Didn't we have people chanting the f slur at Cody during that tag match a few weeks ago, too? There's this really ugly undercurrent of chuds latching onto AEW kind of in spite of how the company has presented some of its things. They're here for the wrestling and think it's fun to be absoluite slime toward the stuff they don't like. AEW had better isolate these creepoids and start chucking them fast, before people start thinking this is okay to do and it begins to turn the crowd environment more hostile. I suspect there's a group of fans who vaguely remember their childhood Attitude Era stuff as perfection, and they blame the WWE sucking on it being all girly and gay and girly. So AEW being an alternative to the WWE means a very very different thing for them than it means to most of the rest of us.

So AEW being an alternative to the WWE means a very very different thing for them than it means to most of the rest of us. I don't know quite about "WWE is girly and gay", especially with the talent AEW trucks out. I think they're genuinely into AEW for its wrestling and as indie fans, and they're mad that these sorts of people are coming into that wrestling zone and even daring to talk about stuff sometimes. They're the indie wrestling equivalent of people who have Youtube channels being mad about feminists ruining Magic: The Gathering or how horror movies have become woke. They're the toxic gamer chuds but in wrestling form, and the sad fact is, they've always been here, like they've always been in a lot of fandoms, and they're becoming louder and more obnoxious because they feel threatened by the fact that this thing they like isn't exclusively about them anymore. They've left WWE behind and WWE doesn't pick up on it as much because they more have families and the disconnected chud nerds of the world have tuned out, but we did also have that incident where nXT house show loop creeps chanted "Happy ending" at Kairi, and the infamous "You suck Uso/Bryan/Cena" chant during a women's match a few years ago. AEW is on the right track with a lot of their presentiational stuff adn being very unabashed about their openness. That's good, that should continue. But it also needs to be ready to kick out these creeps, because being backed into a corner is going to make them angrier and louder before it makes them go away of their own volition.

Let's be honest, there was always a large subset of smarkdom that equated the PG rating with the decline of the product. There was always the undercurrent in Cena hatedom that his character's targeted appeal to women and actual children was somehow less valid than if he was pandering to arrested manchildren.
That group was always going to follow and latch onto AEW. I'd love to see a sharp rebuke against those sorts of attitudes, but frankly, there isn't much here that makes me think we're going to see that.

I usually read some really weird comments about wrestling and a PG rating. A rating doesn't make a good show, plus those buzzwords that those chuds like using such as "SJW" and "diversity" don't realize what company they support hahah

I grew up on LI, so I'm not surprised about that element in the crowd. It's the Confedercy with better pizza and bagels.

Noone here said it, though plenty of twitter replies did, so I'm just gonna. "Fans" who do this shit should be identified and banned from all future events. Period. There's no place for this in an ever more diverse wrestling scene. More and more professional wrestlers are queer in some way. There's no space for homophobes and transphobes, or racists, or sexists. AEW should make it clear that this shit isn't acceptable. They don't need to make a public statement (though I would appreciate it) saying so, but they absolutely should ban these sort of people from their events. despite how wrong it is you can't ban someone for something they say you know freedom of speech

Even if it weren't, there's legal recourse against stuff like this.

Yeah, unless the business is stupid enough to openly ban a person for being black or gay or something they can pretty much ban you for any other reason they want.

AEW is not the government. AEW is well within its rights to ban people for saying bigoted things.

Even stadiums with public/city ownership can throw your ass out to the curb for any reason they consider disruptive. The First Amendment is not absolute and never has been.

I know it's tempting to say "Long Island was a Bad Crowd" but the truth is, there's bad apples in every crowd and that shouldn't cause you to lose sight of the fact that Long Island as a whole is bad.

Right: end of the day, you cannot be arrested, tried, and incarcerated for your speech (well, wait...yes you can, but under very specific circumstances, i.e. the clear and present danger/direct incitement standards) by the government, but private entities can kick you out without a second thought. What can be tough, admittedly, is singling out someone in a crowd of thousands who's doing something that like, but it's certainly doable.

These people are total dicks, but do people really expect otherwise?
Literally every large crowd is going to have some assholes.
I feel bad for the fans around who were offended, but I hope these wrestlers are tough enough to take insults from drunken morons.

This kind of reaction always mystifies me, because it's agreeing the people are doing something wrong while utterly shifting any responsibility away from them and onto their targets.

They are completely at fault for acting like that. You're going out of your way to look for victim blaming where there isn't any. I'm afraid you'll have to do your crusading elsewhere.
