I'd say both videos back up your points. A full movie of that voice would be too much.

I'd say both videos back up your points. A full movie of that voice would be too much. Going from personal experience, it can be done with careful writing and direction. Charles is a great actor who's more than capable of playing Mario in the more "grounded" way needed to carry a feature length animation and to hit low key emotional beats. Mickey Mouse starred in several animated features for home video between the 90s and 2000s. The situation's not the exact same, but I've no reason to believe Charles as Mario can't carry a feature film without getting annoying. That said, I still expected celebrity casting to happen here. We're so used to it and Pratt has proven with The Lego Movie that he can do animation well. I'm just really really glad Charles is still in it in some capacity and will likely earn a lot more from it than he'll make from several games combined.

I think it's more likely that listening to Martinet's version for an entire 90 minutes might actually qualify as a form of torture. Eh, to me it'd just be Mickey Mouse with an accent. Meanwhile, this made me chuckle (and it's semi-related) Though if I were to pick a Ganondorf voice it would be Keith DavidKeith David as Ganondorf is something I didn't know I wanted, but here we are.

I'm not knocking Charles' talent, and I'm absolutely sure he could carry the movie if he'd been given the chance. I just feel like the people saying he should be playing Mario want that Italian caricature from the games and would probably complain bitterly about not getting it if - as you say - he were to give a more nuanced performance designed to work in a feature-length environment.

Tony Todd might be a good fit. Especially if he goes full on Candyman with his voice and lines.

So, this is going to just go the same way Sonic did, huh?
The trailer's gonna come out, everyone will hate it, then the director will put out an "aw shucks" apology and then they'll do it the way it should've been done in the first place.

Honestly two hours of the standard Mario voice sounds like it'd drive a man to kill anyway.

If Pratt does a Brooklyn accent, ala Captain Lou, I would be fine.

I'm Italian-American. Pretty much all of the Italians I know find the "It's a me" accent offensive in some way. The older set (my dad, for example) considers it an utter mockery of their heritage. The younger crowd aren't thrilled, but can deal. We'd be perfectly fine if it disappeared forever.
The accent isn't going to make the cut, period. Doesn't matter how pissed off the internet gets. Stereotypes are a no-go.

I don't know why Mario and Luigi even had the mamma mia that's-a-spicy-meat-a-ball accent anyway. The brothers are supposed to be from Brooklyn. They should be saying things like "Hey I'm walkin hea!" and "Ey Yoshi, where's my f***in stromboli?!"
Basically, they should sound like Taz on commentary.

I don't think that was ever Nintendo official, just used in the old cartoons and the live action movie. Especially in a post-Yoshi's Island world given the story of that game.

Rumors going around that the plot of the movie may be leaked. Seemingly backed up by some of the sources being removed via copyright.

Yeah I think Mario never talked in a game until SM64. Unless you count...THE CD-I GAME.

Hold up...
Chris Pratt will fit. He'll just do the nondescript, non-Prime Peter Cullen voice for Mario from Saturday Supercade!

I'm wondering if Wario will be in this film. I'm kind of getting bored of Bowser and/or Kong as the go-to Mario villains (and Tatanga is too obscure to use, and Wart technically isnt even a Mario villain).
