(Warning: Some flashing/flickering imagery)
A new AS short. More of a trailer to gauge interest, but yeah, gimme more of this.

It actually grew on me really rapidly as it went on. If this is a proof of concept, it worked.

It's like a dark version of Crossover Nexus! Lets hope this goes beyond just this short. Also, anyone notice they were going through the world of Rocko's Modern Life at 1:54?

I'm assuming they'll need to get permission from the creators of some of the shows before this airs of course.

I’d say the fact it got this far onto the official YT might make that less of an issue in terms of agreements but then I don’t know how this stuff works in terms of contracts etc. Likely why some of the more prominent characters were the original ones so they could have an out if that was the case.

On the issue of trademarks and whatnot, Learning with Pibby and Learning with Pibby: Apocalypse were filed by Cartoon Network back in April so this has been in the works for a while.
EDIT: To clarify, I mean they filed the trademark in April 2020.

A lot of the stuff shown were owned by CN...
the only thing that I saw that wasn't was Spongebob's Bathroom, which they can likely get around as there's nothing there that specifically shows any Nickelodeon owned things.

Pretty sure CN owns their IPs or most of them. Craig McCraken basically stated they can do whatever they wanted with the Powerpuff Girls. So I'm pretty sure if Pibby is allowed to use these characters they wouldn't need express permission... though when it comes to voices and such I assume they will be asking for greater things depending on the show
This needs to be made though. This is one of the cooler animated concepts in a very long time. The support definitely needs to show up for this one!

In terms of the owned stuff, I do think there were likely cases where they asked permission just for politeness and not to come off like you’re just doing it. Besides the McCracken thing (and it could be argued he hasn’t worked at CN for decades now so it makes sense he wouldn’t have the same control), I’d say they likely got the ok from Ben Bocqualet, Gumball’s creator, because you don’t want to give that guy an excuse to jump ship after the movie’s done and want him leading a new show at the newly named Hanna Barbera Studios. But also, considering everything that’s happened with Warner Bros and AT&T in the last few years, the fact this entire thing even got to this stage at all and it seems officially approved by the company as a whole, that’s pretty crazy. It’s not blowing the water out in terms of views but it’s also done more than their last 3-4 videos combined so that seems like a good sign. It also does help that since it is a proof of concept trailer, it didn’t look expensive to do which likely helps get it past the craziness going on. As an aside, the funniest thing to me was that the last person to use #Pibby was someone whose dog was named Pibby. Even if that wasn’t the case since some point last year…imagine that person today.

There's also a shot in O-town from Rocko's Modern Life. I’d be shocked if the actual thing has anything as overt, a lot of it likely falls under the proof of concept it is. Now if this gets shown on Adult Swim tonight, that’ll be a different story.

In terms of view count, it’s hit around 873k in the space of 2 and a bit days so I’d be shocked if it wasn’t at around 1m at least by halfway through the week.
I couldn’t see it on trending but at one point it was #23 there so it’s getting traction.

To correct myself, when I meant “it’ll be close to 1m by Wednesday”, I meant “it’ll be an inch away from 1m by right this second and likely be closer to the Rick and Morty End credits scene videos by the end of the week by this rate”. My mistake. EDIT: Aaaaaand now it’s 1m.

Also helps that Cartoon Network has finally engaged in a full preschool lineup after years of either half-baked attempts or just not bothering, so there's an additional layer of subversive presentation to this kind of show, so you got a show that, in its original universe, was meant to be a run-of-the-mill show for Cartoonito (the aforementioned preschool block), but ends up exploring the kinds of subject matter you would find on Adult Swim, featuring shows that are or were on Cartoon Network's normal block or Boomerang. In other words, it goes through everything. I'm certain some people may find it a bit alarmist or even edgelord to depict these characters as eldritch creatures, but I think the concept is to examine both what it would be like as an absolute outsider to run into established franchises as well as being forced to grow up, one used as a fantasy narrative and the other as a real-life metaphor. Boy, I sure am talking a lot about this. However, with syndication as something that may likely run out soon as most of the shows they relied on now being owned by Disney, I think they need to start looking at shows they can run at with a TV-PG or a "soft" TV-14 rating around 8 to 10pm on weeknights.

Okay, that was hella clever. Hero’s easier to relate to then other AS “cute character in insane and violent setting” shows like Mr. Pickles.

In other words, it goes through everything. As another aside, considering I live somewhere where Cartoonito was a prominent thing for years, it was really strange the US took as long as they did to get their act together on it. Especially considering a lot of the shows were locally produced (the Fireman Sam reboot, as someone who watched the original as a kid, genuinely has no right to be as funny and charming as it is, just to throw my 2 cents out there). See, my first impression from the image was going to be something like that since a lot AS’s content besides Samurai Jack, Primal and now the Blade Runner anime, have relied on comedy and not really having a much wider narrative which is completely fine and nothing wrong with it but there was something about seeing Pibby trying to find hope regardless of the growing horrific circumstances that made me want to see her find her friend BunBun (who, from the leaked show bible, gets fully corrupted and spews out edgy comments, sort of fueling what you’re talking about, actually) and cure everyone. The other criticism I saw was about how we’re getting this influx of WB crossovers with different things and I get that, genuinely, but my personal mindset with this stuff is if we’re going to be living in a world with companies holding these big IPs, you should be taking different approaches to the characters you have. Not even something like this, Jellystone is a great example of what I mean. Even Space Ghost Coast to Coast resurrected a dormant HB superhero from the 60s and gave him new life for the 90s and that lead to AS being a thing in the first place.

I have a feeling that if this does get approved for a full series, they may have to change some things, because the proof of concept seems to give a lot away in terms of how it could unfold. I like how the only allies Pibby may have is a Robin-esque sidekick and the animated bad guy who looks like she's straight out of Cats Don't Dance.

I like how the only allies Pibby may have is a Robin-esque sidekick and the animated bad guy who looks like she's straight out of Cats Don't Dance. Funnily enough, in the leaked show bible that’s floating around, the cat is supposed to be like a Disney villain and not metaphorically, they literally call her a “Disney villain”. I mean, Disney obviously won’t be mentioned on the show itself but that’s how it’s been referenced. I was meant to reply to this early but also bumping this since it’ll likely hit 2m views by the end of today.
