Ok I consider Ric Flair the best wrestler of all time, but I can see the whole "How dare you put Kenny Omega anywhere near him" crowd start to cite things that aren't 100% factual.
I'm old enough to have seen 100's of his matches and seen him live. So....
Flair's Ring Work: Many people felt he did the same match over and over again. I'm talking other wrestlers. I loved it, but let's not pretend he was Bret Hart. He just understood psychology as well as anyone.
Flair's believability: Many people mocked his flip into the corner and walk then fall as completely unbelievable.
Mainstream knowledge: There was a time when people didn't know who Ric Flair was. They knew who Hulk Hogan was, but Flair wasn't on MTV or in commercials, or in interviews on ESPN.
Drawing power: I saw Ric Flair as World Champion with less people in the crowd then the 15% of full capacity allowed into Daily's Place.
Like, it's ok to compare Kenny Omega to Ric Flair, and it's ok to point out why he's not, but let's not play that Ric Flair was this infallible God who didn't have his own warts, because I went to enough live shows and watched enough TV tapings to tell you otherwise.

People often hype something so much through history that the Myth becomes more than the man itself. While I clearly havent watched as many flair matches as some people, I feel I watched enough to say Kenny Omega is better in-ring than Flair ,especially because Omega seems to thrive in any kind of match. Sure Flair very likely didnt have interest in branching off what worked and if he wanted to mix up he could.

Thank you. All I was saying was that Kenny Omega, the modern darling, the best bout machine, the wrestler that a good many will say is the best in the world at the moment, looks like he nipped a bit of inspiration (or at least Tony Khan did) from Ric Flair, who is almost universally lauded as the best to ever do it. I thought it'd be a fun little way to point out that what's old is new again with just a fresh coat of paint. In no way did I say Omega is trying to be Flair, although I guess saying "He's the modern day Flair" might ruffle some feathers. Didn't realize it'd cause so much vitriol. Jeez.

Whatever we wanna call what he's doing, it's working. I've been a major fan since his rise to popularity in 2016 and yet his current title run has me wanting to see him get destroyed and marking out when he gets beat up with how much of a scumbag he is, so he's doing something right. Can't say I agree that he's not good on the mic either, his mic skills in NJPW were what made me a fan of his to begin with because of how much he stood out.
Honestly, while it's totally fair to not be a fan of his, there are absolutely some people that will cling on to any excuse they can to hate him, no matter what the case is. Just look at the whole Chasyn Rance thing a few years ago where people tried to accuse him of "being friends with a pedo" even after he confirmed he didn't know the guy long-term, disowned ever working with him again, and apologised and offered refunds to anyone offended by it. There's a weird air around the Elite, particularly Kenny and Cody, that has people acting like every breath they take is terrible and they're garbage.

Thats what happens when you challenge the status quo. As the saying go " The Nail that stands out gets hammered down". The Elite made their fame by being claiming to be well, the elite, they di things their own way ,which is not the " right" way and want to keep changing the game. That alone would make some people want to see then fail and then they rub it into their faces
