Wrestling writers hating Meltzer is funny. People will rate matches based on your opinion one day Sam, I’m sure of it. I don’t know why ANYONE hates Meltzer. Especially us fans who have no dog in the fight. Wrestlers seem to hate the guy a lot too considering it’d be pretty easy to ignore. Log off Twitter. Your life is actually good lol I see so many fans, like even literally know some, whose entire wrestling fandom nowadays is like "lol dave meltzer said this i hate dave meltzer dave meltzer dave melzter, people would like [aspect of wrestling, company, style, whatever] more if dave meltzer didnt approve of it, melzter meltzer meltzer meltzer" and I'm just like " I don't pay attention to him I don't get why you care so much every f***ing thing this dude you hate says". It seems like it really heated up with Bruce's podcast, and then eventually a bunch of the podcasters joined in on painting the dude as their top heel because even when doing a podcast they can't help working an angle. And then when Bruce went back to WWE they seemed to REALLY heat up on wrestlers being taught to hate dirt sheets. Like whatever my opinion of him is, it's not hard for me to not think about him at all so it's just baffling how much of a Thing he is for some people.

I think it’s just down to how he’s ended up as the de facto tastemaker of the industry. So much of pro wrestling is completely and utterly subjective, but with the whole star rating gimmick he’s ended up on that pedestal as THE journalist to seek out. Think of what kind of influence that holds. Look at all the people who sought out New Japan because of all those five and six star matches from Okada, Omega, Tanahashi, Ibushi, etc. It helped create enough demand for New Japan to try their luck with a US territory, and eventually put Omega right at the forefront of WWE’s biggest competitor in 20 years.

And, ironically, a lot of his haters/detractors are helping put him on that exact pedestal.

Like, gimme some more juicy stuff to talk about. Where's the "Vince McMahon things this bad thing about this wrestler" headlines? Where's this "I heard this guy is gonna get pushed soon and he's trash" headlines? I wanna see that rather than Wrestler vs Journalist XXXIV main event. We’re doing our best. Within five minutes we had that thread about him liking Piper Niven spun as though it is a bad thing. c'mon man, tell me you weren't having visions of a dog in a smart hat sat at a table with a cup of coffee when you heard it

Meltzer detractors put more stock and thought into Metlzer's opinions and match ratings--at least on average--than Meltzer 'fans' do. The actual degree to which people even are 'fans' of him is weirdly overblown, on a similar note. The number of actual defenses of Metzler I've seen on his actual missteps and failings are very few, it's usually people who take on some ludicrous "Meltzer should be a banned source on the forum, he always lies and knowingly lies" stance and decide that if you disagree with that, you're a fanboy. It's a weird fight where one of the sides doesn't even really exist.

This shit is ridiculous. I honestly dread whenever Meltzer is brought up anymore because this tribalism in trying to destroy him gets to absurdly unhealthy levels. I think people have been outright banned here over it, and the fact there are still people who would willingly tank their reputations over hating Meltzer still on this board absolutely baffles me. Like did Dave Meltzer ramble for 20 minutes about nothing and then run over your dog?? This shit isn't worth it.
Zelina came off petty with her initial post. Drumming up bullshit with Dave cements my opinion on this. I hope she got a good deal and is happy with her decision... but she has come off like a complete hypocritical tool here. And the whole spiral into Meltzer tribalism she created in doing so doesnt help her case either. I swear wrestlers who work for WWE get a raise when they do it. Comes off like complete corporate ass kissing BS.
I knew this would get stupid and toxic when Zelina made her first non-specific dirtsheet post. Meltzer was correct in calling it out. She took it further and now it's just a giant wad of shit. Zelina needs to stop digging a hole for herself and people really REALLY need to stop letting Dave Meltzer live rent free in their heads... it's so unhealthy.

See, I never just did things just to do them. Come on, what am I gonna do? Just all of a sudden turn up at the Performance Centre and re-sign with the WWE like it's something to do? Come on. I got a little more sense then that... Yeah, I remember turning up at the Performance Centre and re-signing with the WWE.

It's a weird fight where one of the sides doesn't even really exist. Further to this, there's a lot of talk about him not being held accountable enough when he says stupid things he says, usually from people who jump at the chance to "hold him accountable" and absolutely rake him over the coals over what are usually fairly trivial missteps, and when he does seriously f*** up (like the Bruce Mitchell interview) he's pretty much universally criticised. Like people who complain about "cancel culture", more people complain about Meltzer being given a free pass than there are people who actually give him a free pass when he says something silly, if anything it's the opposite and there are people who gleefully blow everything he says vastly out of proportion so they can attack him because of their silly personal vendetta against him largely rooted in him having wrong opinions about adults pretending to fight.
And I shouldn't care that much because I'm pretty ambivalent to his opinions. But actually, discussing wrestling online has pretty much been ruined for me because the mere mention of his name sparks all manner of ridiculous behaviour. I used to post semi-regularly on r/SquaredCircle on Reddit, and have all but stopped now largely because of a sizeable contingent of tiresome nerds whose purpose as a wrestling fan is to piss and complain and start fights with people (and are allowed to, but that's a discussion for another day) because Dave Meltzer is an awful awful bastard who is mean about wrestling they like. And I've just had enough, wrestling discussion online has always been pretty toxic for some reason but it feels nastier now than it was before because of people acting like children, and sometimes it just isn't fun anymore.
Rant over.

Yeah, I think what we've seen in this thread is really the core of the issue; the idea of "I don't like him so I hope petty shit is his undoing" ignores big recent missteps of his that don't get anywhere near as much attention. It's like hearing Bill Cosby got released from jail and going "man I don't know why he was there but he should go back" because some annoying guy in high school kept quoting the Family Guy bit with Bill Cosby rambling about Pokemon and he dated the girl you liked. The Bruce Mitchell situation wasn't even just criticized on public forums; the F4W boards ripped him a new asshole over it. That's an entire forum of people who pay Dave Meltzer money every month to listen to him speak, and even they were just "Nope wow this is f***ed", and I feel like that gets overlooked by some people who want to act like he's the god king of smarks.

Hey if Zelina got a better deal for herself and she is happy good on her. Much like the issue Charlotte took with Meltzer a few months ago I feel that some people get mad at Dave over things that just aren't worth getting mad about in that he doesn't badmouth them but they don't like what he says. Much ado about nothing. One thing the last few years have taught me is that pro wrestlers have the thinnest skin.

On one hand it can be used to generate buzz and opportunities to positively further storylines/characters or charities. On the other it shows the real person rather than what we see on TV (and even with social media the real person can also be a facade). Alot of talent should review their decisions and maybe play it safe and just promote whatever show they're doing and that's it.

a sizeable contingent of tiresome nerds whose purpose as a wrestling fan is to piss and complain and start fights with people (and are allowed to, but that's a discussion for another day) because Dave Meltzer is an awful awful bastard who is mean about wrestling they like. And the weird thing is that Meltzer is nowhere near as critical of WWE as Alvarez - he's flat out said he grades them on a curve, usually gives their matches good ratings and defends even the most baffling booking decisions with some variation of "well they've done it before so it makes sense they'd do it again" (with a whole bunch of added "y'know"s, rambling, and a smoke detector beeping in the background). So it's a sizeable contingent of tiresome nerds who piss and complain and start fights because Meltzer doesn't like WWE as much as they think he should, which is even more pathetic.

A lot do, as someone else pointed out what I find funny is people like Alvarez will rant and rave about the product and actually say th4 characters look like idiots or geeks but they won't go after him. I dunno if it's cause Bryan will go right back at someone or if it's cause Dave is just that hated by management... and yes it's all an act to get on management's good grace. Bruce Pritchard is a huge critic of Meltzer. Indy wrestlers would die for Meltz to talk about them
