The Last of Us concept and story is really not that good or interesting on its own Taking the gameplay out of it makes it just another zombie story Eh… If they nail the Joel / Ellie dynamic, it’ll be better than just a run of the mill zombie story. Above average, sure. But zombie media has a way higher bar to clear to grab my interest nowadays

Yeah the story between them is the whole great thing that will get people interested. Even in the saturated zombie market of games, this stood out cause their relationship. TLOU can def stand on its own as a story

I can’t remember the last time I’ve actively looked forward to a series like I am this one.

I've only watched some of TLOU gameplay, and most of TLOU2, I'll probably make it a point to watch it in full before the series just to compare. I'm curious to see how it goes.

Kind of don't see the point to this. The first game was already very cinematic in its look and presentation and very televisual in how the narrative is segmented into discrete units, in which each level is like an episode of TV. So making an HBO "peak TV" production out of this video game seems to miss the point of what Naughty Dog was doing.
I also don't know if the show can navigate the high-wire acts of staying close enough to the video game to appease anyone who loves the game but also doing enough that's different not to alienate anyone who has already played the game and is familiar with the story.
And the game just got re-re-released as a technical upgrade/remake a couple of weeks ago, so it's not like the game isn't still widely accessible to people who want to check out the property.
But Craig Mazin did a great job with Chernobyl, so I'm in the wait-and-see camp currently.

It was a video game You open the realms of a much wider audience with TV and it's not like it has to be 1-1. People who love the game are fine going along with the ride as long as you don't get too cute with it (killing Joel/Ellie). If they are willing to buy the game 3-4 diff times, they will watch the show and there is something to be said about being on the real screen by actors and getting the same vibes you got from the game as far as thrill and enjoyment

Trailer looked very good. Main thing I'm hoping for with this show is that it maintains the flicker of optimism the game had, rather than simply being nihilistic misery porn like The Walking Dead (or hell, like Last of Us Part 2 for that matter).

TLOU2 is a game i've said before I will only play once It is exhausting to get through. Very good and fun game but it is dread all over. TWD did offer glimmers of hope and you had a bigger cast to interact with so it wasn't always misery

Oh no it def became misery porn with Negan, since they made the group a bunch of bitches the whole season and it still took them basically into S8 to get their shit together Tho I think a lot of people had their fill once they killed Carl off. Major character deaths went from shocking to just being shocking for the sake of it. They did have a rebound during the Whispers arc since the group wasn't invincible anymore and to their credit that arc was better on TV than it was in comic but it was too little too late

Ya “nihilistic misery porn” covers TLOU2 pretty well. Though still think so so much of that was the ultra shitty epilogue. I would have loved it if it ended on the farm. I’m probably going to replay it to that point when I’m done with the TLOU1 remake and pretend that’s the canonical ending of Ellie’s journey.

I still say even if they went with the final ending, it should been players choice Even if you got fans to really get on the side of Abby, 75% of them would probably still killed her. They tried to compromise an ending they keeps everything moving but after that long journey with Ellie and the time spent on the farm, ain't no way people are letting Abby walk away Either you should did Abby section of the game first and MGS2'd us with the character swerve, give us an ending game selection or like you said end the game at the farm If anything TLOU3 could been both Abby and Ellie trying to seek redemption for their f***ed up ways and wanting to help keep their loved ones safe

Which broke my heart because I grew to love the Ellie character over our journeys prior.
