I'm disappointed that egg didn't lead to a "This way to the Egress" segment.

Wasn't Eva Marie advertised despite being suspended for a wellness violation before the match that wound up being Nikki Bella's surprise return?

Actually that one was axed because even Vince himself didn't know that HBK and Razor would go WAY over their allotted time during their ladder match so they literally had to scrap it on the fly.

What's makes it even more weird is that he worked that taping. They taped a lot of stuff for Prime Time Wrestling prior to Tuesday in Texas and one of the matches was Barbarian losing to the Berzerker by count out. Why advertise the match when you aren't going to it? It did seem they really liked booking Bret against the Barbarian for some reason. In 90-91 they worked two MSG shows, the Summerslam Spectacular, and a match that was taped for the Wrestlefest 92 Coliseum Video. They also worked each other a ton on house shows as they were programmed coming out of Wrestlemania VII as Bret's first feud as a singles to build him up for Perfect. Then were going to wrestle again at Tuesday in Texas before they changed their minds for some reason and had Bret against Skinner instead. I guess maybe they realized that Bret and Barbarian had been done too many times and decided to do something else. The most mind blowing part of that whole thing is that Barbarian wrestled Berzerker that night. A heel vs heel match in 91 WWF?! Bret vs barbarian is a feud that made sense at the time. Bret was viewed as a smaller guy so Vince probably thought Bret needed wins against much larger opponents to show that Bret could hang in the land of giants. It was also a more promising sign for Bret in that they were putting him against a guy he could go over on unlike his previous singles "pushes" in 88 and 89 when they put him against Bad News and Perfect respectively when those guys were both getting newcomer undefeated streak pushes designed to carry them to the main event picture so therefore there was no way Bret was going over either one of them. Best he could hope for was time limit draws. Funny thing is according to Bret they were going to program with Perfect again right out of Wrestlemania VII however he refused as was skeptical after his previous two aborted pushes and with Perfect having just won the IC title back he knew that if he was to get put in a feud with him at that point he wasn't going to win the title and was just going to be a sacrificial lamb with then the next guy to feud with him likely winning it instead as by that Perfect would've had it for a while. Instead they put Bulldog was put against Perfect where Bret's suspicions turned out to be true as Davey Boy never won the belt in that feud while Bret was put with the Barbarian and going over on him every night in the spring and early summer to build him up to facing Perfect whom he then won the belt from at Summerslam 1991. Bret says it was definitely a ballsy move on his part but it definitely ended up being the right decision.

Wow I had no idea they advertised that match at all. I just thought it was rumored they were planning in the dirtsheets. Sid hardly was on TV on all after King of the Ring. I think he beat Owen and then had a brief cameo in I think July in a segment where a bunch of faces came out to confront the Hart Foundation when they were doing a in ring talk segment.

That's one I never knew about or at least don't remember. I always thought Skinner was the intended opponent. Was there any word on why Barbarian was replaced? He was in the Rumble a few weeks later so he hadn't yet left WWF. A podcast I like did a special a few years back on Survivor Series matches that never happened, and if I recall correctly, Barbarian had left just before Survivor Series 91 due to a pay dispute, hence him being replaced on the main show itself with no explanation. They must have worked it out prior to Rumble 92. I'm currently rewatching the 1991 Superstars episodes on each of their 30th anniversaries and it's wild how during the Barbarian's match the commentary team don't put over or even mention Barbarian at all until the very, very end when they say he's facing Bret at Tuesday in Texas. It leads me to believe that they had to have known he wasn't with the company at the time (even briefly) as it's pretty surreal to hear them not even acknowledge there's a match going on for several minutes. Speaking of which, Skinner being Barbarian's substitute might have diminished his initial push. He was being hyped with vignettes and then essentially won his feud with Ricky Steamboat after The Dragon left the company before they could have a blowoff (Dragon was replasced by El Matador on the Survivor Series team) and was undefeated in singles matches going into Tuesday in Texas, only to have Bret beat him clean - including kicking out of both Skinner's finisher and being hit by his alligator claw. Match is still really good (it is '91 Bret after all) and Skinner's always been pretty underrated, but for a largely kayfabe audience it's hard to come back from a clean submission loss despite hitting a finisher and signature foreign object. EDIT: WOW, had no idea Barbarian worked that taping. Then why was he pulled from Survivor Series so abruptly? 1991 WWF is weird. I don't think they had Skinner pegged for much right from the start. I think he was always meant to be a good veteran hand with a gimmick who could put over babyfaces. I think he was doing jobs on TV like two months into his run which back then was very early for a newcomer who had vignettes to lose protection booking. He wasn't undefeated in any way going into the Tuesday in Texas despite Gorilla claiming he was ("for all intents and purposes Skinner undefeated in the World Wrestling Federation) as got pinned by Slaughter at Survivor Series and even in one and one competition he lost to El Matador at Survivor Series Showdown and even lost to Bret himself on a November episode of Prime Time. They put him into the feud with Steamboat very quickly like I think not even a month into his run and he was clearly going to coming out on the short end in that as Steamboat was going over on him in all their house show matches with the exception of the last one in which Skinner only one cause Steamboat had likely given his notice at that point. I think I read somewhere that Steamboat was going to quickly transition into a feud with Dibiase as I guess they were going to do some angle where Dibiase would offer him money I guess to forfeit a match against him and Stemaboat would blow his fire into the money. However after the Dragon quit El Matador basically took his spot as he took his place at Survivor Series and got the Dibiase feud instead.

Sid was also supposed to face Mankind at the May 97 In Your House PPV, but was pulled at the last second (They announced the change on the Free For All pre show) and replaced Sid with Rocky Miavia. (And a fun aside about that match: Foley immediately said afterwards to some people backstage that while Rocky was a nice kid and all he just didn't have what it took to make it in the business.)

I might be wrong but I didn't see it confirmed that the RK Bronament finals were getting moved until the actual show with an offhand comment from the announcers.

Small potatoes but Lashley and Rusev were advertised for the 2020 Rumble match right up to go time when the commentary went "Lashley and Rusev had a fight backstage so have been banned from the Rumble match". The crowd got Edge instead so weren't too upset.

R u sure about this? I remember them specifically announcing Rock vs Mick long before the show with them implying that Mick said he is going to beat up the new husband which was the Rock (he just got married the first time at this time.)

Yeah I think you may be right, I guess I just didn't watch or maybe forgot the episode of RAW/Superstars/Shotgun when they announced the change and personally didn't hear about it until the pre show.

Tully Blanchard was not only advertised at the beginning of Survivor Series 1989 (weeks after he was fired), but after intermission he was also advertised and his picture was still in the graphics!!! I was at that show as a child (my first ever live wrestling show), and we literally didn’t find out about Blanchard not being at the show until Howard Finkle announced Bobby Heenan as his replacement during the ring introductions.

Was this advertised before or after the brawl in Hartford? I think the match got canceled because Bret didn’t get cleared.
