Well, I just spent way too much time reading up on Anaheim Ducks trademarks. The team owns the original Wild Wing face logo for pretty much every imaginable use, they also own Wild Wing as a sports mascot but I didn’t see anything about them having any marketing rights for Wild Wing.
However, diving down the rabbit hole of Disney trademarks seems pretty daunting so I don’t know if I’m gonna be able to confirm what Mighty Ducks related trademarks they own. But I think it’s safe to say they retained control of marketing Wild Wing due to the animated series.
God, I have too much time on my hands right now

Yeah, they needed Disney’s permission to do the throwback jerseys a season or two ago. Is Wild Wing still around? His face is their logo in this movie. Hardly ever watch Anaheim games anymore but I’m fairly certain Wild Wing is still the mascot. Are you talking about the throwback jersey based on the original 3rd jersey? The one with Wild Wing flying through the air holding a hockey stick? No, but now that you mentioned it, that too. They wore their original jerseys here a year or so ago.

So, if anybody cares, episode two dropped today. {Spoiler}I really liked the scene where they raided the Lost and Found to steal their equipment. That felt like something genuinely out of a 90's Kids Sports movie. Otherwise...
Look, I really want to like this show. But the Mom is so annoying and, for a six episode season, it's just taking too long to get anywhere interesting. Hopefully things will pick up next week, but for now I'm underwhelmed.

Everything else isn't really uninteresting, BUT it can be once they address how Gordon got to this point.

I get why he stopped coaching and what they’re referencing and it’s a kids show, so it can’t be too insane but they could have picked something a tad more....I don’t know what. {Spoiler}Gordon was asked to quietly resign because he violated recruitment rules by giving a kid money!!!!!! To buy stick tape. Which runs about $5. Not sure why the college is forcing players to buy f***ing stick tape but here we are.

{Spoiler}Things look like they're finally starting to pick up in the third episode, and hopefully now the kids can move past "completely pathetic" territory stuff they've been doing and more into "plucky underdog" that makes this kind of series work. Was not expecting Winnie to get a sub-plot, it's not unappreciated. Also appreciate Jan getting name dropped.
The biggest problem though are the Moms are still just really annoying and I do not care for there pseudo-rivalry in the slightest. And based on the preview for the next episode, that's only getting worse.

It's the NCAA, they don't give a shit about the athletes, and they and the schools just see dollar signs.

{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}I feel like they unnecessarily altered/retconned the time line and plot for Gordon's story. They make it sound like he quit the Ducks then turned pro. No he finished the season then went pro and got hurt. Back then the Ducks weren't an organization. Also no mention of the goodwill games title and job AFTER he turned pro and got hurt. He has plenty to show for his hockey life despite the college firing. Mayve I'm overthinking, but I hate it when franchises alter timelines.

{Spoiler}They certainly knew how to make the jerkass Ducks coach into a bigger jerk with him getting mad at his players for surrendering a single despite winning a blowout.

The teams are certainly providing tape to their players.
I know of the NCAA it’s issues but I think what they used, while probably could happen, was just kind of lame

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}They certainly knew how to make the jerkass Ducks coach into a bigger jerk with him getting mad at his players for surrendering a single despite winning a blowout. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}To be fair, Coach Reilly did that to the Hawks in the first movie, even though it was a shutout. He berated the team, "That was a lousy third period, anybody can beat these pansies!"
Also, Gordon mentioning that his donating money to a player was not only an NCAA violation, but a violation of state law. He used to be a lawyer, and should have known that, or known to exploit loopholes. And now I'm probably going to go down the rabbit hole of researching Minnesota state law on amateurism in college sports.
That also fits in with his character, and explains his bitterness while also keeping him sympathetic. We were speculating that he did some unethical Rick Pitino-like bribery; he just tried to do the right thing in helping out a struggling player, and got screwed over by the system.

Watched the latest episode - {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}So after complaining that the Mom's are the most annoying and least interesting thing in the first three episodes, what does this episode give us? MORE MOMS! The Don't Bothers finally get something resembling a real win? IT'S THE MOM'S WIN! Hey look, Gordon finally gets off his ass and starts coaching again? IT'S FOR THE MOMS!. WHY IS THIS SHOW FOCUSING SO MUCH ON THE MOMS? WHO GIVES A CRAP ABOUT THE MOMS? Older fans who are looking to re-visit a cherished memory from their youth don't care about the Moms. Younger fans who are experiencing The Mighty Ducks for the first time don't care about the Moms. And I really doubt that Disney is gonna find a breakthrough to that cherished 35-50 year old middle aged Mom demographic through The Mighty Ducks of all things. Why give so much focus to them?
Good or bad, I'm here to the bitter end of the season for this, but man, they are not making this easy. There feels like there's a good show (or more likely 90 minute movie) buried in this crap somewhere, but it's being lost because the producers of the show, for some unfathomable reason, think the target audience of the franchise is the Gilmore Girls crowd.

{Spoiler}I’m starting to think Bombay only coaches hockey just to bang moms.
Also, there is no “over the line!!!!!” rule in the hardest shot. Especially when you’re posted up at the blue line for no reason and the net is at the top of the circles.

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}The "over the line" thing was likely just the Ducks coach being even more of a dick, with the husband of Lauren Graham's rival egging him on. Bombay even pretty much acknowledges that it was a farce.
That said, we're like four episodes in, and would be nice to see the kids team playing hockey and seeing them start winning, now that all the pieces seem to be in place.

So basically they made sort of a Cobra Kai about the Mighty Ducks?
If for no other reason, I'm interested just because it's been so long since Emilio Estevez was in anything.

Wouldn't really go that far. Cobra Kai ties into the original franchise beautifully and doesn't forget any lose ends. A lot of the story in the Mighty Ducks is kind of twisted around and really just has Bombay and the Ducks name in common with the old series.

It wants to be Cobra Kai. It's not really doing a very good job of it.

If it was really riffing on Cobra Kai, the protagonist would likely be one of the “bad guy” players from the Hawks of the first movie.

Episode 1: A customer at a fast food restaraunt orders a cheeseburger. Customer: Sir, I ordered no pickles Employee: Ok, let me take care of it. (Employee then touches his burger and eats the pickles.) Customer: What did you do? Employee: ...My Job!...

The player who injured Banks was named McGill, and was kind of the Dutch of the Hawks. Another kid, Larson, was the one who checked on Banks after the hit, and was more like Bobby Brown (although it was the former who carried out Bobby's role). Would love to see them make an appearance. When they did the team intros in the second episode, we did see that the Hawks are still around, though probably not the powerhouse they used to be. I haven't seen this week's episode yet, but am hoping we see what they turned into. I also have a theory that the current Ducks coach is a relative of Jack Reilly.
