It's not like the SNES-64 era where he disappeared for over a decade. Luigi often gets involved of the lion's share of Mario games.
He'll get some big moments and screentime in the movie

Admittedly, probably unfair to go just by trailer alone, but this feels like they're going to cram far too much of the franchise into a movie and it's coming across as rather... patchy? Didn't seem like anything really clicked into being and just felt like it'll be a greatest hits compilation rather than an actual movie.

Pratt continues to be the worst casting choice this movie. Edit: Having watched the Japanese trailer, it is nigh cruelly unfair how much better everyone fits their characters. Like almost as if getting voice actors instead of random celebrities to do an animated work fits better(not to say the English version lacks proper voice actors, even some of the big name actors, like Jack Black, are legit voice actors these days). But christ. Like Miyano clearly gives a shit and sounds like he is having fun. Pratt sounds so…bored. “Wa-hoo! Whatever the hell. Next line.” I would not blame Pratt, neccesarily, he’s established himself as a voice actor in both LEGO movies and Onward. F anything it sounds like he’s trying to bring subtlety to a role that doesn’t really call for it. I wonder if they didn’t want him to be too much like Emmett when that’s exactly what he should be doing.

I didn’t see anything wrong with it.
Illumination is like junk food compared to the main Disney studio or the best of Pixar, Ghibli or even high end Dreamworks. They make decent kid targeted movies that don’t usually have as much for older audiences or deeper themes (Sing, Minions, etc). So I’m not expecting anything god tier but at something more cohesive than Mario 93 (which is funny and entertaining just watching Bob Hoskins try to maintain sanity).
Pratt isn’t exactly wowing me as Mario, but I’m neither part of his hatedom or any kind of stan for him. He sounds just kinda “there”, everyone else seems more lively.

I thought Peach's voice was more off than Mario.
But all fine for what this is.

I'm wondering what even the point of Luigi is when Mario is also apparently a bumbling idiot weirdo in this movie.

I like Chris Pratt in some stuff like GotG, LEGO Movie, and the first Jurassic World, but he is such an awful choice for Mario from what we've heard of it so far. Everyone else sounds pretty good, but Pratt's Mario just sounds like Chris Pratt.

Everyone else sounds pretty good, but Pratt's Mario just sounds like Chris Pratt. I get why they didn't want to go all "Mama Mia, Let's-A Go, Ravioli Ravioli give me the formuoli" but yeah. It just really feels lack in in any passion to feel like Mario. Hell, Bob Hoskins hated the 1993 movie so much he'd just drink on set but even he felt true to a Brooklyn Mario.

That would make for a good premise for the sequel and it could be as simple as: After being bested by Mario Brothers at the end of the film, Bowser reaches out into the multiverse for his own version of the Bros to counter them (IE: Wario and Waluigi)

I desperately want the end of this movie to either be, 1), Mario goes home, collapses into bed, and finds himself in Super Mario Bros. 2, or 2), Daisy shows up out of nowhere and tells them she needs their help and then there's never a sequel.

Everyone else sounds pretty good, but Pratt's Mario just sounds like Chris Pratt. I think the reason he worked so well in The Lego Movie is that he was supposed to be a bland, interchangeable everyman who the plot happens around (and even kinda the same with GOTG, although with a bit more of a personality he's still the everyman character who reacts to all the crazy things). It's the exact inverse of being a colourful beloved character with a distinctive voice.
