Just read a preview article on IGN and the awful new experience share is IN. So, I am officially OUT. I never understood the hate for exp share, personally I don't miss needing to grind for 2 hours everytime I caught a new mon just to get it on par with the team. Plus what I do to alleviate over leveling is a rotation of pokemon that allows for more diversity then youd get during the pre exp share gens. If there is something to complain about with the remake is that they decided to bring back 1 time only TMs For real. The older I'm getting, the less free time I have so exp share is awesome for me. Didn't they have an option to form it off in the most recent gen?

Having to actually build whole teams for the situation was something I really enjoyed. I just don’t get the rationale about not having the option to turn it off. It legitimately has ruined the game for me.

Yeah that's understandable it wouldn't be difficult for Gamefreak to have that option but as we all know Gamefreak loves to add a feature just to remove it to never be seen again. RIP X&Y giving you that option

I just don’t get the rationale about not having the option to turn it off. It legitimately has ruined the game for me. Yeah that's understandable it wouldn't be difficult for Gamefreak to have that option but as we all know Gamefreak loves to add a feature just to remove it to never be seen again. RIP X&Y giving you that option Part of the problem, I always notice, is the games always seem to have the budget of a mid-tier studio (which is becoming more and more rare as console development is more expensive) but the marketing and merchandise budget is literally massive. This is because Gamefreak isn't a Nintendo-owned property and merely produces most of the games (though not this one), while the marketing wing is from The Pokemon Company, which is Nintendo. I'm not defending Gamefreak here, but it's pretty clear that, at some point, you have to finally accept that's all your known for, and as much as they want the freedom to produce games for other consoles and PC, those games aren't going to pay the bills. And I hate saying that because I'd rather have multiple successful IPs from a studio than a studio being forced to churn the same thing over and over again like at Activision or EA. This also affects their output on the Pokemon games, as while they seemed to have finally mastered the potential of 2D in the fifth generation, them being forced to move to 3D starting in the sixth generation has shown they are understaffed, underfunded, and even with both previous issues, don't quite get the mechanics of how 3D gameplay works. So, the whole snafu about them not putting in the whole Pokedex in Sword & Shield (and ultimately leaving out over 200 Pokemon after DLC) was a hot topic issue, but I believe it was them finally confronting an inevitability that other monster battling franchises dealt with in their own ways, some solving the problem decades prior. Of course, rather than confront that, the decision was instead to try and throw gimmick after gimmick at the problem in the hopes of delaying the inevitable, which only further called attention to all these abandoned features. Mega Evolution was meant to eliminate the need to give evolutionary lines to Pokemon they didn't want to give any to, like Pinsir, but it instead made already powerful creatures in the game even more OP, like Gengar and Garchomp. Gigantimaxing was meant to be similar to Mega Evolution but nerf some of those powers, but all it did was favor Generation I entries besides the newcomers, with the exception of Garbodor. Some people assumed that, if they were reducing the entries, they would prioritize animations, yet instead of improving animations or creating enough animations so Pokemon don't punch when you use a kick-based attack or vice versa or merely flip backwards and shuffle when during something like Tail Whip, the idea was "let's do more Signature Moves" (aka moves that belong to Pokemon for a time before they're added to the general pool in a few generations), not to mention all they did was really import the models from the 3DS engine and upscaled them. I am going on an tangent because if these are their solutions to fundamental problems, then what hope do we have for them adding quality of life improvements or, say, having a mode similar to Black 2/White 2's key system from the start where you could challenge right away for extra difficulty, play normally, or have an Easy Mode that's designed for people that may actually be starting out (so... you have to beat the game in order to unlock an easier challenge)? This all coming from an idiot that's definitely going to buy one of these games because he was upset one of his favorite Pokemon wasn't available in Sword & Shield and wants that experience.

Level Grinding sucks, no matter the game.
Yeah, I said it.

have they said anything about version exclusive pokemon yet? I assume it's gonna follow the original format with the Platinum additions exclusive to the Underground.

The argument isn't really over whether or not level grinding sucks. Yeah, I pretty much never turned the option off in Gens 6 and 7 myself and I probably wouldn't now. The problem is mandating it when plenty of people would turn it off given the option. Literally nothing is hurt by making it optional except Gamefreak's decided this is the way everyone is going to play the game so deal with it and it's representative of the broader trend of infantilizing games that were already always easy because they seem to be terrified of anyone ever having the slightest bit of difficulty with anything.
Anyway I haven't decided if I'm buying BDSP or not. Arceus is a definite no, but BDSP does feel like it fixes a lot of the little hangups that make Sinnoh one of the worse regions while it doesn't seem like they're actually adding anything of substance on top of that nor even all of the improvements Platinum had. Don't know why Gamefreak seems to think 20 year later remakes need to be worse than year later ones but it doesn't exactly make me hyped for whenever they make it back to Unova given all of the cool shit from BW2 they're not going to bother to include.

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} The Zorua line is getting a new form, it's now Ice type Actually Normal / Ghost. Wonder if they make the mainline games at some point if they'll keep the same ability, that'd go from bordering on useless to crazy good with that typing.
