21. Uncharted - Saw this in theaters. First and foremost, I am going to say that I went into this with an open mind. I didn't read reviews and decided not to listen to other people who complained about this film. So what I am going to do is give my personal take on it.
I would say that I was forgiving towards the changes made from its source material. I have played the games and enjoyed them. I also had read the comic book based on it, and that isn't considered canon to the games. Many people complained about the miscasting of Nathan Drake and Victor Sullivan, but after watching the movie, I took them as more of a different take as it was shown that these versions didn't have the same type of dynamic that the games' versions had, character-wise.
One thing that I will give this film is that it didn't try to bring in everyone from the games. Only a handful of characters were in this film. The rest were made for this film. Some of the action scenes were fun, although some of the editing made things a tad confusing.
I wouldn't call this the best video game adaptation, but I had a lot of fun with this one.

Scream (2022) - Scream is always going to be a franchise I'm excited for, I was 14 when I saw the first film and was a fan instantly, I've enjoyed the Scream sequels (with 3 being the weakest) so had hopes for this. I really enjoyed this, I liked some of the new characters introduced (I think it's a good sign when you want some characters to survive the bloodbath) though some where under developed, speaking of the characters I can't be the only one who thinks Jack Quaid looks a little like Joshua Jackson (who was in Scream 2). A knock is you could see the killers coming a mile off but it's doesn't detract from the film. I was pleased when a character from earlier in this series popped up (probably not who you think I'm referring too). I'd gladly watch Scream 6/Scream 2.0/Scream and Scream Again (***1/2)

This has some really cool visual storytelling moments and some powerful quotes that will stick with you but it didn’t quite grab me the way I wanted it to. [***]

15. Those Who Wish Me Dead
A boy and his dad are on the run from two men who are trying to kill them because…um…er…something that was really bad. I don’t know. I never heard them explain why. They all run to Montana and get caught in a forest fire with Angelina Jolie. Wait, what??? There were all sorts of plot holes and terrible judgement calls and the ending left all sorts of questions unanswered.

16. Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace
Son has asked if I will rewatch all the Star Wars movies with him. Started today with Phantom Menace. This movie could have been so much better. Start off by re-editing it to remove Jar Jar (who is the most useless, annoying, and unnecessary character in all the movies). That will cut the whole thing by half an hour which is a more watchable run time. I can actually wrap my head around the whole Federation/Republic/Palpatine storyline which made no sense when I first watched this. I really wish they had come up with a way to defeat the battleship other than the Steve Urkel solution (“Oops. Did I do that?”)

What worked and didn't in the first film returns in the sequel. Gru is great, the relationship with his kids is the heart, and the minions are fun. However, they just reach the point of being overused here and the romantic stuff doesn't fully click. [***]
#80 - Uncharted (Theater)

The actors don't actually feel like Nathan or Sully but I still really enjoyed this. It has formulaic action stuff, yet many of the sequences are fun and feel right out of the game. As a fan of the franchise, I had a great time with this and didn't go in expecting anything incredible. [***½]

Dodgeball: A True Underdog's Story (2004) - Any time I revisit a comedy from the early/mid 2000's which I enjoyed at the time, an whole bunch of times they just not as funny to me anymore, I think Dodgeball does buck the trend there for me, I still found a lot of it funny (there was some stuff I didn't find funny at the time anyway), the supporting cast like Stephen Root (always great), Rip Torn and Alan Tudyk add to this. The Lance Armstrong scene is funny now for completely different reasons - and if they ever made a sequel I think this scene could play into something there (***)

Watched The House (2022) on Netflix and Noroi: The Curse (2005) on Shudder last night. Definitely both unique and unsettling films.
Noroi seems like something that would lend itself exceptionally well to an American remake. Surprised no one has given it a shot.

22. First Daughter (2004) - Watched this on Hulu. I remember seeing very few bits and pieces of this film back in the mid-2000s, and one part in particular was when Katie Holmes and Amerie went to a frat pool party and then Secret Sevice agents tackled some guy with a water gun. But I had never watched it from start to finish. I also must add that I remembered that when it came out that Katie Holmes was was a bit too old to play roles of college freshmen. Not to get into logistics about starting college at any age, but when she was on Dawson's Creek, and one notable role of her playing a teen was in 1998's Disturbing Behavior, it was kind of weird.
As for the film itself, I know what I was getting into. I wouldn't say that this was the best romantic dramedy as many elements were predictable. However, Katie Holmes and Marc Blucas had decent, if good chemistry that it was believable. Michael Keaton never disappoints when he is on screen, and I felt the father and daughter dynamic between him and Holmes.
It wasn't great, but I wasn't bored with it.

I feel like this holds up so well over a decade later. It's not an old Disney case of a princess who immediately falls in love with a guy. We go on a journey with these characters as they fall for each other and both are likable so you roll with it. Throw in some good songs, beautiful animation, and a fantastic villain and you've got a winner. [****½]

6) "Die, Die, My Darling", 1965 British Hammer thriller starring legendary stage actress Tallulah Bankhead and Stephanie Powers. *snip*Not bad, 7 out of 10. 7) "Never Too Young To Die", 1986 American Action/Adventure film starring John Stamos. *snip*If you ever need to see a bad movie you can laugh at, this is a solid 9 out of 10. If you're looking for a GOOD movie, this is a 4. 8) "Creatures The World Forgot", 1971 British Hammer production about prehistoric man. Twin brothers split the tribe after their father, the tribe leader, dies. One's hatred for the other causes him and his tribe to try and hunt the others down. No dialogue, but not necessary. Not what you'd call an 'upbeat' movie, just a tale of survival, a war against nature and themselves. No fantastical prehistoric creatures (but a terrible 'guy-in-a-bear-suit'). OK but I don't think I'm ever going to want to see it again. 6 outta 10. 9) "The Two Faces of Doctor Jekyll", 1960 British Hammer production. Dr. Jekyll ignores his wife to work on his formula to 'explore the inner perfect being', which turns him into a charismatic, handsome character with no morals who takes the name Hyde. Jekyll's wife Kitty has already fallen in love with another, a slimy but likeable cad named Paul (played by Christopher Lee). Paul falls in with Hyde and shows him the seamier side of 1870's London, but it's not enough to satisfy Hyde. Hyde sets out to destroy Jekyll by breaking, burning, or killing those around him so Hyde can break free. Of course, being a mid-60's British film, Hyde gets his comeuppance in the end. Interesting idea about Hyde being charming while Jekyll is a bookish scientist... wonder if Jerry Lewis got the idea for "The Nutty Professor" from this? Very colourful movie, a lot of the story takes place in a bawdy entertainment palace called The Sphinx, with two entertaining dance numbers used to pad out the time and up the sex appeal. The down side is a flat performance by Paul Massie as Jekyll/Hyde. 6 out of 10. 10) "Holy Flame of the Martial World", 1983 Hong Kong martial arts fantasy adventure. Young man whose parents were killed by evil kung fu teachers after a magic sword seeks revenge, finds his sister (who was adopted by one of the evil kung fu teachers), discovers there were two swords that work together, make friends, fight evil, the end. Lots of action, fighting, lightning, ninjas, swordplay, an American mummy wrapped in green cloth, magic traps, crazy weapons, lots of fun. Inventive practical special effects. If you're OK with subtitles, a fun 8 out of 10.

As part of the 2022 Movie Challenge, I already posted one half of the challenge for today. This here is the second half. 23. First Daughter (1999 TV movie) - Watched this on DVD. This was my third time watching this, although I am not sure if I will mention my overall times that I had watched movies. Anyway, I had mentioned mentioned before that because this is a TV movie, don't expect anything too big. Hell, some of the visual effects were badly done, particularly some green screen effects that were too obvious. It was enough to make you chuckle at the bad visual effects. Mariel Hemingway was convincing as a badass Secret Service agent. I liked the chemistry between her and Doug Savant. Some of the action scenes were decent given its low budget. It's really not a bad way to pass 90 minutes.

I was ultimately pretty disappointed by this because I wanted it to be something great and instead what I got was just good. There are some really cool visuals here and I dug the basic idea but some bits of execution were off and left parts of the film lifeless. [***]

A step up from what I remember. While there are still a few issues, including one specific generic minor villain, this rules. There are good dramatic moments, the action delivers, and you continue to care about Caesar as a character the way you need to. [****½]
#84 - Friday The 13th (Hulu)
*1st Viewing
Been putting these off for a while but finally giving slasher franchises a chance. I've seen bits and pieces but want to check them all out if possible. I started with the original Friday the 13th and I must say that it's pretty boring. I think the first-person stuff is a cool idea and the twist of the villain being Jason's mother was a unique move. However, a lot of this is about building tension that never feels like it's truly there and it comes across as dull. [**½]

#85 - Rocky V (HBO Max)
*1st Viewing
Yeah, this feels like the low point of the franchise. There's a good idea in there about Rocky dealing with the effects of the Drago fight. However, it's mostly tossed aside for nothing of interest. There's dumb stuff like Rocky Jr. aging so much after one trip and their storyline of issues feeling forced. Tommy Gunn and George Washington Duke feel comically overdone. Most of this is also just dull. [*½]
#86 - The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (Showtime)
*1st Viewing
With this franchise being more readily available on streaming service, I moved to it and what a great call. This film is intense as the director never gives you a moment to breathe. Even the early scenes before Leatherface appears are filled with tension. The snuff film style is really well done. Some stuff looks a bit goofy by today's standards but there's a creepy, terrifying vibe to this that is timeless. [****½]

24. Dog (2022) - Saw this in theaters. After having watched the trailer multiple times on YouTube, it drew me to watching this film. The premise itself was promising, so I decided to check it out.
While this film was sold as a comedy, there was more drama in it than one would expect, especially if one had seen the trailers and TV spots. Because this movie's selling point is the road adventure and the bonding experience between its protagonists (and the titular dog is considered as such), it made for a fun and heartwarming story.
I noticed that Channing Tatum had a directorial credit for this film. Not sure what his style was, but if he had a hand in the direction, it worked. Plus, he was likable in this film, and some parts hit the feels as well. That's not to say that there were no funny moments, because there were, but it's not really the comedy the ads made it out to be.
Overall, it was a nice film.

This movie is absurd in the best possible way. If you can't appreciate the little dance Leatherface does several times with his chainsaw then we can't be friends. [***]
