Well, it was a game of extremes. They had to do what they did to Ellie, to give Abby any chance at all of anyone sympathizing with her, after what happened to Joel. And yes, I agree that the whole game is just misery porn, and I really have no desire to play it again.
It's even put me off the first game a bit, what with knowing what happens. I kinda had the same problem with RDR2 to a certain extent, although that managed to balance the sadness with the rest of the game quite well.

This is exactly why I haven't bought the remake of Part 1 yet. It's like "do I really wanna play through this again knowing that every surviving character goes on to either die miserably or become completely irredeemable?" So yeah, I'm hoping the TV series takes way more inspiration from Part 1 than Part 2 in terms of tone and writing.

I still need to paly Last of US 2 but I am not going to lie, the writing seems like a mix bag like some good ideas but iffy execution. Despite all the praise I heard reading about the game, the whole plot leaves me with a feeling like I would be mad at the game if I actually played it no matter how good the game paly might be.
On the subject of the show it looks fantastic and I am excited to see it when it premiers. It certainly has a good cast behind it.

The gameplay is exhausting but still fun and while the story is misery, I do think it is up to every person in what they get out of it and how they feel

My gut tells me that while maybe it won't be the masterpiece the critics put it on pedestal wise, it is also probably not the dreck others say either-so likely good enough. I bet the gameplay itself is great though and that was equally what made the first one great.

Like everything from the facial expressions to the dirt on their skin is just realistic and adds to the grittiness of the game. It is not a technical or game play masterpiece but it is a game to def play once just because you don't get a lot of games like that where even your brief moments to breath are intense

You certainly are selling me more on getting the game.

Well that looks goddamn fantastic.
I should probably play these games at some point. I started the first one but just didn't get into it. Had the same problem with the Uncharted games, maybe something about Naughty Dog just doesn't click with me.

You should play the game While the TV show may be a faithful adaption, the game is an experience you have to play. Tho if you didn't get into it after that dramatic first part of the game then maybe you won't be hooked for the game and can just stick to the show

{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}So are they going to have Joel walk around with a big 'I'm evil' sign so people don't get upset when Abby smashes his head in with a golf club while making Ellie watch because Joel killed (actually the game made you kill him) a random npc while trying to save who had become basically his adopted daughter from having parts of her brain cut out and removed?
