This whole tournament seems to have been cursed with what's happened to Naito and now Ibushi

Would you rather him keep going whilst injured? No, but I can say that I'm disappointed that this happened and it ends like this To be honest, you were coming off like you felt ripped off like this was their plan.

What a a weird f***ing tournament...
I also have very mixed feelings on Shibata's in ring return, but we'll have to see where it goes.

Seriously though, good for him. Should've used Terry Funk It'd be too messed up to use Terry given he's honestly not in great health, last we heard. Putting him in a casket for a meme would probably get regrettable pretty quickly.

Jesus. New Japan can not catch a break this year. I can not get over how much has gone wrong for them. I've joked about this before but they seem genuinely cursed.
A very mediocre G1. There were some great matches, but you could count them on one hand- and that's damning.
I'm totally burnt out on New Japan to be honest. In ring they can still be the best in the world but there is a staleness and this holding pattern feeling that is just exhausting to me right now. And I've never seen a company this affected by injuries in a one year span. It's incredible.
I aint giving up on them but yeesh. Time to take a step back personally (still gonna check out Strong weekly tho, that shit still slaps).

Now's the time to bring in new talent to freshen things up and fill the void. They cannot subside on sacks of crap like Yano and Jado
Zeus left All Japan I heard, bring him in.

A couple points, I share in the frustration of staleness going on with NJPW. I know they advance storylines through every match, and thats great, one of the reason I started following, but the never ending rotation of tag matches is being exposed as boring when there isn’t fresh talent. With travel restrictions it’s obviously not Gedo or NJPW’s fault, it just is what it is, and frankly its boring right now.
The G1….I mean what a heap of crap this year was. EVIL going more than 10 mins every time doing the same match will just kill your spirit. I liked Jeff Cobb getting some shine but once he got to 5-0 and you looked at the schedule you knew he was losing it the last day to Okada on a tie breaker. I legit thought Naito was supposed to win his block, still do, and they had to book on the fly after that. It looked like ZSJ was gonna get some prominence and yet we still got Ibushi. I understand that this is a Japanese promotion and Japanese talent will always be the focus but I personally would have loved a ZSJ/Okada final.
Speaking of final, an Ibushi/Okada match can be great…this just wasn’t it. Not for lack of effort, an injury is an injury and I can even appreciate the realism that New Japan strives for by having a major bout stopped due to injury. It just seems the perfect cherry on our shit sundae G1 this year.
ZSJ/Shibata was something I didn’t know I needed in my life, but I sure was left wanting more. I don’t need a Pure division because, again personally, I would get tired of it all the time. But as a unique stipulation busted out every once in awhile, it can be refreshing.
Its grim right now overall, but Im not going anywhere. This is a period we’ll all look back on as the Covid era, and will be a keynote in the timeline when we are celebrating New Japan’s resurgence in a couple years. STRONG is a fantastic product right now and will be the infusion the main roster needs when the two rosters can start crossing over more

So still halfway through catching up on the G1, heard about the Ibushi injury so quickly watched the injury and aftermath until Ibushi gets to the back.
Jesus, after such a difficult two years with the pandemic, and Ibushi's illness this year, what a sour taste to have to end with. There was no other call to be made and thank heavens we're in an age now where we can call off matches when someone is hurt rather than bullshitting our way through the stupid machismo must finish the match mentality. Seeing a maniac like Ibushi curled up in agony is seriously distressing, hopefully this will make Ibushi rethink how he wrestles from now on.
