I've always been a Taz fan. He is one of the best commentators for me and so underrated as a wrestler.

It was rough in the early days of Team Taz (Mox/Anthony from the 6/9/20 Dark gave me TNA flashbacks), but nowadays Taz is someone I really enjoy listening to. To say about his time in TNA, he has said previously that they were slow to pay him consistently (I know, TNA being late to pay people? I’m shocked!) so it’d explain why he half assed a lot there. If Bruce Prichard can be believed (yeah, I know, that's not often), TNA used to screw with Taz every year by paying him an extra month then calling to see if he'd give the extra pay back.

I think this is the best commentary Taz has ever done. He sounds real more than anything - like anybody he isn't trying to be a badass all the time, sometimes he is a goof. And he added a lot to that title match.
He is certainly never boring or redundant.

Is it weird to think that real-life Taz the happy, middle-aged father who's thrilled that his son is excelling and the audience loves him is mixing with Taz the heel commentator and he's just become sort of like your lovable grumpy uncle who could still choke you out?

I think Taz is doing a very good job on commentary. He isn't a traditional "heel announcer" because he puts over everybody face or heel. He does a good job of explaining the purpose of a move and why it's effective and he doesn't waste much time in doing so. He fits in well with the rest of the commentary team. and even when he's heeling it up he come out with "i don;t like the guy but that was a perfectly executed (whatever move just happened)" even if his guys are feuding with them at the moment.

I see Taz as the grumpy dad who said "absolutely no" to a dog, but when the family got one anyway Taz fell in love with it and all the family ever posts to Facebook anymore are cute pictures of the dog and Taz napping together.

He was so good last night. I loved the kayfabe job he did after he saw JR was returning next week and just went 'f*** it, I'm gone anyway' and committed to full heel during the main event.

Honestly the best thing about aew is people reacting to events in character rather than what's easy in a generic script.
Doesn't sound much but it makes such a difference.

A heel commentator who also puts talent over. What a concept.

Taz may be favorite commentator right now. Great analysis, heel work and comedy. I’ll laugh every time he says yam bag.

I’m kinda disappointed that JR is coming back in all honesty
I mean this as no disrespect to JR. The guy is a legend and yeah he’s lost a step (okay maybe more than one) but he’s still Jim bloody Ross but I’m loved Tazs commentary since he started on smackdown
Yeah once in a while it comes across as a bit try hardy but more often than not it’s hilarious, insightful and builds up the wrestler even if he hates the kayfabe wrestler

I think everyone can share that sentiment. But, I do much prefer Taz commentating and will miss him. I think it's beyond time to phase JR out of commentary and use him primarily as a talking head/sit-down interviewer. Nobody does the sit-down interview as well as JR does.

I think it's beyond time to phase JR out of commentary and use him primarily as a talking head/sit-down interviewer. Nobody does the sit-down interview as well as JR does. I've had similar sentiments. I had an idea where JR sort of had like a "Coach's corner" segment each week where he'd do a sit down with each talent, and do a sports-feel-kayfabe type of interview. Wouldn't work with ALL talent, but it'd help with a lot. Or a "past/present/future" type of thing where he'll favorably compare the current roster to legends of yesteryear. Sami to Eddie and the similarity of their styles, that kind of thing. "Darby Allin is a guy who at first looks like a simple brawler due to his daredevil style, like a Mick Foley, but underneath that is a competent amateur who's not afraid of going to the mat with the big boys", etc. JR is, in my opinion, the absolute best at getting someone over in segments like that. Back to Taz, though... my man is one of the few that really GETS how the Orange Cassidy character works. He's not trying to lose by doing what he does with the lazy shtick, he's trying to lull you into complacency and make you pay for it. He's beatable, but he's a wily and crafty technician and can go from 0-100 in less than a second, which makes him dangerous. Taz, despite being an "old-timer" understands the gimmick and immediately puts it over. Actually, as far as I can tell, he's never buried anyone despite being a heel commentator.

All this talk about Taz being a grumpy dad makes me really want at least a one-off appearance from Bill Alfonso as Hook’s “Uncle Fonzie”

I just love when he talks about geography and different areas. Like this week on Dark, he says someone asked why Eddie Kingston is angry all the time and he goes, "Because he's from Yonkers." And when they talked about the show from Bridgeport, talking how it's a nice city then laughing and ending with "but the arena's nice." I also remember when Excalibur asked him where the Andromeda Galaxy was (when Kris Statlander came out) and he said, "It's somewhere near Hauppaugue."

I love his rapport with Ricky Starks.
Taz saying he'd never taken a poisonrana: "And if I had to to go back in time, I still wouldn't!" Ricky: "I'd never want to be poisoned." Taz: "Or rana'd!"
