For the street racing films: First one is fun, 2nd is alright, 3rd is awful, not seen 4th or 5th.
The 6-8 films are high octane action heist films with barely any similarity to the first three films. They are fun though.

First one is decent. Second one was is entertaining for how garbage it is. 3 is a waste of time. I either missed 4 or it was boring, I liked the one where they’re in Rio(5?) 6-8 are wholly unrealistic but highly entertaining to me.

I completely dismissed them until my friend convinced me to see 5 just because The Rock was in it. I have never been happier to be wrong it was great fun and an excellent action movie. The sequels have also been enjoyable if not quite as good as the 5th film.
The first 4 are just ok imo. I do have a soft spot for Tokyo Drift just because of how awful it is.

Can’t believe I’ve watched them all lol but I’d suggest it. But if you’re not invested in the characters by the first film...I don’t know what to tell you lol.
The series does radically shift at Fast 5 and becomes stupid fun.

The movies have gradually become worse and worse....they are no longer movies but video games because there are no stakes and there is none more evidence than the "big reveal" they give away in the FF9 trailer.
But hey....family.

They become hard to distinguish after FAST FIVE. You forget the plots

The later ones are good as sit down and unplug your brain type films.

I have only seen Fast 5 all the way through, thought I did catch a good part of the 4th midway through and enjoyed it through to the end. They were not thought-provoking masterpieces by any means, but they were very fun all the same.

Also, ignore continuity between 5&6

They don't pretend to be anything other than ridiculous popcorn flicks. I know going in that I'm going to see some shit the defies common sense and physics and I love it. Put that nonsense right into my veins

The only one I've seen is Tokyo Drift, so practically all I know about the F&F movies is what I've seen in the trailers. And judging by those trailers, I felt like the description I once heard of the franchise - "the Avengers but with cars instead of superpowers" - seemed pretty accurate.
But then a few years ago, I saw the trailer for that spinoff with the Rock and Jason Statham's characters and it looks like Idris Elba actually does have superpowers or his own Iron Man suit or something like that. So if this franchise was ever on the rails, it has long since derailed and its cast and crew are actively setting off fireworks around said derailment.

Was thinking I would wait until they eventually make their way on a Turner Classic Movies marathon 20 years from now, but in the off chance I want to binge this series, is it worth it? Thanks to Collider.com for the info. Don't forget they aren't released in order. If you want to watch in order of release: *The Fast and the Furious (2001) *2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) *The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006) *Fast & Furious (2009) *Fast Five (2011) *Fast & Furious 6 (2013) *Furious 7 (2015) *The Fate of the Furious (2017) *Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019) *F9 (2021) Or you can watch in chronological order: *The Fast and the Furious (2001) *2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) *Fast and Furious (2009) *Fast Five (2011) *Fast & Furious 6 (2013) *The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006) *Furious 7 (2015) *The Fate of the Furious (2017) *Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019) {Spoiler}It's actually pretty unclear when exactly this spinoff film takes place. It's completely safe to say Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw team up here sometime after becoming bros in The Fate of the Furious, but there's some compelling evidence—like the terrorist Brixton (Idris Elba) saying he was nearly killed "eight years ago" in 2014—that places it in 2022, which might also mean Hobbs & Shaw happens after the upcoming F9.

People talk about how it was the fifth one when things "got worse" (some people's words) and it's "not about racing anymore" when racing wasn't even part of the plot (except for Tokyo Drift), these are some scenes from before the fifth film that were pretty ridiculous.
Part 1.
Part 2.
Part 3.
Part 4.

I saw the first one and thought it was a decent crime movie. Saw the 2nd and thought it sucked. Then didn't see any others until I was dragged to go and see one of the recent ones--might be 7, and thought it was the 2nd biggest piles of garbage I've seen at the cinema since one of the Transformers movies.
It was awful, and I'm baffled why people find them entertaining.

Personally, I wouldn't make a jump from five movies to that point, but that's just me. It'd be like playing Saints Row IV without playing the previous games because Saints Row IV was when it became even more ridiculous than its predecessors.

I saw the first one when it was originally in theaters and didn't like it much.
A couple years ago, I binge watched them over a week or so and had a good time.
Its fun how the first 4 movies are kind of their own thing, but then part 5 brings it all together.
Haven't seen Hobbs and Shaw yet or F9 but am doing another marathon catch up sometime soon.
Just know that part 3 (Tokyo Drift) takes place in the future in between the end of part 6 and the post credits scene of part 6. However, story wise and vibe wise, you should watch them in order anyway. Just be aware when watching 4-6 that 3 didn't happen yet.

I have seen I think like 4 of them? But I just added them all to my Youtube TV library and am going to finally watch all of them before the new ones come out. I have seen bits and pieces just whenever its on and it seems like big dumb fun.

They’re total shit, but fun. And once they go completely off the rails around 5, they become insanely fun movies but dumb as absolute f***.
But, they also became insanely self aware how ridiculous the movies were getting so they ran with it hardcore and that’s what makes it great
