I have high hopes for the year. I already really like this Doctor and that’s about 75 percent of the battle for me. I have sat through some messy as hell Matt Smith episodes enjoying them anyway because I loved his Doctor.

Continuing the Doctor Who watch with my son, and we've made it to David Tennant's final specials. Just watched the Christmas one, The Next Doctor.
Up next is Planet of the Dead, The Waters of Mars, and The End of Time two parter.
David Tennant is definitely my Doctor, and I'm not ready for him to go again.

I loved everything there was about these two episodes. Kind of insanity I love about Doctor Who but feels fresh. Great chemistry between him and Ruby as well. Great stuff.

Space Babies reminded me of the unfunnier episodes of DAVE era Red Dwarf in regards to premise, the nature of the creature and the resolution with moving the station was your typical Davies cringe and it firmly puts this episode into the types of stories you play after binging Bluey. Devil's Chord was my pick of the two this week. {Spoiler}It wasn't great as a 'Beatles' story (they barely appear) and they couldn't use any licenced Beatles music, but the themes it explored regarding the significance of music were important to me, a lack of joy or a way to relieve or elevate and rise above your doldrums leads to a rise in self-destructive behaviour and ultimately world devastation. I thought Jynx Monsoon did a terrific job as The Maestro and that final battle showed The Doctor has his limits. I find it interesting Davies made no effort to have Paul and The Doctor make up for the argument in the cafeteria, but that's the power of RTD's human dramas, characters you feel sympathy for or take a shine to can be made into monsters and life's so messy that you don't always get second chances to amend

Space Babies might've been a bit too silly to take seriously. Not a bad episode but one i doubt i'll return to. The Devil's Chord however was brilliant. It was silly, fun but ballanced with the seriousness of the situation. The Maestro was a fun villian. The Doctor and Ruby have great chemistry together and Ncuti just brings an energy to his Doctor. Just couldn't take my eyes of him.
His reaction to Ruby asking to go see The Beatles i thought was great.

Man, filming with that many children must have been a nightmare.

Man, filming with that many children must have been a nightmare. Yep. Bet there was a lot of legit methane to go around for that ending... The behind-the-scenes documentary heaps a lot of praise on the infant playing Captain Poppy.

So, I feel like maybe they are setting up {Spoiler} that The Doctor is some sort of abstract being/personification of Time/eldest one and that he was the one who left Ruby. I also think she either is, or Anita Dobson is, Susan following them making a big deal about her in episode 2.

Space Babies was very close to the edge of being a bit too silly for me, but managed to stay the right side of it. Really enjoyed the Devil's Chord though.
I thought Ncuti was great throughout both episodes. I really like Ruby as a companion as well.

finally watching the christmas episode, after watching the tennant trilogy which were madness HOWEVER bit of a simpler story for ncuti to cut his teeth on with those little assholes and the cracks in ruby, carla and cherrys house REAPPEARING for no reason! (will their house make it to the end as now they have a TARDIS-shaped hole in their kitchen roof!) like the overall story of who brought ruby to the church, and the points in the first and future episodes that will tell that story. but the start of the episode was a bit awkward as they settled in. gatwas characterisation of the doctor is NOT as "energatic" as most others, but i'll get used to him being all SAD that gallifrey is GOOOOOOOOOONE ... bloody TARDIS is orphan central at the moment millie is doing fantastic already, but it's yer typical young female BLOODY PERKINESS, she needs a "cassandra moment" to bring that down missy and no a snot monster isn't that and then anita dobson mugging for the audience at the end if i was going to introduce doctor who to anyone new, this wouldn't be it, to me it's the WEAKEST nuwho beginning, but only seen the first of the series tonight, will get to the beatles tomorrow ... wasn't disappointed, and won't be stopping though, only because i don't know the guys acting ability ... or his silly dancing

I am enjoying Ruby and her interactions with the doctor. I wasn't completely sure about the doctor sporting a moustache as I don't like most moustaches, but he makes it work.

I thought Ncuti was great throughout both episodes. I really like Ruby as a companion as well. Yeah, definitely how I'm feeling. Strongest takeaway is the real fizz of chemistry between Ncuti and Millie. They were work great together. Needless to say, looking forward to next week, one of my two main hopes for the best story this season. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Also enjoyed the behind the scenes of The Devil's Chord, where Maestro's amazing magical powers are achieved by Jinx having to crawl in full outfit under a piano ("Best job in the world!"), get hoisted up in the air while wearing a big puffer jacket, and having a cable tied around their feet so they can be physically dragged across the floor. The glamour.
