I can imagine DX making fun of him. Don't forget who's in the writer's room at this point. SWERVE! Tunney joins DX. "FURTHERMORE, YOU CAN SUCK IT!"

a 70 year old on TV would have been a weird thing to see in the Attitude Era Funny enough, Moolah and Mae Young(moreso Mae) got over for comedic purposes. As the saying for the Attitude Era went "anything can happen in the WWF!"

I dunno, I think by his last year or so he was moreorless out of the on-air role. To think, there used to be a day when the figurehead president/commissioner/general manager was not something the WWF/E ever needed.... Maybe he'd have been game for something, but I think he was absolutely an old-timer guy with that classic mentality whose role would've been recast with someone younger or def. more active in the current product. I can't recall how Tunney's departure went. Was there a storyline, or anything on TV? Or was he just gone? Nothing on TV, but WWF Magazine did a story around the time of his actual departure about how he'd been "bought" by DiBiase and resigned when the news broke.
IIRC his last TV appearance before that had been many months, maybe even a year, earlier. I don't get why they didn't say that on TV as it would've been a good way to write him off. Also since he apparently left on bad terms it would've been a good way to bury him on the way out. Sid was getting a lot of title shots around time that he kayfabe probably didn't deserve so it would've lined well with what they were doing at the time and would've put more heat on Dibiase with him using his money to bribe the President to get his men title shots.

Did Tunney appear again after the first In Your House in May 1995? On that show, he kept being bothered by Jerry Lawler, who wanted his match with Bret Hart moved to earlier in the show after Bret appeared to get injured wrestling Hakushi in the opener.
