: Family Business* *THEATRE* I know I went to a theatre to see this. In fact, I’m sitting in the theatre right now watching it. But I have no idea what it’s about or what’s happening. It’s that good.

74. Fatherhood
Kevin Hart does wacky, goofy comedies, right? Not today. This story of a man whose wife dies and leaves him with a newborn girl let’s him show that he can actually act. Cute and touching and well done.

Okay, so this might be the most wholesome, heartwarming, and adorable movie ever. And I hear the sequel is even better. [****]

75. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
It’s an all star cast in a strangely plotted movie. Michael Ceramic is pure angst. The villains are all cartooney. The music is bad grunge punk. It has all the elements of a terrible movie and yet it is non stop fun from start to finish.

189. Nightbeast* *bluray* Whoa boy. I was about to comment solely on the cheese of the monster in this…then the sex scene happened. It was…it was one of the worse good bad things I’ve seen in my life. Imagine your parents in a sex scene. There it is. Wow. Just wow. This was basically an R-rated episode of Scooby Doo, which is exactly what I said about Don Dohlers previous movie “the Alien Factor” last year. In my review of that I only wished for more gore and I got it with this. Not too much but enough for long me to give this the highest recommendation that is humanly possible.

190. Ladrones de tumbas (Grave Robbers)* *bluray* Right from the second I hit play this had me with one of the best opening credit sequences I’ve seen. Simple red letters on a black background but with this haunting chant music that can only lead to nightmares. The music ended up being a huge high point for this movie and unfortunately the soundtrack isn’t available anywhere in any form I can find. The movie itself is a great dirty gritty Mexican gore fest that only keeps getting better the longer it goes on. Great ambiance and violence. I couldn’t ask for a more wonderful zombie movie.

88. *batteries not included (1987) 89. TMNT (2007)90. Daredevil (2003) 91. Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970)So about a year ago I stumbled across the original Planet of the Apes on TV. I enjoyed it and realized I haven't seen any of its sequels in forever. I've been keeping an eye out for them but they just haven't been showing up on TV. But they're on HBO Max so now I get to check them out. This one is pretty underwhelming. James Franciscus tries his darndest to elevate it, but between the weird sci-fi cliches this added, Charlton Heston blatantly looking like he'd rather be doing anything else, the movie feeling really slow paced, the mutants just being boring antagonists and the incredibly cynical ending, this just feels like a poorly thought-out cash grab.
