Catching up on the tag tournament, can't believe Daisy Monkey is out already when there's still some underwhelming teams. Also annoyed Himawri is out too, she's pretty good already. It's rare a new act come so fully formed. That crowd seemed to love Uehara Wakana even more, nice to have cheering back. The trios match was great fun. HIMAWARI I'm not so worried about because they were so quick to give her a trios win. I'm also a bit sad to see Daisy Monkey out, but Moka Miyamoto has really put it together and I feel like Juria Nagano's had enough impressive showings that I'm happy to see them advance instead. Daisy Monkey's had enough really good showcases that I could see them getting a bigger push at any moment, whereas the tournament feels like a good vehicle to make Moka/Juria a serious contender team. At bare minimum, I'd call the two teams equal in standing now, whereas I'd have put Daisy Monkey a tier or two higher before the tournament.

Oh I just saw the weird brackets! Misunderstood, thought the regular tag matches were tournament ones. It's not so bad then. I'd still have structured it for Daisy Monkey to be in the semis rather than Rika/Miu though.

After Miyu Yamashita & Maki Itoh vs. Moka Miyamoto & Juria Nagano...
Maki is just really, really good at making an up-and-comer look like she's about to break through. That ending sequence with Nagano was more tense than it had any right to be. Feels like a lot of stuff left over from Maki's underdog act, like her quick comebacks and her restrained moveset, translate really well to making it believable that a rookie can topple her. The match outcome seemed obvious to me when the tag rhythm made clear that Itoh vs. Nagano would be the closing stretch - I could have believed Miyamoto pinning Itoh in a tag match at this point - but they really kept making me doubt, especially the spot where Nagano's kick to the head was enough to push Maki back even if Nagano went down with foot pain afterward.

Brilliant main event, struggling to think of the last time I had such an even 50/50 split both for who I wanted to win and who I thought would win. MotY candidate...but I've said about quite a few matches already this year.
Great show all around, Pom might be my new favourite.
Grand Princess was already shaping up nicely and now we have NEO Biishiki-gun finally returning plus Billy Starks and er...Andreza the giant panda.

I hadn't realized that Arisu Endo hadn't gotten a singles win before - I misremembered her as beating Kaya Toribami because, like, everybody beats Kaya Toribami. Given I really like Arisu, I would be really down for her to get a push, especially for Daisy Monkey to get a "greater than the sum of their parts" type tag push.

The ascent of Pom Harajuku into one of the most interesting, dependable wrestlers on TJPW's roster is like a surrealist film come to life.

The ascent of Pom Harajuku into one of the most interesting, dependable wrestlers on TJPW's roster is like a surrealist film come to life. It's great that the conditions exist in tjpw for that to happen. Doesn't feel like it would elsewhere. I hope there's an extended rivalry and/or friendship between her and Hyper Misao soon, the craziness they could come up with.

Miu/Rika and Yuka/Mizuki being built concurrently is really, really interesting, especially with the tag tournament ending in what felt to me like a solidification of 121,000,000's dynamic and Kyoraku Kyomei taking second place.
Oh, and Sakisama is coming back, too, after having been the catalyst for other wrestlers to change up their gimmicks for a tag title push.
I have no idea how these things all fit together, but my wrestling instincts say the TJPW tag division is about to get mixed up in some way with new duos taking the spotlight. Anyone who's been watching longer who either sees the same thing, or thinks I'm off base?

I've said it before but I'm always impressed how much variety they get on big cards with a relatively small roster. A super hero and big kaiju vs a giant panda and a cat, how can it not be MOTY?

A tjpw show with "princess" in the title is to me what the Tokyo Dome is to Dave Meltzer. All the stars.
Despite a disappointing result Miu Vs Rika was the best match in the traditional sense, those swing spots were crazy. In a less traditional way how can lightsabers Vs giant pandas not be 8 stars?
Still digesting the main event, felt a bit too much like Yuka let her partner win but I think the weirdly compelling pin struggle saved it. Those stomps were brutal.
Everything else delivered too, I always appreciate just how character driven it all is. Hope Starkz is really ok like she says.

I really enjoyed the show today. The newbies looked good in their debuts/first big shows. My favourite matches were Miu vs Rika, Aja vs Yuki Arai and my number one was Moka vs Aniki (though that is blatant bias as Moka Miyamoto is my favourite in TJPW and Ryo Mizunami is just all around amazing).
My least favourite match was probably the main event. Don’t know why but I’ve really gone off Yuka Sakazaki recently. Her selling against Miyu at the last big show was terrible in my opinion and she seemed off again in the main event today.

Sounds like maybe it's time for her to move on from that promotion and go elsewhere to see if she can regain her motivation in the ring.

I don't think it's a lack of motivation, it's actually a rare case of someone being too keen to put someone over but the execution not fully working. She did that by becoming more of a bully and no-selling so it would mean more when her partner eventually beat her. The bullying works when it's via out-wrestling akin to Danielson but not the no-selling, she is a powerhouse but it's not like she's Aja Kong or Max The Impaler. Then the structure of the match undermined it all by being more about her losing than Mizuki winning. It will be interesting to see what direction she's goes in next.

Knowing Koda this is to have them do a rematch after a long while where Yuka goes “all out” and Mizuki beats her more definitively or something. The last shot of them on stage and Yuka staring that became the shupro cover seems way too on the nose.

A terrifying early glimpse of the dominance to come, Pom will make Roman Reigns' run with title(s) seem short.

Max and Pom's ongoing story is the best thing in wrestling. I might need to go an update the favourite tag-team thread.
