Because part of me doesn't see Punk sticking around for a long time. If I were to guess, I'd say Punk's status will be something in the vein of what Edge has in WWE. A set number of matches and appearances that won't interfere with his other projects. But even with that, I just have this feeling, given the nature of Phil Brooks, that this isn't going to be a super long run in AEW itself.

PWInsider, which is close to Punk, says he's expected to work 10-15 matches a year. To put that in perspective, MJF works about 10 matches a year (I don't remember if it was last year total or this year so far). I think as long as they do right by him and he enjoys the talent he works with I could see him around for a year or two. I don't think he'll be 47-48 working unless he's really enjoying it.

One year. Punk may just want his wrestling career to end on a better note than it did in WWE.

I believe MJF will be working in his 9th match of the year on Wednesday. For Punk I think he has a put a 3 year run in him before retirement. Think there’s too many fresh matchups to be done to finish up in a year.

Full time wrestling for a few years. Less than Danielson. Maybe about three. AEW usually signs talent to three year deals.
He can then shift to part time work. Managing. Commentating. Etc. He could work in AEW for years to come. Doesn't have to be all wrestling. He seemed to really love commentary and still loves doing it. I see him eventually shifting to that when he's done in ring.

That would give him five more years to wrestle realistically. Punk's only 42.

I could see a 3 year wrestling run and retire into a nice role

My point is he probably doesn’t want to put serious miles on his body but he does want to end things differently. Based on how he’s come across previously I don’t think he wants to be in the industry forever and has outside pursuits, but we’ll see. Three years does sound like a decent number but I will be curious to see if he wants to formally stay in the business after that.

I can see him wanting to work a few years on a 10-15 match schedule. That's basically a match a month or more where he can work at a brisk pace. A lot of new matchups in AEW for him. If you listened to Punk... that's what he craves in wrestling. Something new.

I say 3 years. Punk has many matches ahead, among them Allin, MJF, Omega, and QT Marshall.

I’m sure the length of his deal will come out before too long, officially or otherwise. Three years sounds right. It’s enough time for him to get in a lot of programs. And if he wants to retire and announce, that’s there for him.

I think he will be used more as a special attraction. Meaning his matches will be spread out. That might prolong his stay.

As others have said I see Punk being around 3 years. I personally can't imagine him wrestling on Dark though and think he will stick to special shows.
Which is the opposite of Daniel Bryan Danielson who I think will show up on Dark wrestling Lee Johnson and others because he just loves to wrestle.

Others things to consider are how much the WWE backstage environment and Punk's health during the last portion of his run there played into his disillusionment. By all accounts, Punk is in a lot better health, both physical and mental, these days and AEW's backstage environment is not nearly as toxic as WWE's. So that could get him to stay longer than people are expecting.

I say at least few years. I think Tony Khan will give him time off to film show or movie when he wants. So I dont think we will see him on tv 12 months per year. Unless he starts getting bigger movie roles. I think he will stay around for a few years. My guess his contract will be one year at a time though.

So long as their are no more Z-Paks and "dumb as f***" lunkheads who don't known how to properly toss someone, he should be fine.
