~ The idea MJF is a better performer because of how he doesn't break character isn't really special. Wow, he really nailed the character of *Checks notes* insufferable affluent jerk. That's a hard one to pull off...I guess?
~ I miss Shawn Spears' glove. Admittedly, the storyline ended with him getting his 'killer instinct' back and not needing it as a emotional support weapon but I really enjoyed the idea of people having multiple finishers and Shawn Spears having multiple weapon based cheats. "Oh, the ref took Spears' chair BUT THAT DAGGONE GLOVE WITH A RANDOM PIECE OF STEEL OR WHATEVER!"
~ Speaking of Swole/Diamante, Dark/Elevation feuds are good and give reasons to turn in to the free, available YouTube show and isn't an insult to the women's division or a move to shun them from main television. Swole/Diamante headlining Dark is a good thing.
~ I miss Twitch Miro.

I’ll start - I foresee Ruby Soho failing very soon. To me, her first few weeks are the prime example of a ‘honeymoon’ period. She’s getting pops, in my opinion, only because she was ‘miscast’ in WWE and probably deserved a better chance. I believe however that she has little to no charisma (having a different look does not equate charisma) - she never showed any hint of any in the WWE (plenty of misused/underused talent radiate charisma even though they aren’t constantly on TV - see Zelina Vega, etc.). Her promos so far have been very generic and bland in their delivery and in their message - rehearsed even. Granted she’ll probably not compare to her current opponent in this feud, but still - she isn’t bringing much to the table by way of microphone work. She’s got a good theme that will always get a pop - but like Robert Roode, while she’s in no way bad in the right - she’s very very bland IMO. Happy for the individual getting to receive adulation she probably never thought she’d ever get, but I don’t believe she is anywhere near the top of the division - Britt, Rosa, Kris Statlander, Hikari Shida, Jade Cargill, Nyla, Jamie Hayter and Tay Conti are all heads and shoulders above Ruby in my opinion. Now you go! So this is an interesting take because if you've never seen Ruby or how many people actually do seem to like her then you'd think she can slip through the cracks. But to me she has a very insane crossover appeal that could take the girls to the next level if they do it right. She's smooth in ring. Working off the rust but she's smooth. She has one of the most unique looks in wrestling. And she has an intangible crossover factor. I showed her to my friend who NEVER watches wrestling... and she wanted to immediately see more and more of her. Couldn't get enough. Because my friend looks very much like Ruby minus the tats. It was a connective element. I think there's much more there than just sympathy at her WWE run. I think she has a very infectious personality and connectivity that it's very hard to just "Get". Also her promo work is relatively unproven but I remember quite a few great Indie promos she did. But after years of basically never being allowed to cut promos in WWE... that rust also wouldn't shock me. She's really only had one promo in AEW so far. And she's against Britt where almost everyone is outmatched. Now. Of course I could be wrong too. She's had a grand total of three matches and her pops could die out. I think this is a valid concern. Though I also don't see her staying at the main event forefront if she loses to Baker. She will more than likely be used to help elevate the girls as well as herself in feuds that either do not require a title... or will eventually have other titles involved (Like tag titles). And frankly the girls just need more of that in general. If she can stay over and keep more girls in her orbit like Statlander and Riho? That's only gonna help get more girls TV time. So I'm really hoping she succeeds for that aspect too.

The specific brand of discourse AEW generates internet wide is generally depressing to me and makes me consider just watching it and not engaging online as much with the fanbase. :/ Edit: OK this got a lot of likes so it may not be unpopular so feel free to disregard here lol If you want uplifting news: This week the squared cricle reddit had a good number of happy posts about AEW and the enthusiasmy it community has and how it motivates then to watch. I'm gonna be try be more of a uplifing positive guy, just for you Chiral!

Strange to say after all-out but their ppvs should be better. There's only 4 a year so most of the card shouldn't be put together a few weeks beforehand, should be the culmination of more fueds.
Dynamite needs better pacing, too many long rambling promos, often back-to-back, matches that should be quick are too long and main events too short. Last week's being a perfect example. Some guys get far too much leeway on the mic, Jericho and MJF had many segments that should have been 5 minutes shorter. If they're segments like Bucks Vs Callis that are rendered pointless it's even worse.
The biting, eye attacks and other illegal actions in front of the ref are ridiculous.

Aubrey Edwards is a terrible referee.
I’ve no idea why she is this internet darling other than maybe she’s the first high profile female referee? Her theatricality is over the top 10/10, from her body language to her exaggerated gestures and reactions to the action she’s calling.
To me, the referee should be invisible unless actively necessary, and in her case, I find she’s always all over the place.
She - just like all other referees in the company - seemingly has no power, doesn’t enforce any of the rules except for the 5 count to release a hold (theatrically of course).

Tazz is so unbearably bad he literally ruins my enjoyment of AEW whe he's on commentary. The same also applied in WWE and clearly he's got no better since then.

The biting, eye attacks and other illegal actions in front of the ref are ridiculous. This, sadly, isn't just an AEW issue. I've been banging this drum for years. I'm not saying they all need to be Tommy Young shoving back at wrestlers, but give them authority to where they're not completely incompetent!

my unpopular opinions are that unpopular opinion threads are dumb and generally are asking for trouble >_> we’ve, so far, maintained an air of respectability with no one openly disrespecting another persons opinion. Other than your use of ‘dumb’ no one has yet to have a single pejorative thing to say about anyone or their opinions. You’re a mod - aren’t you supposed to help maintain that, instead of actively disrupting it?

Darby Allin comes across as a creepy weirdo with this 'worlds oldest teenager' shtick (perhaps not helped by him lying about his age irl for no good reason I can see) it may make for a good heel character I guess and the coffin drop ffs has no one learnt from the sad state of Hogan's back and that was just him landing on his arse from a much shorter distance, those ring mats ain't kind to that part of the skeleton.

So Aubrey always gets split into two camps among the wrestling community. Yours which is "She takes away from the match and shows too much personality/referees should just be invisible" and the other which is "I like her personality. I like her as a person. I like the attitude she brings to certain matches and relationships she has built with certain wrestlers (Like Jericho)" So it's absolutely just going to be a matter of preference. I like her but she's been a much less conventional referee. I don't even think it has a ton to do with the fact she's a woman and more just for the fact people like her. This same inflection and taste can be reflected in Bryce Remsburg as well. I've watched Bryce for over a decade so I'm used to his antics and I actually welcome them... but if you've never seen them? It can come across annoying or breaking away from certain traditions. When it comes to AEW refs being incredibly lenient this is also something that either annoys you because you want to see DQ's or you've been so burned by DQ's (And continue to be if you watch stuff like WWE) that you actively don't mind and like that the refs actually allow certain things to play out. DQ's are looked at as a pretty negative storyline tool in the company... but who knows if that will change when the storyline dictates for it or if referee discretion becomes too distracting to accept.

I've brought this up in another thread, but Taz going from heel manager spouting insults to goofy commentator singing along to Baltimora is ridiculous and needs to stop. Pick a persona and stick to it. It's too jarring. MJF has improved in the ring but needs to add to his 'only heat I can get is to insult' mic work to really become a perennial main eventer. Dynamite and Rampage's production is too breakneck. They need to allow segments to breathe a bit more.

I didn't dislike the Ogogo/Cody angle as much as a lot of people here did. Don't get me wrong, Cody's promo was hokey and WAY over the top for the relatively brief feud they had. I actually think Ogogo came out looking good for such an inexperienced Wrestler and I'm curious where he'd be right now if he wasn't injured.
I like Scorpio Sky more than most. In the ring he has great athleticism and charisma which was highlighted in the early days of Dynamite. I'm amused by the fact he sounds unconvincing in whatever he's saying either as a face or as a heel. He comes across like a guy who took ONE acting class and is out there winging it. This actually WORKS as a heel while teamed up with Page, they have a bizarre chemistry
Forgot one, I think they should have more short matches here and there on Dynamite. They only have 3 hours of tv a week, and I appreciate that they put on a lot of quality matches that go 10-15+ minutes, but that doesn't leave a lot of room for getting people on TV

I have no issue with the amount of women's matches on Dynamite. In my view, there shouldn't be a set number. It all depends on the stories you want to tell and the talent you have. And going based on the talent they have the ratio of men to women, 20% of the matches seems roughly right. I also think we make a lot of assumptions when it comes to Turner being involved in this based on one interview Omega did. I think AEW largely books the way they want to book and if Turner does get involved, it's probably only when they have sponsorship issues like they had with Domino's. I mean, SmackDown hasn't had a women's match in two weeks and I don't think Fox is behind it.
My main complaint is that if you're going to do one match, make it great. I get that you want to put a variety of talent on the show and you don't want to burn through all your matchups right away, but I think the weekly match making could improve. More Kris/Nyla and less Julia Hart/Thunder Rosa. Julia's getting better but that can take place on Dark and Elevation.

I hope this is a false feeling and I'm perfectly open to that being the case but I still want to say it: Something feels fairly racist about AEW and I just can't exactly put my finger on why. I just feel something wrong.
I'm not going to pretend like I know what the solution is yet because I'm still not convinced there's a problem.
