I was a bit reluctant to watch this as I’ve not played the game and I’d started to get Walking Dead fatigue seven series in. I didn’t know if this would be too much of the same, but thankfully it’s different enough to keep me watching. Plus it ended with Depeche Mode playing over the credits, which is never a bad thing.

But man Anna Torv killed it, it hit me watching that she has history with Playstation stuff too since she was the lead in Heavenly Sword. |

Episode 2 was real good. The clickers were totally on-point, i.e. goddamn terrifying, and I think Bella has nailed Ellie's character for the most part. I really dig the expanded backstory they've given for the infection outbreak - the Jakarta flashback gave me the same "impending doom" vibe that the first episode of Chernobyl did - and the whole "fungal network connecting infected groups" detail is a cool addition. Part of me misses the spores, since they made the infection threat feel more omnipresent, but I can understand why they wouldn't want their actors wearing masks for big chunks of episodes.

This show is such a mixed bag. Ellie started to get X-Pac heat from me in this episode, but the show thankfully course-corrected at the end. Think the cold opens showing the world pre-cordyceps are pointless. Some changes from the game I dislike, others do a better job. Any time the show does something verbatim from the game it comes across as very flat.
I'll stick with the show, but I'm still wondering why it exists when the games are easily available, and TLoU 1 has been both remastered and recently remade.
Maybe the show will start setting up some content and characters from TLoU2. Really dig in deep into the divisive stuff and try to chicken salad what didn't work in that game. (hint: to me, it's not the biggest thing people complain about.)
