I went to bed reading that Ronaldo to City was virtually a done deal. I wake up to this.

I’m surprised a transfer can actually happen that fast considering how long and drawn out most transfers are. Harry Kane is probably crying reading about this.

I’m surprised a transfer can actually happen that fast considering how long and drawn out most transfers are. Harry Kane is probably crying reading about this. This one is a little different, though. Juventus desperately want Ronaldo off their payroll and are essentially asking for the buying club to pay off the final installment of the fee they owe Real Madrid for signing him in the first place plus any intangibles they owe Ronaldo himself. That's been common knowledge for the past few days, and probably known to agents and clubs for at least a week at this point. Couple that with Ronaldo apparently personally breaking off negotiations with City once United's interest became firm, and things undoubtedly went much more smoothly than usual. It's actually kinda hard to believe. https://www.instagram.com/p/CTFZ1YKqd3W

Hilarious reading Twitter, 24 hours ago everyone was ready to hand over the title to City once they announced Ronaldo. Now he's signed for United he's past it and nowhere near as good as he once was.
He's Home!

Ronaldo is still good for a couple of years, and shirt sales will also make the deal worthwhile.

He's Home! Lots of salt in the blue half of Manchester today. 36 or not, Ronaldo's still a player who routinely scores 30+ goals per season, and the benefits the likes of Greenwood and Rashford can get learning directly from him will be immense.

Attack-wise, I don’t think anybody can touch United now.
Having Ronaldo, Greenwood, Sancho, Bruno, Cavani, Pogba and Martial at your disposal with Rashford coming back in a couple of months is a frightening proposition and that’s to say nothing of Lingard and James being around, too.
If Varane can gel with Maguire, that’s the best central defence United has had since Rio and Vidic. Add those two to Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw, maybe the best LB in the world right now, and that’s a formidable back four.
But here comes the “but”:
McTominay is injured, which means you are stuck playing one or both of Matic or Fred and neither is a starter on a team that is challenging for trophies. Matic has clearly lost a step at 33 and Fred’s passing just isn’t at the level it needs to be for a team of this calibre. Unless there’s a reinforcement by Tuesday, you’re likely going to push Pogba back into a more defensive role that he simply isn’t suited for and is a waste of what he can bring.
It’s ludicrous to me to bring in Ronaldo, Sancho and Varane in the same window, but fail to shore up your biggest need at the same time.
My other area of concern right now is RB. Williams is out on loan and it seems that Dalot is either going out on loan or being sold outright. So who’s your cover for AWB in that case? Phil Jones? Bringing in Trippier makes sense, but not at an exorbitant fee.

Bringing in Trippier makes sense, but not at an exorbitant fee. I don't often agree with Roy Keane's assessments, but I think even McTominay, who is our best defensive midfielder, isn't a first-choice player in a trophy-challenging team. He'll run all day long and is a great squad player, but he's not in the same class as the likes of Kante, Jorginho, Fabinho, Rodri, or Ndidi. I suspect Lindelöf will be the deputy at RB if Dalot is allowed to leave. It's the position he started his career in, and he's played there a handful of times for United already. I'd absolutely prefer Trippier if he were available at a reasonable price, but it makes sense that if Lindelöf's playing time at CB will be limited then his versitility should be utilised.

Why United haven't pulled up a truck loaded with cash to the King Power for Ndidi, I'll never know. Every time I see him play I think he'd sort so many issues in one fell swoop. Still, this is definitely the most exciting United squad there's been in seasons.

With all the craziness that has gone on in this transfer window it's worth remembering that no club in the world has spent more money than Arsenal.

Hideous. Absolutely hideous performance today. Second string defence is an embarrassment.

The MetroStars went winless for 19 straight games back in 1999.
Houston is making a case for that record, as they failed to win for the 15th time last night. Somehow, though, they aren't the worst team in MLS.

If Adama Traoré had a consistent end product he'd be a world beater.

I try to keep my punditry intake to a minimum, but holy hell, Paul Ince and Tim Sherwood are out of their minds.
