52. Day Shift
Jamie Fox is a union vampire hunter in Los Angeles trying to make enough money to pay for his daughter’s braces. With a great supporting performance by Snoop Dogg. Bloody and violent and a whole lot of fun.

119. Impact Point (2008) - Watched this on DVD. This was my third time watching this movie. I'm just going to outright say it - it's not a good movie by any stretch of the imagination. But I do know this, I remember being enticed to watch it because I saw it on Amazon (the online store, not Prime Video) because I looked up a movie that had a volleyball theme, and this was under recommendations. Of course, the drawing factor was a hot woman in a bikini, so why not? Found it on Crackle one day and while it took a long time to watch it (thanks to ads and bad wi-fi connection), I suppose I liked it enough to buy the DVD off of eBay. I mean what was the harm, right?
But if I went back to this movie, there's got to be something that I liked about it. Well, all I can tell you is that this movie has the feel of an erotic thriller (with little-to-no eroticism) and a Lifetime movie, except with some swearing and some nudity. There are some entertaining factors about this movie. One, Melissa Keller and Kayla Ewell are easy on the eyes and it's never bad to see them bare those bodies in bikinis (though Melissa Keller bared a little more in some scenes). I also noticed some closeups on Melissa Keller's butt in some scenes, like during a foot chase scene. I was like "the camera man is certainly having fun here." Two, Brian Austin Green doing his best, or at the very least, hamming it up trying to play a psychopathic stalker. Yes, the same Brian Austin Green who was in Beverly Hills 90210 playing a psychopathic stalker/killer. He seemed like he was having fun playing it, but he didn't seem that convincing. I just found myself laughing when he tried to act scary. I also saw that there was a "will they or won't they?" tease between the main character and the detective assigned to the case, but the film didn't give any resolution to that subplot.
One thing I will give this film is that the actors did fine. Melissa Keller was trying as she played the main character and while her acting wasn't the best, I'll give her credit for trying. I also noticed that the extras on the DVD contained a bit where the two main actresses trained extensively for the volleyball scenes, even though I wonder if there were doubles used. I know that some professional beach volleyball players were hired for the climactic match, as well as one hired to play a teammate in one scene, but that was it.
Again, this is a movie that is by no means good, but I still enjoy it for some strange reason. I question the reason, but I find it enjoyable in some areas, whether it's the hot women or just seeing Brian Austin Green try to act sinister. Plus, it's a short film, so if someone could kill less than an hour and a half, you could probably do worse.

I liked this a lot more than I expected to. Angourie Rice continues to be good in everything I see her in and the story put some twists on the predictable formula to keep it fresh. [***½]

53. The Gray Man
Ryan Gosling is a CIA assassin who ticks off his bosses who send Chris Evans (with a terrible mustache) to hunt him down. Fistfights, shootouts, car chases and explosions ensue for two hours. It is a bit silly and over the top but quite fun.

120. The Magnificent Seven (1960) - Watched this on DVD. I had heard that this movie is considered a classic and is also regarded as one of the all-time best westerns. So I thought why not see for myself. Yes, I am aware of a few things. One, I know that this movie was remade in the mid-2010s, which while didn't do well at the box office, it was better than one would expect. Two, this film in and of itself is a remake as well, of a Japanese film called Seven Samurai (which I shall check out). I wasn't aware that there was a sequel, but I may have to see all of these films now.
Well, this film does live up to its reputation. I mean, sure, if I were to compare any other westerns, the ones that would come to mind are the "Man With No Name" films, but there are plenty of westerns and they all have their own styles to them. There's no doubt that the climactic shootout was epic for its time, and still is a well-shot action scene. However, most of the story talks about each of the characters and their own stories, as development occurs up until the big shootout.
Some of the development that occurs is making me want to watch it again soon because I feel that there are some underlying themes with each of the characters. But overall, I could see that this film is considered a classic. Now I'm curious about the other films, whether it's the 2016 film of the same name, Seven Samurai, and Return of the Magnificent Seven.

56. Popeye (?)So technically I'm not sure if I should count this as a movie. Heck, legally speaking I'm not even sure if I should admit that I've watched it. This is the animatic for the uncompleted and unreleased Genndy Tartakovsky directed Popeye animated movie that Sony had been producing on-and-off for the last decade and change that got leaked onto the internet a few weeks back. I'm not even sure what year to give it as the video's description says it was produced in both 2013 and 2016. And no, I'm not saying where I watched it, I'll just say it wasn't difficult to find. This is only an animatic, so it's difficult to tell what the animation would've looked like in the final product, but based on this it looks a lot more rubbery then you'd expect from a Popeye cartoon, more similar to something like Ren & Stimpy. I'm not sure who does the voices. Popeye at times almost sounds like someone doing a bad Spongebob impression, so I'm wondering if it maybe was Tom Kenny? Also Olive's voice seems to change about a third of the way through, from a more traditional screechy voice you'd expect from her to something a little softer and more realistic. I'm not sure if her VA decided to do something different or if she got a new one. The bulk of the story is Popeye, along with Eugene the Jeep and, eventually, Olive Oyl, trying to either retrieve or hold on to the Sea Hag's red jewel to use to find Popeye's Father. The thing is Popeye already knows (or at least suspects) where his Dad is, so I'm not entirely sure what he needs the jewel for beyond some side quests to pad out the run time. That said it is an incredibly fun adventure with some really imaginative sequences and some great character interaction. It's really a shame this never got completed and released.

37) "Escape To Athena", 1979 British action/adventure/comedy film. *snip*8 out of 10. 38) "When Eight Bells Toll", 1971 British adventure film. *snip*7 out of 10. 39) "Seven", 1979 American action film. Freelance agent hired by US government to kill seven crime lords in Hawaii, brings six professionals with him. Produced and directed by Andy Sidaris, better known for his series of action movies starring Playboy models shooting large guns called the "LETHAL Ladies" series. This movie fits perfectly into that genre. Lots of attractive models in various states of undress, a couple of gunfights, a chase, one kung fu fight scene, terrible dialogue, poorly written story, it's all there. There are a few veteran actors in the cast, most notably the lead William Smith, who appeared in around 300 movies and more television series, usually as the villain or a henchman, a biker or a mobster, with a few choice protagonist roles sprinkled throughout. A few others notables of note: Ed Parker (founder of American Kenpo Karate) as himself, Art Metrano (Police Academy 2 and 3), Reggie Nalder (Salem's Lot), Lenny Montana (The Godfather), Terry Kiser (Weekend At Bernie's), Barbara Leigh (first Vampirella model), Susan Kiger (Playmate), and famed bellydancer Little Egypt. It's filmed fine, but the script is... not good. The sequence of events is poorly laid out, poorly explained, and frankly poorly executed. It's a bad script. The dialogue in OK but you kind of get the feeling that people were told 'their motivations' and had to figure out how to convey it, and not all the actors are on the same level as William Smith or Art Metrano. It's still kind of fun, in an inept way. 6 out of 10.

The first half or so of this movie is a hot ass mess that makes little sense though I thought the hunt for the Predator down the stretch was better. Still, a disappointment of a film. [**]

57. The Wraith (1986)So lately I've kinda been wanting to hunt down old 80's movies that I only vaguely remember and honestly thought I hallucinated. I'm starting with this one, which is on YouTube for free right now. For those that don't remember, Charlie Sheen is Jamie/Jake/The Wraith. After being killed by a gang of car thieves he returns to life, now dressed like the love child of Seven of Nine and a Cylon, looking for vengeance and to rescue his girlfriend, driving a car that looks like KITT if he was designed by Pops Racer. This is a very cheesy, very goofy movie. Basically everybody in it played their parts about as over-the-top as they could, except for Sheen who looked like he was sleepwalking through most of it. It also had a cool soundtrack and a surprising amount of naked boobies for a PG rated movie. It's fun over-all, but it's the kind of flick that you enjoy best when you accidentally stumble across it on basic cable at 1AM.

Note: In past threads like this, I have noted that if I watch a movie multiple times within the year, then I will mark it as a Repeated Viewing. This next example will be no exception. Although I wonder if it should count for various cuts of the films, unless it's something like Justice League where you have the theatrical cut and the Snyder cut, both of which feel like different films.
Repeated viewing: The 355 - Watched it on Blu Ray.
I bought this on Blu Ray recently. I suppose I liked it enough to own it. I did enjoy it when I watched it in theaters. Here is my review from last February after seeing it for the first time:
Now that I have watched it again, I maintain the same sentiment, although I think I might have enjoyed it more. It's crazy, because around the time it came out back in January, a lot of people were bashing it. Some people online went out of their way to say that they won't see it and all that stuff. Then when it finally came to Peacock, as well as on video, the movie was appreciated more than what the reviews gave it credit for. I still feel like the leading ladies had good chemistry, especially Jessica Chastain and Diane Kruger. You also feel like they genuinely got along with one another. I will note that when I rewound some scenes, it was clear that Bingbing Fan was superimposed with green screen. I had heard that a lot of her scenes were shot in China, but if any of the scenes with her and the rest of the cast if she was actually there. Some I could tell she wasn't actually there with them, though.
I feel like this was one of the more underrated films that I have seen all year. I don't think it deserved the hate that it got.

58. The Heavenly Kid (1985)So I continue my exploration of 80's hallucination theater with this movie. For those that don't know, a 60's greaser dies in a car wreck, and returns to Earth in the 80's to act as a guardian angel/mentor to his socially awkward teenage son. And yeah, the dates don't add up in the slightest. This wasn't good. The characters ranged from unlikable to uninteresting, the story moved at a snails pace and the moral seems to be "smoking is cool". Just a boring movie.

I feel like she disappeared and I forgot how good Jennifer Lawrence is. This is strangely the first time I've seen this and it's pretty fantastic, with Lawrence giving a phenomenal performance that, for me, is only second to her work in Silver Linings Playbook. [****]

54. Senior Year
A high school senior has an accident that puts her into a coma, wakes up twenty years later, and tries to pickup her life right where it left off. It was watchable and got me to laugh out loud a couple of times. My biggest problem is that I find Rebel Wilson annoying and unlikeable in most everything she does (and this movie is no exception).
