I made this thread a few years back but I'm just curious again. So now that another Christmas is out the way, how long do you wait to take your decorations down? I just moved into a new flat this year and made it all nice and pretty for Xmas.. I'm probably going to look at taking them down after the New Year.. Possibly on the 2nd, where they will go into the loft until next December (Or late November ). Fact that I work means it will be my best chance. I know that traditionally we are still in the festive Season until January 6th, So I guess that's normally the latest it is seen as ok to have them up.. After that they just look out of place. So how long do you wait?, assuming you had some to begin with.

Yeah, January 6th is VERY specific... Yes, the feast day of the Epiphany. Some people take down their decorations on that day, or on the day before the Epiphany ("12th Night") Some people even do the feast day of the presentation/Candlemas (Feb 2) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candlemas

Sadly it means...something else too. And we'll leave it at that. (Perhaps call it "the day of the Epiphany" instead of by its date?) As for me, it's after New Years' Day, within the week, usually.

I always take the stuff down during the first week of January, but never on New Years Day. Outside lights are all weather dependent. If winter is already set in and they are frozen, I'll leave it until a thaw, but I don't turn them on.

I'm Hardcore! I own only one X-mas decoration anyway, a small Cthulhu plush with a Santa hat, and it sits in a book shelf all year long.

Only thing I put up is a tree. Usually keep it up all year, but decided to put it away earlier this year and never put it back up.

I took them down the day after Christmas this year. COVID ruined our Christmas, so it was just depressing to look at them and to know how awful it turned out this year.

I'd probably leave the tree up all year if I had any say in assembling it, I'd just remove the decoration so it'd become just a regular tree ornament in the house, then put the decorations over it again in December.

I personally don’t decorate, but my mother’s rule has always been up on the first (Dec) and down on the first (Jan). Except for the outdoor lights, they just get turned off.

This year I pushed for buying RGB LED lights to hang around the living room instead of our normal ones.
Now I'm just leaving them up and changing the colors depending on the season.
Everything but the living room lights and tree we took down yesterday. We had a full day at home so it just seemed like a convenient thing to throw all the nicknacks back in the bin.
We'll probably do the tree next weekend.

I usually do general cleaning/organizing on Sundays, so first Sunday of January. Might be delayed to the second Sunday this year though, because I've been running behind in everything.

my family always had them up at the end of the first week of january and since it's just me in the house now
well, then then
mines was a little different to just having a tree, it was more a mini forest ... my neighbour next door loved it and even called ME a "genius" my sister loved it too

Usually after New Year’s Day.
Or you could be my late aunt, who had a 9 foot tall Christmas tree put up, and didn’t take it down for 5 years. Never touched any of the decorations or ornaments either. Heck, even that living room might kept all the snow globes up as well.
