I’m mixed on the DP remakes... I am not digging the graphics, kind of disappointing that the characters haven’t got new outfits. I’m anxious about the word “faithful” and worry that we’ll get the awful Dex that didn’t allow you to see half of the new Pokémon until post-game. Remember the lack of fire types and an Elite Four member having only two of them? However, Legends sounds really cool and I’ve wanted an old history type of Pokemon game for years.
The most interesting thing: GameFreak are not developing the remakes but are working on Legends which comes out in 2022. Hopefully this means GameFreak is slowly getting their shit together but I have doubts.

I imagine this is probably not going to be the case this time, but even if it is, online trading is so much easier now that I don't think it will be as much of an issue.

In my copy of the OG Diamond I chose Piplup as my starter so Ponyta/Rapidash was my only choice for a fire type and he was terrible. Platinum added Magmortar, Flareon and Houndoom at least. One of the more baffling decisions in a Pokémon game, especially when there were many Bug, Grass, Ice and Steel types.

I'm cautiously optimistic about these games, but will need more information before I make a decision. Here's hoping some of the Platinum changes get worked in, though!

Plus side is that people have noticed a few Platinum elements scattered about the trailer so hopefully that helps. Pretty clear they won't be doing Platinum's story (which is dumb when it's a lot more strongly put together than DP's, but whatever) but at least if we get the expanded Pokedex and some of the other refinements it made that might help a bit. Preferably if they also remove the HMs because it was a mechanic that always sucked in this series and is probably the biggest part of why Mt. Coronet is such a pain in the ass. In general I don't really get how with the Pokemon remakes they seem to generally prefer to ignore the superior third versions as much as possible. Crystal had a lot of references in HGSS, but FRLG didn't really take any cues from Yellow (though to be fair Let's Go certainly did) and other than some nods around Rayquaza ORAS didn't seem to want anything to do with Emerald. I love how Pokemon fans begged for a Pokemon game that looks like Breath of the Wild and now are complaining because it looks like Breath of the Wild. I mean, it's probably different people expressing those opinions? Certainly not something I ever wanted from this franchise.

OK, I will freely admit I'm pretty much an outsider to Pokémon gaming, having only ever played Yellow in full in the main series. But the thing I find most interesting is that Legends only has one game to its brand, unlike the default two versions for main-line games (and in the past a third update). So I wonder if Legends is supposed to be just a single player experience or if they're hiding the normal trading and battling stuff for later. I mean, with this ancient time setting, it would make sense to be a more solo experience that doesn't have the level of communication among people that later times in this universe would have. My guess with the solo title and how much it differs from their standard stuff it's going to be more like their spin off titles and not act like the mainline games.

I might be slightly interested init as a side-quel.. but if this is how the pokemon games are going I'm likely hoping off more permanently than I have been.

I do like their using the link awakening style graphic for the remake. Always thought that game had underrated graphic for the switch. The graphics do remind me of it the Chibi style of the world map fit the sprite design too... they always had little squat bodies and massive heads outside of battles.

The art style's really the aspect of BDSP I take the least issue with. I like the look of it and how it emulates the originals and really it's not like SwSh is a gorgeous game in the first place so I don't exactly mind it not looking like it.

I'm baffled by how terrible the box art is. Doesn't really matter - I barely ever buy physical games anymore anyway - but it feels so much like that N64 era of, "If we don't put a bad 3D model on there people won't know it's 3D!" That both Dialga and Palkia seem to be showing off their O faces isn't helping.

I’m intrigued with Legends but it looks so bad graphically. Like how does that happen?

Who at gamefreak thought bringing back HMs was a good idea? It's like one of the few things the entire fanbase can agree upon that HMs suck. Worse of all they bring it back for Gen 4 the king of pointless HMs, defog? rockclimb? How about no thank you

If they keep the same dumbass leveling system (or don’t have the option to turn it off) I don’t think I’m even going to bother. I'm guessing BDSP won't because it's not made by Gamefreak and they were stressing how faithful it is to the original (which feels like a mistake given the original DP has horrendous Pokemon distribution and 80% of it is walking through the same boring-ass cave over and over, but whatever). Legends: Arceus, who the hell knows. Just read a preview article on IGN and the awful new experience share is IN. So, I am officially OUT.

I never understood the hate for exp share, personally I don't miss needing to grind for 2 hours everytime I caught a new mon just to get it on par with the team. Plus what I do to alleviate over leveling is a rotation of pokemon that allows for more diversity then youd get during the pre exp share gens. If there is something to complain about with the remake is that they decided to bring back 1 time only TMs
