This should shut everybody up that says Martha hates wrestling. She doesn't hate wrestling, she hates the company whose negligence killed her husband. She's accepted honors from wrestling hall of fames, but understandably wants nothing to do with WWE. The only way that Martha would work with WWE, is if Vince sold the company. Otherwise, Owen in anything WWE won't happen. Im pleased to see Owen get some attention, but he has nothing to do with AEW. He obviously never worked there, never worked with anyone who is there, has absolutely no link to them in any way. It's cool, but it's the wrong company in as far as being able to really go all out. Mark Henry works there, and he was friends with Owen. Mark's been close to the Harts for years. I like it, Owen figures, Owen in video games, and a company paying tribute to Owen (who no doubt inspired a lot of guys in AEW). One thing on the Mark Henry front too is that Henry doesn't just work there, he's the guy taking point on community outreach and charity stuff. That makes for a pretty specific connection there to this.

Ah, I wasn't aware there were issues between them. I hope for the family's sake they can get things patched up. Bret went back to WWE in large part because he was paranoid about WWE having basically his entire legacy under their control, especially once they bought WCW, and Martha felt betrayed, and plus she already had bad blood with some of the Harts for basically undermining her during the lawsuit for their own personal gain. From what I recall from her Talk is Jericho appearance, she doesn't talk to any of the Harts currently, though her kids talk to Natalya, and I think that's basically it. I mean it was more than paranoia, the dvd was titled Screwed and had negative interviews with Hogan and Michaels. It was only after Vince reached out participating did the tone change. Otherwise it would have been another Self-Destruction of Ultimate Warrior.

After how bad I was feeling about wrestling over the Plane Ride episode, this really does renew my faith in the good things about wrestling. As big as a Punk or Bryan signing were, this to me is even bigger and better. So sad, Owen died under such awful circumstances but with him no longer being here, this is at least a way to honor him and help others and I hope we fans can help even in a small way.

I’m wondering what, if any footage, they’ll be able to use but this is awesome two-fold: First of all, f*** yeah a tournament. Second, Owen Hart continued to be honored! Plus probably more work and good through the Owen Hart Foundation. What a happy story. Owen did wrestle for NJPW a little, didn't he? They could probably talk to NJPW about sourcing some of that for a reel. Yep, he feuded with Liger over the Jr Title

I need to sit down. This is tremendous that AEW has an opportunity to honor Owen and his legacy. It should also, if DSOTR didn’t already, dispell that Martha hates wrestling. She doesn’t, she hates that her husband and father of her family was taken from her. This is nice, but… Owen is not back. He can’t come back. So… I’m actually struggling with this a bit. And I can’t celebrate, no matter how heartfelt the honor or how respectful the intent. Happy but still sad. And the sadness does not pass even with time. I'm glad you turned around on this stance. I remember on our old podcast how much you hated Martha Hart. And good on AEW for breaking down the walls of a family that quite frankly has every right to hate the wrestling business. The business took away a father, brother, and husband over a stupid stunt that shpuldve never happened I was wrong. And I can never pay fully the debt for being wrong. Martha lost something that day that we can only remotely fathom. And I listened only to Vince, feeling we were being robbed of remembering Owen the talent when she lost so much more. DSOTR finally woke me up and I can’t shake the guilt. At all. It’s why I’m not really… happy. Even with Martha’s blessing, even with helping the foundation, even with all that… Owen’s still gone. You can’t hug a trophy. Good intentions don’t help raise children. Yes, this is a good… but it doesn’t fill a hole. How I feel now anyway.

Considering the homerun they hit handling Brodie's death and legacy, Makes perfect sense. I love that all the good things are happening for the company. Karma. That's all I can say about it. In its 2 years of life AEW has been doing everything the right way, and only good things have been happening since. It's rare that we speak of Karma as a positive occurrence for people in wrestling but every once in a while it's nice to see.

You think you couldn't possibly love this company more and then they hit you with this.

It's also why he was apparently disappointed Martha couldn't or wouldn't fight to get Owen's footage, too, though obviously, that wasn't as much her priority.

I believe they were just immensely respectful of his, and his, family's privacy and just kept everything under wraps as it was the decent human thing to do. But with it playing a huge role in Punk and Danielson signing, I have to believe this played a role in having Martha say, "Okay, THIS is a company that cares for and respects their talent. I feel comfortable working with them." It's paying dividends. And like I say, I doubt it was strategically done to make these dividends pay off, it was just what everybody figured was right to do.... and that's what makes all these developments so much better. Because the intentions have been pure.

I was wrong. And I can never pay fully the debt for being wrong. Don't beat yourself up about. Love and caring and kindness will always find a way to win. It is winning now with this announcement and despite the time some of us disagree on this site (I've been called out on it too and deserve it), it is our love of wrestling and loving being fans that ultimately wins out on this board. Very true, the family lost something great they will never be able to get back. There's no real silver lining but if there's an amazing, saving grace it's that the foundation does give people with very little a chance they might not have had before. It may help rebuild someone's life they never thought would be rebuilt and it may help a family in ways no one could imagine. I'm sure Owen would be doing something like this if he had lived, no doubt in my mind and it is sad he's not here to see it. But again, don't beat yourself up. Use how you feel to affect a positive change in the world.

I can support this, but I just hope the intentions are pure on this one. I hope this is more about honoring Owen and not something that’s being fueled by a desire to mess with WWE. Granted the argument is very much there that they deserve it for this one.

Granted the argument is very much there that they deserve it for this one. That's an incredibly negative way of looking at this in my opinion. I think Tony Khan is just a huge wrestling geek , as we all are , and he wants to see Owen Hart celebrated in wrestling as he should be. Martha is never going to work with WWE and rightly so, so having AEW do this is a wonderful thing. Also to be blunt, to try and portray WWE as any kind of victims in this situation is ridiculous.

I don't think Martha would be doing this with AEW if they weren't anything but respectful in portraying Owen's legacy. Sticking it to WWE is probably a fringe benefit for both, but I think it's mostly about remembering Owen in a promotion with a large platform that also wasn't responsible for killing him.

I’m grateful that Owen can now be celebrated and remembered for being an amazing wrestler and not just for his death. And I totally have never and will never blame Martha for not wanting to work with WWE.
I’m wondering how much the handling of the death of Brodie Lee led to her decision to work with AEW. Because it seems like the way AEW handled that whole situation in a humane way, in many ways spread a lot of goodwill through out the industry.
