1. Would it be more or less insane than Jinder winning?
2. Miz would immediately cash in on him, wouldn’t he?
3. If not, who would you want Pearce to defend the belt against at Mania?

1. Less
2. Yes - prompting Roman to turn the tribal chief gimmick face
3. Nakamura seems sensible in story if he won it and held it until then

1. Like right now? It'd be around that level of insane, comparable levels.
2. Probably.
3. Echoing Nakamura.

1. It'd be more insane because a) he's not been portrayed as an actual wrestler capable of even defending himself and b) he's going up against the chiefest of tribal chiefs.
2. If he somehow performs the miracle of beating Reigns without shenanigans I would hope they keep the title on him and attempt to explain the viewing audience who has never seen him wrestle, just who he is and how the hell he got to be good enough to beat Roman Reigns.
3. Can't give this much thought as I feel there isn't even a snowball's chance in hell of that happening, but I'll say Nakamura or Kevin Owens.

#2 is absolutely yes, I know that much for sure.
The real question is, will WWE actually acknowledge, out loud on TV, that Pearce was NWA Heavyweight Champion before?

4. You meant the UNIVERSAL title.
If he does win, he had better have a belt with a post box in the middle if he returns to the Firefly Funhouse.

People saying it's more believable are accounting for non-WWE continuity, which WWE almost never does.
To a WWE-only fan, Pearce has only ever been a glass of milk in a suit. This would be like, if Coachman had an assistant that won the title, because Coachman at least had a few matches on WWE TV.

What they need to do is establish Pearce's history and position him as a veteran getting his first and maybe only shot. Will they do that? Well it is WWE so who knows.

1. More insane since it would show that the WWE championship belt is merely a prop, devoid of any meaning at this point in its 58-year history _or_ the purportedly 116-year history of the World Heavyweight Wrestling Championship it absorbed with the former NWA/WCW title.
2. Miz will try, but has no business succeeding.
3. Whosoever wins the Rumble this year will go for the Universal title this time around: given the relative mire the two main rosters have been in the last few months, I think the winner will be someone fresh from NXT.

1. More insane, but probably also much more entertaining.
2. Yes, and it'd be an interesting story since Pearce is the reason Miz got the briefcase back.
3. Reginald!

Seriously, the only way I ever score 1997 Shotgun for this rankings thing is with a key to the physical WWE video archive in that cave somewhere.

Given the recent news, there's a chance Pearce DOES win it with how Roman basically went into isolation the last time WWE had this kind of recent news...
