Figured should make a discussion thread for them separate from the main Nintendo one since Pokemon games tend to earn a lot of chatter.
Both are seeming pretty skippable to me honestly but I guess I can see the appeal if an open-world action RPG or a faithful recreation of spending 20 hours stumbling around Mt. Coronet is what you're looking for. I do like the art style on BDSP though.

If they keep the same dumbass leveling system (or don’t have the option to turn it off) I don’t think I’m even going to bother.

I'm guessing BDSP won't because it's not made by Gamefreak and they were stressing how faithful it is to the original (which feels like a mistake given the original DP has horrendous Pokemon distribution and 80% of it is walking through the same boring-ass cave over and over, but whatever). Legends: Arceus, who the hell knows.

OK, I will freely admit I'm pretty much an outsider to Pokémon gaming, having only ever played Yellow in full in the main series.
But the thing I find most interesting is that Legends only has one game to its brand, unlike the default two versions for main-line games (and in the past a third update).
So I wonder if Legends is supposed to be just a single player experience or if they're hiding the normal trading and battling stuff for later. I mean, with this ancient time setting, it would make sense to be a more solo experience that doesn't have the level of communication among people that later times in this universe would have.

Missed out on Gen IV so I’ll gladly check out the remakes.

Missed out on Gen IV so I’ll gladly check out the remakes. I'm thinking for me it'll depend on how much if any Platinum they incorporate. The original Diamond & Pearl have a lot of memorable locations and lore, but suffer from some pretty horrendous type distribution (like if you don't pick Chimchar then literally the only available Fire type is Ponyta) and waaaay too much of it is just repeatedly returning to a massive cave named Mt. Coronet that takes up most of the region. Platinum helped iron out a lot of issues and added a lot of post-game stuff to it; didn't really fix the Mt. Coronet issue nor how that's the region that by far most overused HMs, but it had some nice improvements in other areas. Then there's this whole mechanic called the Underground that the fossils and Spiritomb are tied to that is just nightmarish to even get into.

Legends is a lot more intriguing to me than the Diamond and Pearl remakes. Also the fact it is not Shining Diamond bothers me greatly for some reason not sure why

I feel kind of mixed on Legends? I do appreciate that they're trying new things at least, it's just kind of that it's pretty much entirely new things that I'm not personally interested in. Open world tends to be a huge turnoff to me and action RPGs don't tend to go a lot better. For that matter never been a fan of the feudal aesthetic.
Granted I'd say the reason for the weird titling is that they're testing the waters on making this a spinoff series rather than it actually being something mainline, so that helps. I probably won't get it but at least I doubt that Gen 9 is going to be anything like this.

I think my overall thing, the more I look at past projects, is that I just plain wonder why a) they have to keep to the fast schedule they have with these games and b) why it feels like not enough money goes into them. I'm not saying any of their decisions wouldn't be happening if there was more support and time taken with them but it does feel like that The Pokemon Company short changes Game Freak a bit in terms of general game support.
I do at least appreciate that Legends is having more time taken to it rather than keeping to a rigid schedule because at the very least, more can be done and improved upon over the next few months rather than rushing to get a video out for July or rushing to get it out for October or whatever.

I'll get both most likely
I stopped playing these games a long time ago and want to say Ruby was my last one before getting Sword so if they want to remake them, fine by me

I do like their using the link awakening style graphic for the remake. Always thought that game had underrated graphic for the switch.

I love how Pokemon fans begged for a Pokemon game that looks like Breath of the Wild and now are complaining because it looks like Breath of the Wild.

Getting both on day 1. Diamond and Pearl came out in an important time in my life and I loved those games so yeah I'm in. The last Pokemon game I was interested in was X/Y but I loved Diamond/Pearl more than it. It'll be fun. Legends is something brand new so that in itself has me interested.
