Some people seem to forget that the 2016 Royal Rumble match was also for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. So AJ Styles first match in WWE was a world championship match. Nice way to debut. Really? People forgot that the big surprise Triple H appearance at #30 wasn't for the WWE title? huh. One factoid that'll for whatever reason always live in my brain rent-free is that when #30 came out at the 2006 Rumble (I forgot who that is, funny enough), exactly half of the people in the entire match were in the ring.

That is legit one of the nastiest injuries I've seen live because you can see his entire face convulse in pain and a vet like Rey legit looking worried. And given someone has a career ending arm break about 2 minutes later! Who got the arm break? So thats how he got the concussion that ended his career? I thought it was bubba dudley Weirdly a few years ago, there was an article in which Chris himself said it was a mule kick from Bubba in the Rumble that ended his career. This is provably false because Bubba did not enter one until 2015, but I think fact checking the concussed guy on his own career wasn't something anybody felt like doing, understandably.

Michael Cole’s “OHHHHH MY GOD!!” When Triple H shows up at #30 in 2016 has to be the most forced “surprise” from a commentator ever. Everyone and their mother saw it coming, it was nothing like Cena in 2008 (or even Roman the following year at #30) which no one predicted.

I think the whole show's been lost to time given who won it but I'm almost done with the 2004 Rumble show and it's got some great, shorter matches between a fun tag team tables match with the Dudleyz/Evolution, Jamie vs. Rey, Eddie vs. Chavo, Brock vs. Holly and HBK vs. HHH. I wish the Rumble was still a show of this length. It's like 2:45 and so easy to watch.

Another thing about this Rumble, there is one line of commentary that did NOT age well at all: JR: "It looks like a tornado has blown through New Orleans. Or a hurricane." 2nd biggest Rumble "harsher in hindsight" commentary line behind this bit from 1997. JR: "Sometimes you think Owen is made of elastic. He bends but never breaks." I know, he's praising Owens skinning the cat move, but... I cringe everytime... DON'T watch the March 1989 SNME then. I like the commentary bits portion of this thread, I'd love to see that carry on. Course half that thread would be Heenan in 1992 alone, but...

But if you had asked me the day of the show who would win the stacked Rumble, I would have said Goldberg, Cena ("I'm main eventing Wrestlemania 20!") or Angle, who literally dedicated the win to USA. People don't talk about the sick bump Cena takes when Big Show tosses him in 04'.

Slightly around the topic, but Rumble 1995 is mostly remembered from lacking HARD on star power and having Davey Boy and Shawn Michaels feature the whole match. But what I noticed from watching it a few days ago is how absolutely dire the match is, even compared to other Rumbles. I think I could count actual moves on one hand and the rest of the match was only punching. There was not even basic slams nor suplexes.

Not really a moment so to speak.
But in 1990 the first few entries got their theme music played but then just stopped.. Seemed a little odd.
It wasnt until 1996 that every entry having their theme played became a thing.
It's like they toyed with the idea and just went "Nah".

The one that gets me is this: Jonathan Coachman was in 2 Royal Rumble matches, Scott Hall was in none! (Much as I was a Razor fan, I'm in no hurry to put a 62 year old man with a pacemaker in the ring to counter this one!)
Also, 2009 Rumble, Jericho eliminates RVD to boos and then there's the great shot of Taker standing right behind Jericho. But in a cool character moment I missed, Jericho's face changes to dread before he turns because he glances down at the camera taking the shot and realises whats going on!

Dude tore some ligaments in his knee and had to work in a brace for the next couple of months.

Damien Demento circling the ring in 93, whislt gonzales killed and eliminated taker.
More of a random observation than anything.

I mean, its obviously not true, but I like to pretend that Demento laste 20 minutes in that Rumble because they forgot he was out there. iirc Pat Patterson once said something like that actually happened but he was vague on the details of when.

Just watched the 2005 Rumble. This Rumble had so many little moments and it helped that the crowd was hot for all of it, especially the final two. But there were so may great spots in this match:
Eddie and Benoit as the first two and them running the ring for the first few minutes. But, I will say that them and Hardcore Holly taking Daniel Puder "to the woodshed" as JR put it, has not aged well at all lol
The Smackdown vs. Raw faceoff was fun and again, the crowd was hot for it. The beat down on Hassan, though, again, doesn't stand the test of time.
The World's Greatest Tag Team reunion got a huge pop from the crowd and it was refreshing to see them not turn on each other immediately afterwards.
Just like the year before with Ernest Miller, Tazz sings when Rene Dupree is doing his "French Tickler" dance: "I'm a French Man! I'm a French tickle guy!" right before Jericho throws him out.
Simon Dean doing squats at ringside has to be one of the funniest Rumble images. As is HBK doing a few "squats" of his own after eliminating Dean.
Angle's short run was one of the most dominating thirty second periods in any Rumble, I think.
Paul London took the bump of the night when he was eliminated. That clothesline from Snitsky looked like it killed him.
Coach got so much heat for his cheap shots on Benoit and Kane. And Flair was hella over for eliminating him.
Cena dumping Viscera and Kane made him look like a beast, back in the days when he wasn't lifting up big guys every week.
The crowd actually seemed upset when Batista eliminated Flair lol
When it got down to Batista vs. Cena, they had the crowd in the palm of their hands.
The double elimination may not have been part of the script, but they handled it so well on the fly, if I didn't know the truth, I would have thought it was planned. As soon as the Raw referee raises Batista's hand, the Smackdown refs are shaking their heads, arguing with the Raw refs and they just generally do a good job of buying time for someone to come up with a plan B. The only real snafu was Vince tearing both quads on that dive into the ring lol but even then, Vince sitting on the mat, looking pissed off as everyone shouts at him, is an iconic moment, if not for all the wrong reasons.

Mr. Perfect being in the final 3 in 02 is super random. They even seemed to kind of tease a feud with Austin? And then they didn’t do anything with him after. Weird.

In the 1996 Royal Rumble when Vader and Yokozuna take turns beating Savio Vega to a pulp. For example, Vader splashes Savio in the corner and then Yokozuna does his running butt splash to Savio in the corner.
