First Naito goes down with a knee injury on the first day, and it ends with Ibushi suffering a serious injury in the final match. I swear, this G1 was cursed. 2 of their biggest talents out for the foreseeable future. Sure looks that way

Ibushi and Naito have beaten their bodies to hell over the past couple of years that I’m not surprised something like this eventually happened. They’re fantastic, but great enough not to rely on making their post wrestling careers so ache ridden.
Still some amazing wrestling in this G1, but lord I can’t wait for this Pandemic Era to be over.

Don't know how Shibata is gonna be competing unless he's wearing a padded helmet and iron face mask

Time for Okada to bring back the old belt and save New Japan from the curse of the "IWGP World Heavyweight Championship."

Okada actually mentioned that he should be awarded the old world title for winning the G1 instead of the briefcase as proof that he’s waiting for Ibushi to return and Shingo could challenge him for that belt. I don’t know what the hell Okada’s talking about.

That's if Gedo will actually sign talent, he's refused to sign or bring in any new talent for the past year I mean, I wouldn’t want or expect them to sign. GLEAT wrestlers have their own company they are signed to on deals and it’s a growing company I want to see get bigger. Good wrestlers, women’s division, great presentation etc, but guest wrestlers for tours, tournaments and shock title contention is something NJPW needs bad. It’s amazing to me Sekimoto was never a guest. Some of the best Okada matches were against Marufuji and the crowd dynamic was a spectacle You wouldn’t even have to bring in GLEAT’s younger stars if they don’t want them taking big losses. Guys like Kaz Hayashi would do just fine.

Naito is going to be moving like Mutoh does right now in 5 years.
Ibushi? Lord knows. He’s got to tone it down a lot if he wants to keep going at this level.

Yu Iizuka would blow NJPW fans’ minds lol

I don’t know what the hell Okada’s talking about. That was a very odd statement. He’s acting as if Ibushi was the real champ as he held the real belt but…..in kayfabe, it was Ibushi who merged the belts.

New Japan has been f***ing cursed since they changed the world title's design. They should frankly go back to the old belt before things get worse.

Could be his way of throwing shade on Will Ospreay's trying to claim he's the "real" champion, given Okada kayfabe has every reason to hate Will, since UE and CHAOS have been feuding, even if Will's had to sit out so much of the feud.

This G1 is super underrated already. Like if you took the twenty best matches and out them on a DVD set, it would be a fantastic collection. There was lots of great in-ring action this year, and a number of people stepped up beyond their calling.

There was lots of great in-ring action this year, and a number of people stepped up beyond their calling. Honestly, between Zack, Cobb, and O-Khan of all people, I feel like some of the matches really exceeded expectations, even if the finale is unfortunately marred by injury and Okada's win feeling a little too same-old.

I think it’s a bit wrong to dismiss the in ring action, like it was below what fans are used to and NOAH and Stardom blew it out of the water with their tournaments, but that doesn’t mean the wrestling was overall bad (outside of a few huge clunkers imo). I think most guys showed up and put on good stuff. I think the complaints about it are most about booking and who was in it.

A dislocated shoulder for Kota- poor guy. Isn't that what the debuting Young Lion suffered as well earlier this year? I don't know the timeframe for this kind of injury, but I hope he doesn't try to rush himself back for Wrestle Kingdom.
Number of matches per event to be looked at- surely an increase in number of matches per event is on the cards. Hopefully crowds being able to cheer (while still masked) and increased capacities won't be too far behind that.

www.njpw1972.com/106730Full English transcript of the presser. Look at this: So...it looks like that instead of getting the Wrestle Kingdom contract and briefcase, Okada is going to get the V4 version of the IWGP Heavyweight title, to represent the promise to Ibushi that they will have another match once he is back, as Ibushi was the last person to hold that belt... This is getting wild isn't it? Is Okada going to lift the curse on New Japan by bringing back the V4? And now with Ospreay also running around as 'the real world's champion' in the States we have...three world champions? Hmm, if only there was some three night event to maybe solve this conundrum somewhere down the line...
