Checking in on view counts Entrance: 1.4 Million Views Promo: 1.5 Million Views AEW: 315K Tweets CM Punk: 203K Tweets AEW and CM Punk are still in the top three overall trends of the world. Just wanna remind folks... Bryan Danielson hasn't even shown up yet like is being reported too... let alone who else might. And they did this on Rampage at 10PM. It's absolute insanity the madness that could still be yet to come... and god do I love it! This company as given me the love back for wrestling. WWE sure I watched it enough to keep up with what happening but comparing them its night and day. The crowds in AEW are more lively and into it. They don't have the same cookie cutter format that makes it so predictable. Than you have moments like this on top of it. From Jericho having his theme song without music to this, just let real emotions. No piped over BS.

I'm on my first holiday since the pandemic so I couldn't catch it live (I totally would have stayed up until 3 am if I was at home) but I watched it this morning and man, just chills. That was about as perfect as it could be. The crowd reaction, Punk's genuine emotions and happiness, his promo... Even how they dealt with Darby, by setting up the match without taking away from Punk's debut.
When pro-wrestling gets it right, it's amazing. I just like to see happy and nice things happen!

You might laugh, but it's true. The biggest pop I ever heard live was when I went to see Disney on Ice. When Olaf the snowman came out, every little kid in that building went absolutely nuclear. I've never seen anything like it. I said to my partner "If Elvis, Jesus & Dwayne Johnson all came out, they wouldn't get a reaction like this". CM Punk may have equalled Olaf. Damn, Elsa in Disneyland Paris makes Punk look like a Joke EVERY Night!

There’s a lot of Punk pictures with people going around but this one feel the most poetic just considering it wasn’t that long ago both of them hated the business for justifiable reasons and then came back when the opportunity arose. Tony with MLW and Punk now.

I've watched AEW mostly in clip form since it started. I haven't put a huge amount of time into it, and it's tough to follow time-wise from the UK. BUT - I think this is the moment for me to pitch in. This was incredible. I'm so happy to see him happy and back. The time that it's on is admittedly brutal, so you don't have to stay up late to watch it live. For example rampage is an only an hour long, but it starts right after smackdown which finishes at 3:00AM. Do it, but watch it through fitetv it's the best way to watch AEW for people in the UK. You will have to pay a small monthly fee to watch AEW Dynamite and AEW Rampage there but it's worth it. But PPV's aren't included,so you'll have to buy separately though. I find Punk to be somewhat overrated, but it was terrific seeing him out there. Only thing missing was a self aware joke on his UFC tenure. That will probably happen when he feuds with MJF. Lol.

The lines for his shirt in person were INSANE. I saw a dude walk back with shirts just as Punk was talking about ROH, so I ran up to get in line. Luckily I did, cuz at the end of the promo, the lines twisted back and forth multiple times and people were trying to talk front liners into buying them shirts. It was INSANE. I got two though, gonna mount one on my wall. The pop was INSANE in person. So glad I got to go.

Incredible moment. Punk genuinely looked like a dark cloud was finally lifted off of him, and it's nice to see him already getting to know everyone on the AEW roster backstage.

I loved hearing the crowd chant "F**k You Vince" during his promo

Hi from Tokyo.
I’ve been doing my best to isolate/distance for about 18 months because I work with kids and I’d literally rather die than spread the virus to my students and their families.
Seeing 20,000+ people being overwhelmingly happy was exactly what I needed. Like a weight was momentarily lifted.

I had to go back to watch the original pipebomb promo as well as the contract negotiation with Vince. Now, granted... it was in character. Granted, he was a heel. Granted, there was a major payoff and it was the peak of CM Punk in WWE. There's a lot different between that time and this time on a purely character level. But one thing that stuck out to me when he sat down during the pipebomb promo.... it sounded like he was legit gonna unleash all his frustrations and he was angry at everyone in eyeshot. Like he was an angry/disappointed parent ready to dress us all down.
When he sat down in the middle of the ring (First of all, never heard as big a pop for somebody, simply sitting down before lol) Last night, it just felt like he was openly sharing a story WITH us.
I've seen some very jaded people say Punks only bad for the payoff. And while I'm sure, he's got a damn good deal, it just feels like it's something more. Like, he finally has that chance to love wrestling again, and so far... you can tell he's just overwhelmed by that emotion for the first time in a long time.

That collective roar from the United Center crowd when that first riff of Cult of Personality is seriously up there with the massive pop for Stone Cold on the 1/4/99 episode of RAW in terms of massive crowd reactions on weekly wrestling TV.

Even if he makes one appearance and never appears again, it would be worth it just to see him looking healthy and happy

That Austin pop has long since been my “Gold Standard” for Wrestling Pops. To use a gimmick I often use in live threads…. *CM Punk has entered the chat* Just…goddamn MASSIVE on every level

The sustained pop Hogan got in Montreal in 2002 after WrestleMania X8 is also up there as one of the biggest. Triple H in Madison Square Garden, as well. And another Austin pop is him running in at Backlash 2000. I feel like those were bigger than the pop for Punk. Flair returning to Nitro in September 1998 also comes to mind as a potential contender.

Thinking more about this, I soured a ton on Punk after his UFC stint and the whole fiasco with Cabana, and I'm sure there's a few posts here in the archives that show it. Up until last night, he was probably up there in terms of wrestlers who I loved professionally but hated the off the field stuff, for lack of a better term.
But he really knocked it out of the park last night, and it really feels like he's in a much better place. Either that or he is legitimately the greatest actor I've ever seen in my life. Either way, I'm happy he's back and in a better place and can't wait to see how he performs.
