Can anyone give more detail on what was going on during the hype main event?
Even if I was confused and had to watch much of it on double speed I enjoyed it (heel Endo alter-ego needs to be a thing) but suspect I'd have loved it if I spoke Japanese.
In other news Nyla Rose will be facing Yuka at SSP.

Wow. Figured it must be a multiverse for unclear reasons but didn't except a time travel swerve.

Yuka Sakazaki has a neck injury discovered during a medical check and was told to rest. Magical Sugar Rabbits have vacated the Princess Tag Titles and at Summer Sun Princess Nyla will wrestle someone else instead.

Pom stole the show again! Himawari played her part well too.
Hope Yuka's injury isn't too bad, she deserves a good final run.

After my April 2020 trip to Japan trip fell through I've thinking of going this Autumn and have noticed Wrestle Pricess IV is October 9, 2023 at Tama Mirai Messe, Tokyo (Hachioji City) which might be perfect if I can get a cheap enough flight. Apparently it has a 2000 attendence, even if that's reduced a bit for wrestling there's no way TJPW is selling that out right? So I could buy tickets while over there? www.ddtpro.com/schedules/20596

Wow what a main event. Shame tjpw doesn't get the respect it deserves on year end lists because that would be up there.
A little disappointing overall though, one of the weaker princess shows since I started watching. Less variety with several size difference based matches and the two non-tjpw title matches being foregone conclusions.
Plus with several big names leaving or being around less often you'd think more would be elevated. Someone like Suzume beating Sawyer Wreck would have been a lot more meaningful.

Elevation feels like a tricky concept right now. Yuka's upcoming departure, Miyu and Maki's increased international presence, and Yuka's injury during what should be her goodbye tour, are all throwing wrenches in what feels like the natural progression of the roster. TJPW's main priority right now seems to be establishing Mizuki as the 1a ace and main eventer, with Rika Tatsumi as the 1b, and I think those are both going quite well right now - Tatsumi in particular has been on fire since winning the International belt.
But with that turmoil at the top, it feels like there's a ton of indecision as to who else should be pushed and how hard. Maki Itoh has evolved into a full package who has some of the best matches in the promotion nowadays, but her international popularity makes it feel like a matter of when, not if, she scales back or leaves. Kamiyu and Pom Harajuku feel like they're in this in-between state where they are solid wrestlers who are in a good position for a push, but are also so over as midcard comedy acts that the transition looks rocky. Yuki Aino is probably the best worker outside of the main event scene and Miu, but she lacks a real gimmick and she's good but not good enough to main event on ring work alone. Yuki Arai seems to be over enough for that push, but it feels too soon for her.
It also feels like a weirdly large percentage of the roster is currently in the "disappointing losses before reaching the next level" stage of their career. Suzume, Yuki Aino, Yuki Arai, Hikari Noa, and Kamiyu (when she isn't just putting over everyone else) have all been taking the kinds of losses that could be building to a breakthrough win, but like, that's a big percentage of the roster to be doing that. And it's paired with Pom getting the "maybe not a joke" tag push, Arisu Endo and Nao Kakuta making the transition to serious lower-card threats, and an influx of freelancers and gaijin who are sort of propping up the upper midcard and making the big shows bigger.
Miu Watanabe getting the "disappointing loss" treatment at this show just adds to that whole feeling, because she could win the Princess of Princess belt off whoever beats Mizuki and it would feel right. I don't think she's damaged by it, mind, it just adds to this feeling like most of the roster is kind of stuck.

Princess Cup 2023 opening round matches are up!
7/14 Mizuki vs. Miyu Yamashita Hyper Misao vs. Moka Miyamoto
7/15 Rika Tatsumi vs. Raku Shoko Nakajima vs. Suzume
7/16 Kamiyu vs. Nao Kakuta Miu Watanabe vs. Yuki Aino
7/21 Arisu Endo vs. Mahiro Kiryu Yuki Arai vs. Hikari Noa
This is a really well-chosen batch of tournament openers, IMO. I like how there are close-to-toss-up matches for the main event, midcard, and lower card sprinkled in with the predictable first round matches.

The Mizuki/Yamashita match is on the show starting in an hour and a half or so, right?

My opinion on the first round matches being especially good feels validated after tonight. {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}Moka Miyamoto was second only to Raku as the wrestler I felt was least likely to pass the first round, but here we go. That's probably the biggest upset possible with this bracket, right in the first match of the tournament.

Yeah, Misao seemed like a very safe bet to go a ways, and now, welp. Miu seems like a good choice to win, although I could easily see Aino taking her out right away. The second block is kind of weird because it feels like whoever wins Aino/Miu will end up in the finals, but every individual match feels close to a toss-up.

Rika Tatsumi just had a tense main event with Raku. I like Raku, but that really seals the deal that Rika can do no wrong right now.
And Suzume/Shoko ruled. Definitely my favorite Shoko singles match since she lost the Princess of Princess title.

Damn didn't expect such a good match from Raku, don't know why, it's such a regular thing in TJPW for someone I'd pigeon holed into a certain role to step up like that it shouldn't still be surprising.
Did expect it from the other two and they delivered.
Got to admit there too much wrestling so I'm skipping to the tournament matches so please let me know if I'm missing anything particularly good.
