If Tony Khan gets Bret and Martha to mend fences, I truly believe there's nothing the dude can't do. Ah, I wasn't aware there were issues between them. I hope for the family's sake they can get things patched up. Bret went back to WWE in large part because he was paranoid about WWE having basically his entire legacy under their control, especially once they bought WCW, and Martha felt betrayed, and plus she already had bad blood with some of the Harts for basically undermining her during the lawsuit for their own personal gain. From what I recall from her Talk is Jericho appearance, she doesn't talk to any of the Harts currently, though her kids talk to Natalya, and I think that's basically it.

It’s also not like they haven’t respected legends before. They did that whole thing in Memphis where guys like Lanny Poffo and the Rock ‘n Roll Express were paid tribute to and they have about as much to do with AEW career wise as Owen did.

It's weird how I'm actually really hyped to have Owen in the game despite the fact I never play as legends.

I’m wondering what, if any footage, they’ll be able to use but this is awesome two-fold: First of all, f*** yeah a tournament. Second, Owen Hart continued to be honored! Plus probably more work and good through the Owen Hart Foundation. What a happy story.

This is awesome stuff. Everybody wins in this situation. The fans win because get to see Owen Hart properly honored. AEW wins because of the positive publicity that they're getting. The Owen Hart Foundation wins because they're going to get more exposure than ever before and more people should be helped as a result.
Very happy to see this news.

Im pleased to see Owen get some attention, but he has nothing to do with AEW. He obviously never worked there, never worked with anyone who is there, has absolutely no link to them in any way. It's cool, but it's the wrong company in as far as being able to really go all out. I mean...Martha's never going to be working in any way with the company he did mostly work for (for a very, very good reason) so... Yeah, true enough, better something over nothing. It's just a shame we can't get it as good as it could be. Totally understand why, just this highlights again how shit the whole situation is and was. It's a happy/sad feeling

They could probably talk to NJPW about sourcing some of that for a reel.

Footage-wise, I’d imagine his New Japan work would be the most likely to be used as I think Stampede’s library is owned by WWE. However, Bret does have some type of ownership rights over his own matches from Stampede so it may be possible any matches with Bret and Owen from Stampede could be fair game.

Kind of a weird thing out the blue since they have nothing to do with Owen but f*** it, it’s a way to honor his legacy and it seems his wife finds comfort in AEW or very least this is a big f** you to WWE
But Owen finally gets to have his memory honored

Amazing. I never thought something like this would happen. This is great for his fans and hopefully will mend some fences with his family and some of the wrestlers that considered him a friend/family. I’m wondering what, if any footage, they’ll be able to use but this is awesome two-fold: First of all, f*** yeah a tournament. Second, Owen Hart continued to be honored! Plus probably more work and good through the Owen Hart Foundation. What a happy story. There is some NJPW stuff I'd think they could get ahold of and Bret owns the Stampede footage that contains him so maybe there is something there to use?

This is cool. Could Bret make another appearance for them to award the first winner of the tournament? If Tony Khan gets Bret and Martha to mend fences, I truly believe there's nothing the dude can't do. Jericho might be able to lend a hand too. He got Benoit’s eldest son and Nancy Sullivan’s sister to reunite at the end of that Dark Side of the Ring episode. (Don’t think there was any real animosity between the two, just a huge sense of loss/awkwardness)

I'm honestly surprised that a company that Owen never wrestled for, let alone a company that didn't even exist when Owen wrestled is doing this for him, it is pretty awesome though

This is so great. I don't care about figures, video games or any merchandise except maybe a shirt but I know the foundation does great things for people in need and I'm sure this will help them greatly with more interest from fans. It also helps honor Owen's wrestling legacy and as mentioned, the company which was responsible for his death will not profit.
For AEW to get a partnership with the family 22 years after one of the biggest tragedies in all of wrestling, this is really something special and important. It's also a big turning point in wrestling, no matter if WWE stays around forever or not, it shows that kindness and honesty and respect of others, especially the legends is important to people, especially someone like Martha Hart who has stayed away from wrestling involvement for many years.

Excellent news.
As an action figure collector, I can't wait to finally see an Owen figure.

I need to sit down. This is tremendous that AEW has an opportunity to honor Owen and his legacy. It should also, if DSOTR didn’t already, dispell that Martha hates wrestling. She doesn’t, she hates that her husband and father of her family was taken from her. This is nice, but… Owen is not back. He can’t come back. So… I’m actually struggling with this a bit. And I can’t celebrate, no matter how heartfelt the honor or how respectful the intent. Happy but still sad. And the sadness does not pass even with time. I'm glad you turned around on this stance. I remember on our old podcast how much you hated Martha Hart. And good on AEW for breaking down the walls of a family that quite frankly has every right to hate the wrestling business. The business took away a father, brother, and husband over a stupid stunt that shpuldve never happened

Kind of strange, though I suppose furthering AEW's ambition to be the new JCP-like center of the wrestling universe.

The question in my mind would be what look would they use for the first toy?
I know AEW is working on a Stampede-era Jericho.
TNA did classic versions of Sting and Hogan.
What era do they go with? I'm partial to the "Black Hart" look. But I can see them going with the "King of Harts" look, since that's more recognizable for him.

I'm really glad Owen is being honored in this way. Regardless of where he spent the most time I'm happy he's being honored and the fact that this is a deal Martha and the family agrees to and is happy with is all that matters
